Well considering we have 13 commits right now, we are, plus or minus a couple, about halfway done with our recruiting class.

So far we have:

1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
2 OL
2 DT
0 DE
1 LB
1 CB
0 S

We're apparently done at RB barring a blue chip commit like Wes Brown and we're most definitely done at QB unless BCS scares off Dillon. Other than that I think we have room for at least 1 more at any position.

RB/FB: Wes Brown is supposed to be our only target left at RB. I'll just include fullback here so we're looking to add 1-2 more at this position. Bafaro or Dennis Smith would be solid for FB I suppose, although we could always recruit a LB and move them to fullback.

WR: We're apparently high on Cameron Countryman and will take one more for sure. Beyond him, I'd guess Chris Harper and Alex Jackson are next on the list. Javon Williams is also high on our list, but he's no certainty. Perfect scenario is to get Javon Williams to give us some serious size at the WR position and get Countryman to add much needed speed.

TE: Sean Irwin looks solid and a solid blocker to boot. We need at least one more here, not really sure who that might be since our biggest targets are all committed elsewhere.

OL: I think we need 2 or 3 more here. Cyburt and Nick Davidson would be pretty awesome. OL recruiting has gone pretty badly this year, so I doubt we get both. Not sure who else the coaches are high on at this point.

DE: We have nobody so far here. I desperately wanted Kyle Kelley, and maybe Stoops can help us out by getting fired, but it's hard to count on that. Kisima Jagne apparently likes us somewhat and he looks like a player. I think we need at least 1 here, preferably 2 if we can get the numbers to work.

DT: I'd like to see us take another just because DT depth is so critical, but I'm not sure we'll have the room.

ILB: We already have Norgard here, and we only lose Mahnke, so it seems we aren't going all out recruiting linebackers this year. Seems Cabral is pretty high on Jake Schany and I think we'll get him.

OLB: Again, doesn't seem like we're going all out recruiting linebackers, but I think we take 1 OLB. I would die of happiness if we got Jared Afalava, but that's doubtful. Reshawn Hooker or Seth Jacobs are no slouches either.

CB: Erich Wilson is on board and we only lose Jonathan Hawkins. I think we have a serious lack of talent in the defensive backfield, but we have a lot of young people at corner. I think we take 1 more, I'm big on Will Jackson, but his grades suck so I'm betting we end up with Dominique Love or Jonavaughn Williams.

S: Nobody on board yet. Perkins is all we lose, so again, probably 1.. maybe two guys here. I'm personally a big fan of Chris Solomon and beyond that I'm not sure. Ryan Santos has some pretty good cover skills, we sure could use some of that around here. Moeakiola looked pretty good to me, big hitter. Plus I love the Polynesian attitude in football.

So to sum up:

1-2 more RB
1-2 more WR
1-2 more TE
2-3 OL
0 DT
1-2 DE
1 ILB
1 OLB
1 CB
1-2 S

I'm not really sure how many we will sign, seems some have said close to 30. I think we will have 26 scholarships available after this season so that's probably the low #, unless Wood isn't being counted there. Norgard is an early enrollee and Crowder might greyshirt. Other than that I hope we can find a couple more ready to come in early and maybe have some projects take a greyshirt.

Good post and makes sense.

We really lack big time talent across the board. Preference would be to balance positions but if it comes down to taking 1 or 2 extras at one position who can really play vs. taking guys at another positon who are marginal but fit the position I vote for taking quality over position. A lot of very good coaches have won a lot of games taking the best football players they could get then figuring out how to fit the pieces together. As long as we don't get Slick Rick disease (a class full of WRs and DBs with no linemen for 3 straight years) we should go for the best guys we can get.

We have a few big needs, but I still think we're in situation where we fill the last 10 spots with best available as long as it's not too lopsided.

I forgot to include a few questions at the end of it all.

If we get 13 more guys just like the first 13, is that good enough?

Is there anyone we absolutely must get?

What position do you see recruits maybe stepping in and getting a chance to start next year?

OL: I know for a fact that they are still going hard after Callahan. If AU goes down the ****#r this year we might have a chance at him.

They are well on their way. There's only three wins that I can really see with their schedule (Ole Miss, FAU, Samford).

Thanks for the info. I think he needs to see positives from CU along with some stuff that takes the luster off Auburn (NCAA sanctions and a last place SEC West finish).

The second half of the class needs to be better than the first half.

Wait so you're saying that the players we've got so far aren't going to get us a PAC-12 title? Someone not named Dan Hawkins recruted them so the've got to be amazing, right, at least that's my understanding from reading this board.

