Sounds like Danny Sheridan (USA Today) is ready to name some names in the Cam Newton saga.

Who woulda thunk that a booster giving a recruit's dad a six figure payout is against the rules?

Probably just a secondary violation. Not the type of thing that should cause scholarship losses. We're not talking waffles and syrup here, folks.

Everyone including the NCAA admits that Cam Newton's daddy got paid $180,000 for services. The NCAA didn't do anything about it when they could have made a statement.

I will believe anything happens with this when it happens.

Yeah, I thought they basically sanctioned the payment when they let him play for the MNC.

While the NCAA has not looked good, they have made no such admission.

Yeah Ive never heard the admission either. However, If I said I didnt think he took anything, Id be lying.

I think the NCAA determined that Cecil requested money, but could not show that any money exchanged hands. They also determined that Cam knew nothing about this.

I think they determined wrong, Cam knew. I dont see how he couldnt considering he is supposed to be close to his dad, Ive at least heard that anyway.

I agree with you, but this is how the NCAA justified allowing Cam to play in the national championship game. If further evidence comes out that can connect him to his dad's efforts, or that shows that money did in fact change hands, then you'll be looking at some penalties.

I can say this for Auburn, they sure as hell cheat better than "Gangsta U". If money did get exchanged, at least they were smart enough to make it tough to track.

Regardless, I don't have any issues with Cam on this. If my dad's business was in foreclosure and someone would get him out of it by me picking one year of playing college football at one program versus another, you can bet your ass I'd take the money for my family.

I don't get why people think the NCAA will take it easy on Auburn. They went after USC for a lot less. They went after tOSU for a lot less.

You can't punish Auburn because Cam's daddy asked for money.
They got to prove that someone gave him money. They also have to be able to prove as much other ish as they can find, before they go public.
This is the evidence gathering stage folks.

I wonder if they are even done with Ohio St. yet? I just saw on Espin that Pryor admitted more violations to lawyers or something. They were talking about the supplemental draft.

I just saw that too. And it was cash this time not tattoos.

Yeah, you're supposed to use a bagman. Never leave a paper trail.

I don't know if you guys have been following the Whoregon scandal, but that's a big reason I think they're going down too. Signed payment of $25K from UO to Willie Lyles right after he delivered Seastrunk on LOI day. Then 400+ late night calls/texts from Chip Kelly to Lyles, and a handwritten note from Kelly to Lyles: "Thank you for orchestrating everything. Love, Chip." (Ok I made up the last part, but you get the idea.)

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes the NCAA to wade through all of this crap in college football. It seems like every day there's more of it, with a new school and a new scandal. The stuff at the U is REALLY bad. Makes Cecil Newton pimping out his son look like child's play.

Makes you wonder if this is a fundamental flaw in the ncaa rules (can't punish a school if a family member receives something without the players knowledge) or was it intentionally written to be this way?

While the ncaa is reviewing all their superfluous rules, perhaps they can change this one as well. Any improper benefits given should be a violation, regardless whether or not the athlete has any knowledge of the dealings.
