It is not much of a change from the list Adam put out some months ago, but still worthwhile to look at nonetheless.

I think it is a solid list, although I would put Norgard 5th instead of 7th. Man, it is going to be disappointing if that board holds up come February though. Every one of the top six going out of state? Yikes

Here is to hoping we can flip a couple guys over next several months.

I am guessing Donatell is waiting on an offer from us. Why else wouldn't he commit to Nebraska? I'm hoping we can flip one of the lineman and Baylis. That would save face for this year. Or we can keep recruiting Texas well. I will take that also.

The one on the list that is most likely to flip, and that I want for the Buffs is Callahan. Thurston would be great to get but he fits the profile of a bugeater. Miles would be a good get but I'd rather have Dillon and we aren't getting both. O'Connor was never really in our sights, Kozan is a meh for me. Baylis is hard to figure out, we could use him and he'd be a great fit but Oregon has a name going right now and are going to get some kids who should know better. I think the staff is on Davis but not a max priority, we'll see.

If it stays like it is but we do well out of state I'm okay with it. If Norgard has the drive and the heart that I think he does he could turn out to be really special. Hennington is a bit of a rarity in that he is an athlete at DT, quick and with excellent balance.

Thurston, Callahan, O'Connor, Baylis - in that order - are guys I would dearly love to have here. We simply cannot afford to be losing out on guys like this. I understand that we're getting quality from California and Texas and I'm not discounting that for a second. However, if we want to be relevant long term, we're going to need the Colorado guys on this team.

I'd be happy with getting two of these four, but the problem is that they're all verbally comitted elsewhere at this point. That means we have a much bigger selling job to do.

It's been said before but is probably worth repeating: this is where the product on the field this season comes in. Right now those four (and others) have only words to go by and in all honesty after all the meaningless verbosity that came from the program the past five years I don't blame anybody for being skeptical. As instate kids, these guys are closer and therefore more affected by Hawkins' stink. Just my guess but they could care less that the current staff is telling them that the program is heading in a different direction. They wanna see it.

And for what it's worth, I don't think that necessarily translates as wins right away. Just some sense that CU football isn't wandering lost in the wilderness anymore.

The whole "we are doing fine in TX and CA" does not hold much water when talking about whiffing on the in-staters because we are talking about mostly OL, along with a TE. We're not exactly in great shape at either of those positions.

^^This^^

These are the kids who have spent the last five years hearing about one CU failure after another. The most important thing this staff can do this year, even more important than this recruiting class, is to create a sense that CU is a competent major college football team with a futue and is worth commiting to.

With five years of Hawkins and the last two years of Barnett with the so called scandal, it means that these kids were 10 years old the last time they really heard much positive about CU.

That all said, I think that the staff can turn at least a couple of these guys if (when) this team hits the field this year and looks like a competent, organized team that is going the right direction.

It's really as simple as this: for in-state kids, CU stopped being cool about the time they started caring about being cool.

That can change quickly, though.
