I think you got it with the redshirts. I suspect that Goodson will see the field. It's a long season and he's got a ton of speed. He's potentially a playmaker who comes on as the season progresses. Harlos should see the field immediately as a special teams ace. I don't think he'll see that many reps on defense if players stay healthy, though.

Am I crazy thinking next year will not be nearly as bad as some think?

Big question marks on offense at QB, RB and TE. I like our 2012 WRs and OL a lot, though.

On defense, I think we get a lot better. The big things will be Bonsu stepping up at NT, an OLB replacing Hartigan's pass rush skills, and someone filling Perkins' shoes. I think it's there for us to be a really good defense, though.

Special teams will return everyone.

Schedule's much friendlier, too. We'll probably go as far as our QB takes us.

Great job as usual, Nik. Now, can you add the number of recruiting stars, original PWO, current scholarship status and class? :smile2: Then we can show the world that this roster proves that you can come to CU and earn a job, which I think is one thing this roster does admirably.

I count 78 unique names, but could be off a couple due to redundant jobs. Who stays home? And is 70 just for Hawaii or all road games?

No, I don't think so. There are a lot of underclassmen in the 2 and 3 deep, and with a brutal 13 consecutive game schedule, I kinda expect several of them to see some amount of time on the field. Don't you? That bodes well for next year (not too sure about this year, tho).

Nik hit on it pretty well -- next year we'll go as far as our QB takes us. That's the single biggest position loss from this year to next.

Yep those guys getting pt this year is huge. I expected alot of freshmen to play but Im not sure I expected this many. It's gonna be challenging because of the youth and we will be breaking in a first time starter at qb whoever that might be. More talent and speed we bring in, the easier the transition. We are getting off to a good start in that area. I think if we can win some games this year, at least more than folks think, we might be able to flip some guys or get some of the better players not committed yet. One question on Dillon. Is he gonna enroll early or is there any indication of that?

translation = cupboard bare

I dont think it is bare just not alot of depth in certain positions. With the way the last 5 years has went and how the last staff basically quit recruiting, it could be way way worse.

Indications are that he won't. In fact, with the calendar year for Cali schools it is likely that he could be a late show for summer 7ons. This makes me think it's unlikely that he'll start as a true frosh at the beginning of the year. If he does, it could be that there is zero confidence in our other QBs.

Love the LB foursome, having Hartigan-Webb-Rippy-Major on the field at the same time will be fun to see. Webb and Rippy seem like they can bring the violence, and if Hartigan can keep up his production that unit could be the saving grace on defense for us; but of course it will return to how well our D-line can fill their roles and with Obi stepping up and the conversion to a 3-man front we now have more depth and can rotate players in to keep them fresh and effective.

For 2012, Juda Parker should be ready to step into the Jack spot for Hartigan and the only other loss will be at NT with Obi, but I believe if healthy Bonsu will be better than him (with another year to develop).

Aside from the big hole at QB, next year there will be some PT that will be replaced at WR, TE, and FB. Asiata and Crabb look like they are being groomed to take over for Adkins and Miller at the guard spots but they should still have some competition from Ryan Dannewitz. I feel good about having Tony Jones, Josh Ford, and DD Goodson and other incoming players fill the void of Speedy's absence due to Bienemy's presence.

Agree 100% that the 2012 season will be "on the shoulders" of the next QB, even more so than most any other season usually is. This will be made even more difficult by having to replace the backfield (RB/FB), and a great portion of the receiving targets as well (Clemons, Cefalo, Espinoza, Gray at WR and Deehan and Bahr at TE).

I'm mainly concerned about next year because of our QB and TE positions. RB was a concern, but it seems we'll be fine with Jones/Ford/others. Defense will almost all return, only big hit there will be Perkins and maybe Obi. Still, the reports about Hirschman just don't give me a ton of confidence. I don't see any way Dillon starts as a true freshman unless we're really struggling and we put him in to get experience for 2013. He's skinny as hell and won't even be arriving on campus early.

If we end up with as strong a running game as we are hoping for, then maybe we can take a little pressure off Hirschman next year. The TE position is definitely a problem. I sure hope we somehow find a recruit or two this year that can play right away. I am also a little concerned that maybe PRich has a monster year (which would be great) and is gone before 2012.

PRich is a sophomore, cannot leave until after the 2013 season.

Not something to be concerned about. PRich is a true sophomore. Football players must be 3 years removed from high school in order to become members of the NFL Player's Association union, therefore he wouldn't be eligible to be drafted until after the 2012 season.

Awesome. I didn't know the NFL had such rules. So a player can go after sophomore year if they had redshirted one?

P.S. Then we are going to kick *** in 2012 just like 2011!

I would agree that QB and TE are the major question marks, along with depth on the OL (which could look different come February. We really need either Munyer or Handler to solidify the center position and then the other one can compete at the guard spots.

As TE goes, we need to get a true prototype TE in here and ready to play a lot next season. Juco targets will probably be looked at here.

Not a good sign regarding our TE recruiting. :wtf: is going on with that.

Looks like Irwin, hope of flipping one of the committed guys we are after, and ???.
hmmm. Long odds, especially since we haven't landed Irwin yet. And with Devaughn now #3 at TE... Not so sure about how good a # any of our TE are gonna put up. Should be interesting.
