We lost a lot of talent and experience on the o-line, Stewart is gone, Hansen is gone, Clemons is gone, and Deehan is gone. We might struggle quite a bit on the offensive side of the ball. I am thinking that Embree HAS to be successful this year, and one again the schedule ****s us over. If he doesn't win at least 7 and go to a bowl game, he might be looking at 2 or 3 losing season before he can finally turn it around.

Premature?, I'm worried about what will happen when Dillon graduates.....

We've got a lot of great kids on this team and with all due respect to our senior class, it's not like these guys were leading 10 win teams. The more kids our new coaches bring in to fit their system, the better off we are IMO. Doesn't mean we don't have some studs in Tyler, Ryan Miller, Speedy, etc, but I am actually looking forward to some turnover in the next couple years.

i think we'll be just fine in 2012. we got alex wood and a couple other good TEs to rely on. we don't have solid depth at DE, even so we'll be able to find someone in the JUCO ranks or just slide someone like nobriga into the slot. color me excited.

Certainly concered. PAC-12 schedules are brutal. A small part of me wishes we scheduled next year's our out of conference games like a Big 10 team. 4 gauranteed wins against FCS and MAC teams.

next year is gonna hurt, Even if this year turns out awesome.

If Embree and the coaching staff can create and foster a winning culture, it will take the sting out of the rebuilding process.

The players and fans need to believe that the Buffs have a chance to win every game, something that was hard to do during last 2-3 years of DII's tenure

if we win "at least 7" with this schedule Embree should get COY consideration. at least in conference.

i think we flirt with .500/6 wins total (and maybe get there) the next two years and anything more is gravy. this is not about "diminished expectations" it's just an attempt to be objective. we lose a lot on O, Miller not mentioned above, but i think the base of the program will be stronger in 2012.

what we need this year is a demonstration that the Buffs play hard, don't beat themselves, disciplined on special teams, beat teams with equal or less talent, schemes and playcalling on both sides of the ball are sound, are in most every game in the 4th Q (within 10 points when the 4 Q starts)....and (most important to me)....get better as the season rolls on. a big 07 OU type upset would be great (one that actually turns into something).....but, i'll take wins over Cal, Wazzou, and UA at home as necessary for any talk of bowl eligible--sort of like last season's Tech-BU catastrophe.

contrary to most, i'm not going to freak if we lose to Hawaii. but, i do think we must be 2-2 minimum when conference play starts. i think we'll score enough to stay in most games and be dangerous to some people....

Winning breeds winning just like losing has.

If we win in 2011, it becomes a lot easier in 2012.

What will need to happen will be for a young 2011 defense to step up in 2012 and lead the team.

On offense, we'll return our center and both tackles from the OL (Munyer, Bakhtiari, Harris). That's pretty solid. We'll also return an all-conference level WR in Richardson.

If we see some of the freshmen WRs and RBs step up this year along with Thornton breaking out, then we'll be in pretty good shape except for the unknown at QB. It's going to be a young offense that will be unlikely to carry the team any week, but it could be an effective one that does enough to win more than we lose.

It's all predicated on having experienced defense and special teams in 2012, though, that can win those phases of football games week in and week out. Our offense probably won't be any better than a wash against decent competition.

+1.

No, there is too much to be worried about this year! The number 1 toughest schedule, 13 games without a bye, lack of depth, brand new coaches. I agree with Mick, any more than 6 wins would be a huge achievement. Must stay healthy.

I hope that's a very small part. Win or lose I want us to schedule the best teams OOC to play against - always. It builds character, and is very entertaining. I HATE playing cupcakes.

But Greg, you do know about this, right?

Going into Spring 2012, I will be interested in seeing who the QB will be. Depth on the O-Line should be fine, so long as we don't have a ton of injuries. It's 2013 that concerns me with the O-Line. We have some solid WRs coming in, and PRich will be a junior in 2012. I think offensively, we should be pretty good so long as we can settle on a QB early and get him adequate reps through the spring and summer camps leading into the season.

