Report of the Smith offer came from AZ a couple days ago: http://www.buffscoop.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11184

Physical back who was committed to Texas A&M before getting dropped over some legal troubles. Tough background and needs to get away from there.

Here's the Scout review of him (linked in profile):

He is a slashing type of runner, who can cut in to the hole really hard and break to daylight. He runs a lot out of the 'pistol' set in high school, so it will be interesting to see how his running style will translate once he gets things going more downhill in college. I think his game will translate well. He does not have elite top end speed, but he s not getting chased down from behind by the players on film. Physical specimen.

Definitely will need to learn to lower at the next level, but I think he shows good quickness and some nice cuts in that video.

Not that I necessarily think it would happen, but he also seems to have the nastiness that could translate well to the other side of the field at LB.

Reminded me a little of Eddie George. Kind of upright running style and a total hammer that wears down a defense.

I can definitely see that. Another name that comes to mind is pre-injury Marcus Houston. I had to watch the highlight vid a second time because I just love watching this kid run the football. REALLY hope he's a Buff.

Ya know, if it's petty theft and he's taking care of his court requirements on schedule, I don't have a problem with him being a Buff. Way different than the kid Squawk was recruiting who was an accessory to the rape of his own cousin.

I'd rather he wasn't stealing **** from his teammates.. He just doesn't impress me enough to overlook criminal stuff. He's good, but not good enough to put up with the headaches that will probably come with it.

As long as he has learn't his lesson, he should be given a second chance. But should be told he is on a short leash.

Interesting tweet just now from one of the big college football writers at Fox and Scout:

Dennis Smith is feeling Colorado.

I wonder if we would bring him in as a Fullback? That would kick ass.

he's a little small for a FB and I am not sure his frame is the type that could add the bulk necessary... but who knows?

His film doesn't look all the impressive in my opinion. Should be a downhill runner but I see lots of missed tackles running to the outside. I'd take him but he is a bit raw.

So he committed and de-committed from the tellar machine twice? I bet the gAggie faithful are lovin' this.

It went more like this: Committed to Texas A&M. Had off field disciplinary issues, so aTm dropped him. He got his life together and returned to the Wimberly team. In the mean time, Aggies filled up on RB commits. Tried to re-commit to aTm, but they wouldn't accept him. Opened up his recruiting with CU as his leader.

Thanx Nik. Still kinda confusing, tho. If the Buffs take him, do you see him staying at RB, or transitioning to another position?

I think our interest may be contingent on whether Payne makes a solid commitment. That is, if Smith projects at RB with this staff rather than FB or ATH. I'm just spitballin' here, though. I have no inside info on the level of CU interest.

I'm still holding out hope that we can get Wes Brown in here on an official. I think if we can get him to Boulder with his already stated knowledge off and respect for EB we have a decent chance of getting him (not favorite but also nothing like a long shot.) If we get Brown then a bunch of guys are going to have to consider what will be their best move.

On the other hand how long has it been since we have had an excess of talent at any position. It would be a nice feeling to get back to the point where multiple quality players hit the field looking for limited spots, with some realizing that their best way to get on the field would be a position switch.

I hope that our staff would take Smith and Payne if possible, nothing wrong with quality depth and Smith may end up at FB or LB anyways. Rivals lists him as a FB and 247 Sports as an ATH.
