The story of the day was definitely the kicker battle. More on that later.

QB's: Hansen to Richardson. We'll be hearing a lot of that this year. Didn't see Hirschman on the 11 ons or around the players. Not sure if he was injured or what. Burnette took all the reps at 2nd team. There are quite a few issues with center/QB exchange (fumbles, tripping).
RB's: Speedy took at least 2 long untouched runs for TD's on scrimmages. Far and away our best RB. He really swings the ball around while running tho and he fumbled. Bieniemy was not happy and the entire O had to do push ups. Lockridge and Jones usually go down for a short gain or loss
WR's: Richardson is untouchable. Good hands and he is a burner. No one can catch or cover him on the team. When Hansen threw to him during scrimmages it nearly always went for a TD. Toney is an interesting guy. Lots of trash talk involving him, "not wanting to go over the middle." Still looks good and he caught a curl and deeked Vigo out of his shoes for a TD. I think Espy could be either be #3 WR or 4. Gray dropped an easy pass but was wildcat QB and fumbled. McCulloch still pushing for PT, he made a nice catch along the sideline and almost took out some spectators.
TE: Didn't notice as much here today. More passes to WR's and runs. For those questioning Cordary Allen's size, he is barely shorter than Thornton so TIFWIW.
OL: Still getting pushed around by the DL. Usually the run would go for a loss or a TD, with more on the former.
DL: Pretty happy with DL play. Pericak and Bonsu made some nice TFL's in 9 on 7 drills. Obi and Cunningham running with the one's. Juda was 2ns team DE again. He doesn't appear to be overly fast or strong but he has a motor, I think he could eventually move to DT. Tui is still working extra with Richter calling some of the drills the ER drills (his initials). Nembot will redshirt imo
LB's: One of our better units imo. Webb makes plays but he really heard it from Brookhart during punt protection drills. We are still missing that OLB/DE combo guy.
CB's: Vigo and Sandersfeld with the 1's. Vigo seems fast and physical. Ideally Sandersfeld would make a better nickelback tho imo. Deji and Hawkins with the 2's and Henderson still getting reps in there. Still no Sherrard sighting
S: Polk is probably the fastest guy on the entire D. Perkins and Terrel line up at the LOS a lot. I think we'll see a lot more blitzes this year. No more 3 guys on the LOS. Harlos looks pretty good actually, he is fast but not that physical yet. Jaffee running with the 2nd team Safety's was interesting. The last couple years of DB recruiting was pretty bad (minus this last one)
K: The battle of the day. Embree was personally watching over the Kickers. Castor was with the 1's initially. But, then Embree was getting on them for "no consistency." So he personally watched and made Castor kick from 30 yards out. He had to make 10 of 10, if he missed one he had to start over. It took Castor over 30 kicks and I don't think he got the 10 consecutive makes. Oliver lined up and made 9 in a row. Embree called the entire team to watch. Oliver lined up and made it for 10 in a row. The coaches and players were pretty psyched. Later on during the scrimmages Embree would randomly call for a FG. Oliver would be the one to take it and I think he made 3 for 3 at an average of about 40 yards. Castor lined up for the FG once but Embree kicked him out saying he,"wasn't the 1st team kicker." We'll see if this holds up as it's been a pretty back and forth battle all camp.
P: Grossnickel, O'Neill, Brundage in that order imo but no one was particularly good here today. Surprisingly they were doing some rugby punts

Of the true frosh on O I think McCulloch might actually be the only one to play (D.D. looks to get some time on ST's). Spruce looks ready but there are some guys ahead of him. On D, Daigh, Henderson, Harlos, and Juda play with the 2's so I think we'll burn their redshirts.

Lots of time today was dedicated to the scrimmage. Embree will come up with "situations" like 3rd and 1 or punting from the end zone with 12 seconds left etc. When the offense ran, I'd say the advantage went to the D unless Speedy broke off for a long TD. When the O passed the O won nearly every time. I believe the offense went 3 for 3 on 3rd and short situations. Two being passes one being a run. These players really get into the situations. There's a lot of jawing back and forth between the Offense and Defense and even the coaches. Overall, the Offense definitely won today and the D had to do push ups. I'll post more if I remember and GO Buffs

* the offense had to do updowns, not the D. but good report. as for punters... i wonder why they are using the rugby style punt.. i thought i heard embo wasnt a fan of them.. vigo and tony were goin at it. lots of trash talk..