As far as players go, I'm not going to let myself start thinking about next year until after this year's fall camp. I'm hopeful that some individuals will show flashes and give us some idea of what to expect in the future. Also, next year won't be quite as bad schedule-wise. We'll actually get a bye week and we won't be playing at Ohio State. The conference schedule will be a mirror of this year with the home/away flip-flopping. So it will look something like this

1. CSU @ Invesco
2. TBA
3. @Fresno State
4. @Oregon
5. Washington
6. Stanford
7. @Wazzu
8. UCLA
9. ASU
10. @UA
11. @USC
12. Utah

To conclude, I'm optimistic about the future. I think we have the coaching we've been needing for a long time and we're working on getting the talent. Also, I'll be leaving Boulder after next year to move all the way across the country so it's basically inevitable that that will be the time we get it together.

If we can get a couple of the incoming freshmen WRs to be ready to have increased roles as sophomores, we will be all right on offense (not great).

My biggest question going forward is whether we can get BCS-level speed/athleticism on to field on the defensive side of the ball.

Hell no! Worrying about next year is as worthless as worrying the next debt ceiling vote after this one.

We also need to consider what other programs on the Buffs' 2012 schedule are facing as well in regard to reloading/rebuilding are concerned. Not sure what the depth charts are like for the other opponents (that's what you freakish Buff/Pac 12 recruiting degenerates are for), but I think there is more of a "level playing field" as far as recruiting goes after this year. With a year in the rear view mirror and hopefully an attractive credible football program philosophy to build upon, competing to fill position depth chart gaps with quality student athletes that could potentially contribute right away (ala Kentucky BB :)) may be what's in store for most of the pac 12 teams and hopefully CU will be in a position to persuade players like that to keep from going to UofA, ASU and the like. Additionally, the schedule next year will critically dictate CU's immediate future success I believe.

We'll have some new household names to replace the ones we've come to love. I expect a young team that might not be incredibly consistent next year, but will have some flashes of excellence showing us what to look forward to in Embree year three!

What do you think, PAC 12 championship comes in three years or four?

It appears to me that someone (presumably Larry Scott) has made it clear that for the benefit of the new media deal and Pac-12 Network starting next year, the template for all the Pac-12 teams is to schedule 1 marquee OOC game, one decent one, and a patsy (for BCS purposes).

So I'm guessing scheduling like the SEC/Big-10 is not an option.

This is the thing that happens when a program struggles and then makes a coaching change. It'll turn around with good recruiting which will turn around if CU shows improvement and if the coaching staff makes connections in the right places. Yep. Its going to take time. Our best hope is that this coaching staff's smack 'em in the mouth/ass busting philosophy ends up creating a team that over achieves. It'll be really interesting to see if these kids show big improvement this year. The staff needs to be able to go to recruits and say, "See, this team was awful last year. But we turned them into something special."

I think we have a decent shot at starting out 3 and 1 and then we have to win games against Wash St., UCLA, & Washington. That will give us a decent shot at a bowl game.
I think our D should be in OK shape for next year on the line with Kasa, Juda, Nembot, and our LB corps should be OK. I have concerns about the speed and athleticism of the secondary but hopefully we can recruit more of that within the season this year and during next years class.
I feel the offense should be fine as long as we play the smash mouth style offense we are expecting. We have a good core of OL and a stable of RB's.
QB play is going to be interesting. Will Dillon, Hirsh or Dorman win the job and will they be able to sell the play action and make the correct decisions down the field when teams put 8 men in the box. That will determine the success of the team next year.

TBA on that schedule has got to be an Idaho/Utah State or FCS team. We can't keep this brutal scheduling up as we try to rebuild - why not give ourselves a shot at being bowl eligible with 3 or 4 conference wins just like literally everybody else? Let's stop playing Hawaii's/Fresno State's on the road, the timing couldn't be worse..

There was an article in the Daily Camera about a week ago saying that the TBA will in fact be a lower level FBS team or even an FCS team.
