Looked a lot better than what I saw over the past half decade.

Yeah we lost, but it was on the road in Hawaii... That kind of thing happens there.

D looked good, they make 3 more tackles on a slippery QB and we win hands down. It was nice to see the pressure they put on though. Very promising if they can build on that. It will lead to turnovers if they keep that up. Game should have been tied late with that pick6 and the whole thing would have changed. Can't miss those critical tackles either.

Overall this looked like a real football team. I didnt see any gimmicky stuff and that alone will lead to a couple wins this year.

They didnt show Embo during the kick but I doubt he turned his back when the frosh nailed his first kick.

Definetly something to build on here, but definetly something to work on for the staff too!

Oh, and if the old regime were still here, this thing could have turned into another Toledo easily. Instead we were a dropped pass away from a tie toward the end.

That a positive take considering we lost to a WAC team that lost 9 starters on offense.

We didn't tackle and we didn't block. The OL and QB play were the exact same caliber of the last 5 years. I'm well aware it takes time to break habits, but aside from finding ourselves a punter, there aren't many bright spots to take from this game

I agree. I thought the front seven wasn't that bad and was kind of surprised by our aggressiveness up front. The corner position is going to be a huge problem all year.

offense is a work in progress. EB needs to find a way to get the ball to prich more.

Though I think it should be noted that outside of the quarterback improvising, their offense didn't do much. As far as set plays were concerned, they didn't get a lot accomplished. It was just a complete failure of keeping the kid in check once he started to scramble around.

The corners were one of the bright spots IMO. The D gave the team a chance to win, the O just couldn't convert and gave Hawaii good field position all day.

[SUB]no it didnt...[/SUB]

D was a pleasant surprise except for contain in the first. O was the opposite. Hansen disappointed me badly today. He was legit awful, and it had nothing to do with his physical abilities

No but this team showed flashes, they just couldn't make the big play when needed and could never build momentum unlike Hawaii.

What flashes? Our offense was god awful for 3 quarters in a 4 quarter game. Defense looked alright, kicking game was good, return game was pretty ******. We still have the same problems we have had for a few years now. We make some plays, get some momentum, then promptly find ourselves in a 3rd and 28 situation. I'm sure you'll say Embree needs time because you seem to have that post ready to copy paste tonight, and I doubt anyone wants to fire Embree. I like Embree, I think he'll get it turned around eventually. How long that will take is beyond me, though. Our offense should not be getting rolled that badly by Hawaii. Embree doesn't want to make excuses, so why should you? I'm not giving up and I doubt many are, we're just realizing that our team isn't very good this year.

He played like a freshman. Stood around too long and his throws were way off. Where was the power running game with the fb?

Really? I think he's pretty limited physically. He doesn't have a big arm and isn't very accurate. He obviously had some mental breakdowns, but at this point he is what he is, an average QB at best. He's not very tall and seems to have trouble seeing the field from the pocket (when there is one) so that's another issue.

His arm is fine. He can make the throws. It's his composure that sucks. Throwing it 5 yards out of bounds, 10 yards behind a prich open by 5 yards, staring down receivers.... It was an epic choke job

I think that's just him, though. He has a massive accuracy consistency issue. Mentally I'd argue he has been ruined by ****** OL play for his entire tenure. I think he's essentially a David Carr at some points.

There were at least 3 plays where he made a great decision by throwing the ball away. Gotta give him credit for that.

There is a reason why it is called a flash. You must have blinked for the two TD tosses. That second one was about as nice a pass as can be made.
And the D stops, good pressure on Moniz throughout the night. Wasn't consistent, but there were flashes tonight.

Every team has "flashes". We've been on the wrong side of many ass-kickings recently, and the Cal game last year is the only one I can think of where we didn't show any "flashes"

The aggressiveness by the D was easily the brightest spot. Even the penalties they got weren't stupid like in previous years, they were born from being aggressive.

As for the corners, I thought Orms looked legit out there, especially for a 1st game.

composure is a big part of the game for a QB.

Henderson looked good as well.

A TD is considered a flash? So the fact that we were able to get in the endzone against a team from the WAC means that we're on the right track?

Oregon St. had four flashes in their loss to I-AA Sacramento St. today. They may not have won the game but hey they had some flashes, big things are gonna happen in Corvalis!