Just be careful BB, there is a faction of pussies I mean posters here who will tell you that you're not a real fan or that you're overreacting if you write anything that's critical.

BB doesn't have to worry. He's earned respect from the people here.

Ouch, well played. But anyways since you've labeled me as an "internet bully" before as Niccolo Machiavelli said, "It's better to be feared then respected."

JRK, were you by chance dropped on your head as a baby and had alcohol put in your bottle?

Back in Niccolo's day, there wasn't an ignore function.

The number of people that fear you is exactly equal to the number of people that respect you. Only Chuck Norris can divide by that number.

Sadly for you, you are neither feared or respected. Just pitied.

Isn't Sandersfeld a Senior?

Isn't Sandersfeld a Senior?

Sandersfeld is a senior. So is Perkins. Jaffee, too, if we're talking depth chart. Also, Pugh moved to offense and that impacted the depth chart. It's not unreasonable at all to take 4 DBs this year. In fact, considering our return/coverage teams it wouldn't be unreasonable to take more than 4 if 1 or 2 were athletes would would get a shot on offense and help in the return/coverage game.

I am very glad we are able to have the ability to discuss how many more kids we need to pick up. DH would have thought he was killing it with 3-5 kids at this point in the season.

At least even then we would be better than the lambies now who have one commit so far.

QB - Best we've had in a long time. Don't necessarily need another recruit this year or next.
RB - I could see them making room for either Brown or Smith.
WR - I think we're set until next year.
TE - One more would be perfect.
OL - Need. We'd better start loading up the pipeline. Especially need guys with size.
LB - We look to be okay next year, but would love to see Hooker added and we need to start building depth for the 3-4.
DB - Desperately need talent at safety. Pretty much SOP for OCs in the PAC to go after the other team's safeties with slot receivers and TE's until they prove they can stop it. That's what Mizzou did to us the last 5 yrs, and it's not going to stop until we get real safeties. Not sure who's really left out there. I thought Bradley was our best chance to get a quality commit, but he seems more interested in Stanford or Pitt now. The good ones always seem to get snapped up early. Need 2 safeties and probably another corner, but not sure we'll get them.
DL - Maybe one more for depth.

What I'm seeing so far with Embree's recruiting are a lot of athletes that can be developed and that our program can win with. It looks like we're hitting at a very high percentage with guys who will help the program.

However, where we need to step it up due to the lack of existing depth is that we need to bring in more blue chip guys who can come in and be 1st and 2nd year guys who can win against 4th and 5th year Pac-12 players. We are not winning enough recruiting battles for those types of players. As it stands, unless Connor Wood is a game changer at quarterback, we're looking at 3 years before we're challenging in the conference based on relative talent levels.

Based on what we saw this weekend and the fact that we are not going to get enough of the players this year who can win against 4th and 5th year players, we are looking at year 3 to be in a place to challenge in the Pac. While I like to drink Koolaide with the best of them, this is what I have realistically been looking at as a best case for our Buffs.

Don't really agree on QB. We need a good one next year, but we definitely don't need another one this year. We could live without one next year I suppose, but I just think we should take one every single year because a lot of them burn out or transfer.

WR: I agree with you that we could do without 4 WRs this year, but I'm just going off of what AZ has reported at buffscoop that the coaches want another WR.

DB: Totally agree with you, safety lacks talent. We seem to have a lot of guys that aren't good enough for corner, but aren't really safeties either. We need play-making big hitters back there. Plus our depth is pretty weak. Harlos is probably a linebacker in the future, so we pretty much have Kyle Washington and Terrell Smith behind Polk and Perkins.

DL: I think we need 2 more, especially at DE. Also, Nembot was moved to OL so we definitely need some DEs this year.

Not a bad breakdown and likely not far off. That said this team needs athletes, period. It would be nice to balance the class positionally but looking at the level of athlete we have on the field and backing up across the roster we are going to be in trouble in the PAC12 (and may have a hard time matching up to some MWC teams on pure athletic ability. Even with a surplus at positions like WR so far if we get a shot at a superior athlete we almost have no choice in taking him regardless of position.

A lot of very good coaches have won a lot of games with the attitude of give me a bunch of better athletes than my opponents and I will figure out what to do with them. You may end up with DBs who came here as WRs or QBs, TE's who started as LBs (or vice versa) and big guys moving around and changing sides of the ball.

In a couple of years if we have the athletic talent level up to a reasonable level then the coaches can afford to get picky about position but right now we need the best athletes we can get regardless of position.

Guys, we need more than three WRs. At least a couple true freshmen are going to be playing next year in some role. This is the year to load up (4-5).