Thanks Slider!

Frank - 9 on 7 drops 4 DBs and 2 WRs, so its the 7 D in the box vs. OL, TE, QB, FB, TB.

Up downs... didn't know what they were called. LOTS of trash talk with Toney

If it's the way we did it - 9 Offense (center, 2xguard, 2xtackle, 1 TE, QB, FB, TB) and 7 Defense (3xDL, 4XLB)

7 on 9 has the Oline (2 tackles, 2 guards, 1 center) QB RB FB TE for 9

Dline (4) and LB (3) for a total of 7

Essentially there is a hat on a hat. Once blocker for each defensive player and a running back with the ball. Usually the width of the field is limited so it is between the tackles style of running. This is what makes it such a physical drill. As a defender you know they are gonna run the ball, but you will deffinately have at least one if not two people blocking you, so you have to defeat your blocker to make the tackle. On offense you have limited space and limited options so you really have to win your blocking assignment or it will be quite obvious that you ****ed up.

I second slades question about the center exchange.

also aviator ya beat me too it.

Ahh- thank you. I understand completely now. That does sound like a very good drill for working on the running game - as well as the front 7 defense.

Back-ups I think. There are 4 center's and 5 QB's getting reps so once we find our one C I think the problems will be eliminated.

Edit: Forgot to add still no Orms but he was walking around a lot more than previous days

 Fishhead

I did see that beltway and I thought it was a good answer however after your post someone asked if you drop the center. So I felt the need to clairify with ol positions as did aviator. Did not mean to bum you out. If you want I will make Tini's mom scream your name tonight.

Not much too add the rugby punts were stupid nobody did too well with them.
Love how physical it gets between the offense and defense i looks like a rivalry game out there lots of **** talking.
Seems as if the punters are gonna get a similar situation that the kickers got today at any random time.

also: Cj was there today and I was rocking my Chauncey Billups jersey, he came up to me and was all "Damn goin old school with Billups" I replied with "Yep second best buff to wear number 4" and he got all stoked and did one of those high pitched black guy laughs. It was hilarious.

Question for those watching practice:

How are the DE’s looking against the OT’s? Since we are running a 4-3, which are the starting ends right now? There are a good number of updates on the DT’s, but I am interested to see how the ends are doing in terms of stopping the run and getting pressure on the QB.

In photo’s Kasa looks like he is down to about 255 lbs even though he is listed as 270 on the roster. Is he starting DE right now, and does he appear faster? I thought HaLk was wasting him as a DT.

Also, to hear Harrington is doing so well at FB is great, but it really pisses me off that he didn’t red shirt last year (7 total plays for a season).

The miss-deeds of the prior coaching staff still get me upset.

Great reporting! I'm trying to take in a practice in the new few days. Is there an up to date roster or depth chart that has all the players numbers on it? The best I found is at cubuffs.com and it is dated April, 2011.

You are very very very close to an up to date roster. Depth chart changes daily I am sure, but they haven't released one in a while.

Red flag for me that our D can't stop the pass. We are going into a pass happy league.

I sort of like it that this team has some swagger. I would like to see a little bit of thug from the Buffs. Not the "U" of Miami type thug, but the same type of kids who weren't afraid to mix it up with Miami when the U came into Folsom back in 1993.

The Buffs have been a little too choir boy lately.

and they all have two parents that provided them juice boxes at their beckon call

There are three big red flags for me right now.

First is that PRich is running happily over the defense. I love PRich but I think there are many WR in the Pac 12 who are as capable.
Second is that the defense sounds prone to big plays. I keep reading about Speedy ripping off a huge run.
Lastly is the reports that the DL is pushing the OL around.

These really worry me because they seem to be a continuation of the problems from previous seasons... That makes me scared.

Chidera and Hartigan i believe have been getting reps with the 1s. both quick have good foot work. chidera is getting a lot better. and hartigan had a great season last year.
Juda, and nembot are still raw, but nembot got into the back field a couple of times and changed the play, and juda has a lot of potential.
