I've been reading most of the Pac12 previews and most say this is going to be a tough team to beat. Nick Foles looks pretty impressive last season and he should be dangerous when he's tossing the ball to Juron Criner.

Foles led the Pac-10 with 290 yards passing per game. He ranked fourth in passing efficiency -- 34th in the nation -- completing 67 percent of his passes with with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Foles, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound senior, could play his way into the first round of this spring's NFL draft with a good season. He already has established himself as the best quarterback in Wildcats history, and he could re-write the team's passing record book this fall, particularly considering he's going to be leading a pass-first offense with a deep and talented crew of receivers. Yes, Foles' lofty rank here is a bit of a projection. Recall he was slightly demoted on our 2010 post-season ranking compared to his preseason ranking. But the Pac-12 blog likes Foles' skills and makeup (both now and in the NFL). Sure, he had a bad Alamo Bowl against Oklahoma State -- see three interceptions from a guy who never threw more than one pick in any other game. But he also led clutch fourth-quarter drives to beat both Iowa and California, and it appeared he had done the same to beat arch-rival Arizona State before Alex Zendejas' PAT was blocked with 27 seconds left in regulation. Further, Foles' numbers would have been better if he didn't suffer a dislocated knee cap that knocked him out of two games, and he showed plenty of toughness by returning quickly and surviving a consistent beating due to an underachieving offensive line. Sure, Arizona had a terrible slide, losing its final five games, but that clearly wasn't Foles fault. In the Wildcats final three regular season games, he threw nine touchdown passes with just one interception, while passing for 353, 448 and 262 yards.

Wow. The Wildcats lost all five starters from 2010.

Both No. 1 offensive tackles, Mickey Baucus and Fabbians Ebbele are redshirt freshmen. On the plus side for the future, no member of the offensive line 2-deep is a senior.http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/category/_/name/arizona-wildcats

Arizona camp report: Stoops pleased with progress of offensive line

The Arizona Wildcats are winding down fall camp, and coach Mike Stoops says he has seen improvement in the one area that is the team’s biggest question — the all-new starting offensive line.
“The first group especially,” Stoops said.

Arizona should be 2-7 when they face us. CU has only lost twice in the home finale when not playing Nebraska in the past 24 years. Cu is also 12-1 all time vs. Arizona

They are going to hit us where it hurts the place we think the most: our secondary. Might be a shootout like it was against KSU last year.

Think this game is probably going to be featuring two teams limping to the finish line. If the OL can hold up enough to keep Foles healthy, Zona is going to be tough.

For all Stoops has done, if they start 1-5 like many expect, they will have lost 10/11. I saw them on TV twice last year that I can recall, beating Iowa early in Tucson and losing 32-31 to ASU in a classic at the end of the year. I've got this as a W for the Buffs. Agree with many that UA digs itself a big hole early in the season and doesn't recover. I think things with Arizona are going to get heated pretty quickly, the 'Cats have a lot of asshole fans

I remember hearing the same from last season's Iowa-Zona game. Some YouTube vids got posted. I'll try to track them down.

i think this is one of the games we win. just a feeling. coming out of a brutal stretch, i think the Buffs bring it at home.

Let it be cold as **** when they come. I want that nasty double dose of homefield with altitude and cold for those zona softies.

[h=1]Lindy's 2012 Pac-12 Team Preview: Arizona Wildcats[/h]
PRIMARY STRENGTHS: Arizona boasts an NFL prospect at quarterback — the last UA quarterback to throw a pass in the NFL did so in 1973 — and perhaps its deepest group of receivers ever. Arizona is deep at defensive tackle and should be set at cornerback, especially if Wade bounces back. DE C.J. Parish was a pleasant surprise in the spring.

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS: The offensive line has a total of one career start, that from C Kyle Quinn in the Alamo Bowl. The Wildcats are a disaster waiting to happen at linebacker, with only two proven players — Vassallo and Earls. UA plays three of Lindy’s preseason Top 10 teams in succession early in the year — Oklahoma State, Stanford and Oregon.

Arizona starting cornerback Jonathan McKnight tears ACL, is out for season

Sophomore Jonathan McKnight, a starting cornerback and projected to be the team’s primary punt returner, suffered a torn ACL in Wednesday’s practice and is out for the season.

...

Sophomore Shaquille Richardson, who had been competing for a starting spot at cornerback and could have been the starting nickel back, will take over McKnight’s spot.
“Shaq definitely has to step up, and he’s capable of doing so,” said secondary coach Ryan Walters. “He’s a tremendous talent. A smart player. He just has to focus on the details and be competitive every play.”

[h=3]Opportunity knocks: Stoops gives eager 25-year-old a chance to coach secondary[/h] by Anthony Gimino

When Mike Stoops was hired to coach the Arizona Wildcats after the 2003 season, Ryan Walters was a senior quarterback. In high school.

Now, Walters is Stoops’ secondary coach.

It took a strange set of circumstances to make it happen, but Walters, at age 25, was officially announced Monday as Arizona’s new secondary coach after spending one season as a graduate assistant with the Cats.

“To be able to do this at the age I am is a humbling experience and very gratifying,” he said.

“It speaks a lot to Mike’s confidence in me. I don’t want to let him down, the fans down, the players down. I am working tirelessly to be the best defensive backs coach I can be.”

Walters will be the second youngest assistant coach in the Pac-12, trailing Utah’s first-year quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson, 24.
