CU, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State fans

Kirk Bohls of Austin Statesman (connected UT beatwriter) wrote last night that he thinks UT, OU, Tech and OSU to Pac-12 will be announced by October 1 of this year.

This means that CU, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State would get thrown into a Southwest Division with the 4 B12 South schools. As everyone here knows, this would be bad for CU.

As I understand, expansion in Pac-12 requires 9 yes votes. This means that CU, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State can block expansion -- or, at the least, ensure that expansion doesn't cripple their programs. We need to band together to fight the move to a SouthWest/PacWest division alignment and fight for, at the very least, a pod system with 3-2-2-2 scheduling. Still not ideal, but better than 2 straight divisions.

Can anyone with more message board time than I tell me if Utah/Arizona/Arizona State fans are on board with this? If so, I'd love to see more and more pressure by those schools fans on their administrators to make sure Larry Scott doesn't go straight divisions.
 
Have some faith that being in the Pac-12 East can still be a good thing for the Buffs.

My position is no Pac-16 without the pod scheduling. We need 11 conference games if we are to have straight scheduling.

As for the UU, UA, and ASU fans on the Pac12Board, I can tell you that their fans aren't in favor of the Pac-16 too. UA and ASU fans were actually scared for their football programs in the Pac-16 East and I have advised Utah fans that they will have no idea what they are in for if that happens since they haven't really been in a conference with foes like UT and OU. A Pac-16 would most likely cripple the UA, ASU, and UU programs but the CU program would be better equipped than the other three Mountain schools to compete in the Pac-16 East.

Remember, UA & ASU only had to deal with one elite powerhouse in USC, Utah doesn't have the exprience, but CU has had to deal with NU, OU, and UT for years. Advantage: CU.

CU can aim for both UT and OU like CU aimed for NU for many years and that is a very good thing to aim for.

We can still recruit California pretty well and by going against OU & UT, we do actually improve our TX recruiting which is a win-win for us.

I am completely against expanding that way. If we get out voted and are forced to bring in those 4, I'd at least like to see us split the conference non-geographically, the way the ACC and Big 10 did. Make sure each division has 2 legs in Cali, and 1 in Texas. I hope it doesn't come to that. Way to go aTm.

Don't count on the zipper solution to the divisions...it has not worked out very well in the ACC and will fail in the Big Ten. Geography is the way to go.
