Caruso and Andre Roberson were AAU teammates. Here's a picture of their team in Boulder last spring:

ESPN named him one of the breakout players from the June NBA camp:

A virtual unknown until now, Caruso is a SG with a deceptive athletic ability and instincts for the game on both ends of the floor. With his vision and passing ability, he makes the assist or keeps the ball moving to help an offense stay fluid. Without the ball in his hands, he understands spacing and will play off his teammates to free himself. He is comfortable and confident with his long range shooting and can put a streak of points together by taking advantage of defensive mistakes. Defensively, his anticipation off the ball is quick and he doesn't gamble but gets his share of good steals.

Gotta love this from his ESPN recap:

The slender wing-type can play all three perimeter positions due to his passing, explosiveness, and willingness to make big plays. He handles the ball well in the open court and his vision is terrific. He advances the ball well in transition and is a pin-point passer.

Man, put this kid next to Gordon and Scott and this year's class could be HUGE! Regardless of who got that 4 scholly, I'd think there's a pretty good shot CU's class would be 2nd only to Arizona in the PAC-12.

1) UCLA...IF (big IF, because I think he's sort of wide open) they land Shabazz Muhammed to their class, they're one of the best in the nation.

2) I like Scott's summer, and I'm intrigued by Gordon's upside. We definitely could use a quality perimeter player in this class.

3) It's sort of sad that the PAC 12 isn't having that great of a year recruiting...it's been that way for awhile in my opinion, and the entire conference really needs to step it up as a whole in terms of recruiting.

I'd agree on all three points. It doesn't look like CU will have a 5-star in this class, so I'm sure a class with Muhammed would be rated higher. Otherwise, a class with Caruso should be as good as anybody in the conference, with the exception of Arizona. That would really set them up well over the next few years and hopefully go a long ways toward establishing CU as a legitimate BBall school.

What's the latest on Muhammaed? I know UCLA and Arizona are considered two of the favorites to land him, and it appears that half of the Pac-12 is on his interest list.

He's wide open...Telep said that UCLA leads heading into the summer some months ago over Duke and Memphis. I think it'll come down to UCLA, Kentucky, KU or Duke. Arizona, Texas, Memphis, UNLV, etc are also making pushes to get him. He likes an up-tempo game though, so UCLA may not seem so attractive once he starts evaluating offenses...who knows though. In my opinion, he's the top player in his class - he'll go wherever he feels like going for whatever reason...it'll only be a year (pending CBA).

Everything I read is that he's #1 and one and done. Here's hoping he goes to Duke.

Yeah, Rivals and Scout have him as #1, but I have to agree with ESPN that Andre Drummond is a legit threat for that top spot. I still think Bazz is the top player, but Drummond has some serious game. I of course hope he goes to Duke, but at the same time, they have bigger needs.

For what it's worth, Telep now says UCLA, UNLV and Duke are his top three - he'll take all five visits. I'd actually love it if UCLA ended up with Bazz - Pac12 needs talent, even if it's for one year only. UCLA's class already is looking nice.

...and now back to the CU recruitment. So...Caruso is good huh?

There's some 5* guard that aTm is supposed to land and supposedly it's why they're slow playing Caruso. If the other guy commits, they won't take Caruso.

A&M may get a really good class. They have JMychal Reese (from TX) and he may be friends with Marcus Smart, who's from Dallas. Smart has a lot of offers, and KU is in the hunt. If I were A&M, I wouldn't be so confident in Smart committing to them...but I don't really follow A&M too much - who knows...

We're getting an Official Visit.

This would be a HUGE pickup for us. I love these types of players. And it would also make 3 commits for the 2012 class ranked in the Top 100 at a reputable service, with Caruso being the cream of the crop so far.

Nice scoop buffnik & Goose you were way out in front on this one, just like Payne.

Now in ESPN's Top 100 at #86. He also went from #20 at SG to #13.

SCOOOP! Fact.

Based on recruiting futures, I kind of hope we don't get this kid. First reason, we only have 5 scholarship openings for 2012 + 13, unless we send some to the nba, which the only one who may have that potential to be gone by that time is Roberson after his junior year (I don't see Scott being a one and done and im sure not many others do either). But assuming Roberson stays through his senior year, which i believe he most likely will, we only have 5 spots. Considering our depth and recruiting possibilities at SG, I dont see him as a good get for us. we already have a large amount of gaurds on the team, and we we only loose 2 after 2011. we also loose 2 of our 3 forwards, leaving only damiene cain. so i personally think we need to bring in another forward, possibly zena edosomwan to put with scott and gordon and if we experience some kind of super miracle, although its highly unlikely, we could really push to get danuel house if we have a good year. Second reason is that the class of 2013 has some serious talent at the SG position, and were a team well on the radar of 4 of the top 10 SG. if we do take caruso and one other this year, that will send us into 2013 with 1 scholarship and a serious need at forward, forcing us to pass on all of the SG talent.

Basic summary, we really need another forward, so i say we take Zena and, if possible, Danuel, and then go for a SG in 2013
