How long do they have?

If the Buffs don't/can't ______________ by year ______ this coaching staff has not gotten the job done.

I'll start.

If the Buffs can't place in the top 5 of the Pac by year 5 this coaching staff has not gotten the job done.

play in a mid/top level bowl game consistantly/7

consistantly ranked in top 25/9

Just trying to measure how the fan base currently feels in order to see how it has changed, good or bad, 4-5 years from now.

dude - way to suck the fun out of the honeymoon period!

This reminds me of people who like to call the first game of any season, a "must win."

Let's just let it play out. I think 4-5 years is a reasonable time to evaluate a new staff. Get back to me then and I'll let you know if they've gotten the job done.

I want to see bowl games in years 3 and 4. I do not think Embree automatically should get five years because Hawkins did.

I'll give them 3 years, this schedule is brutal, we graduate a ton of guys this year but if in year three were arent headed in the right direction i'll have issues.

Let's revisit in 2 years. We have a lot of issues that won't be cleared up in that time frame, but I want to win and be competitive. I am not expecting 8 wins or anything like that but we better win some games. The ones we lose better not be embarrassing. As of now I really like this staff and believe they will turn it around, but I am sick of losing and my patience is running thin.

Five years. Any coach who takes over for a fired coach gets five years unless something obvious comes up (player discipline/academic problems, very substandard recruiting, NCAA issues.) Anything less is unfair to the coach and limits the options for the next coach.

4 year unless this staff pulls a KU-type or Montana St-type loss.

He'll get a least 4 because if we do then we don't have to buy out his contract. Might as well give him 5 it can't get any worse than the last regime and he's aready getting better players in.

I voted year 3 and by that I mean significant progress. Winning seasons and bowl games. We should be back to bowl games by then and if not, I will be concerned. This is not a Fairbanks situation that Mac walked into. I know we have been down, but there should be significant progress or I will be very concerned.

5 years, with an obvious climb each year. No coach anywhere should be given less. Anybody that says 3 is not being fair.

I need to see immediate change in the attitude of the team, but I think that has already been accomplished to a certain degree. A bowl game in year 3 is a reasonable expectation, IMO.

Two things would curb my enthusiasm.

1) On field embarrassment - wrong side of blow-outs, dumb penalties, poor coaching decisions, questionable personnel choices - like unnecessarily burning red shirts, changing positions mid course...

2) Off-field issues that are embarrassing; Run ins with the law, NCAA violations, poor academic performance & contentious relationships with the Dean/Regents

Absent problems in those areas, I'm not on a clock. These coaches are Buff family and have my support.

What's your expectation in year five? wins-losses, type of bowl, etc...

By year 5 I want them to show that we can be a consistent top 25 program, a Pac-12 south and conference contender and an occasional national title contender.

I would say by year 3 we need to be going to bowls and not getting blown out.

So you should have voted 3?

I think the first game of this year is a "must win." Now "must win" doesnt mean we fire the coaches if they lose, it means this:

1. I think we have decent chance at a surpisingly good season where we win at least six and perhaps even seven games.

2. To get to seven wins I think we need to beat perhaps five teams better than Hawaii.

3. If we can't beat Hawaii, the we arent likely to beat five teams better than Hawaii, and we aren't likely to get six or seven wins. Therefore, we most likely won't have what I would call a succesful season.

4. Therefore, WE MUST beat Hawaii.

I went with 4 but a bowl is a must after 3. With such a huge senior class, next year will be this staffs most challenging. By year 3 we need a bowl. Year 4 we need a bigger bowl. Year 5, we need to compete for a conference title. Might be wishful thinking but, if we can scratch out more wins than we are supposed to get, our recruiting could get very interesting.

This year will be tough due to schedule;' next year will be tough losing lots of seniors. While I expect to see lots of progress in terms of toughness, this is a long term re-building plan.
