Who do you trust to make plays?

To me, our road woes are directly tied to a dearth of true difference makers on this roster. So I looked at the roster and came up with two players I trust when a play needs to be made: Rodney Stewart and Paul Richardson.

That's it. Two players.

Something needs to change sooner rather than later.

Deehan seems to make plays, they just don't give him the ball very often.

Can't say that I fully trust Speedy to make a play. His capacity for negative plays has soured me a bit. Nonetheless your point is well taken.

my feeling with the last staff was that on "big plays" they preferred to try and outsmart the other guys with the play-call instead of trust the players to make a play. so, that usually didn't work. and that Dan's "waiting for something good to happen and drop out of the sky" philosophy takes the game away from the players on the field. that mentality may take some time to turn around.

Paul Richardson. That's it. Maybe someone will change my mind this week.

Hartigan just stared at Moniz as he ran by on a couple of plays.

Speedy and P-Rich.

There are other guys I trust to do their jobs, but those are our only 2 playmakers we can count on.

Hansen needs to join this group and we another WR or a TE to join the mix.

On defense, I think that we could see guys like Obi, Rippy, Major, Chidera and Orms join that mix. We need that to happen.

Until he starts to consistently out-fight defenders for tough catches for 1st downs or touchdowns and break tackles to give us extra yards after his catches, I can't call him a playmaker. I don't think he's capable of explosion plays, so I won't ask it of him. That's supposed to be Thornton's role as the move TE in our offense.

Until somebody steps up the only answers on O are Speedy and PRich. Personally, I really wanna see Thornton be that guy that gets it going. Its huge to have productivity from that position in this offense. Also need another running back and somebody in the slot to step up and I dont care who it is. On D, Im starting to trust Diribe more and more. Guy has a chance to be really good. As far as the rest gotta see more games even with Perkins, hope he gets healthier as we go.

Not sure where this is coming from. Game after game, Speedy just gets the job done. He quietly rushed for over 1300 yards last year, he accounted for over half of our offensive yardage at Hawaii...let me say that again, he accounted for OVER HALF(nearly 2/3) of our total offensive production. Speedy not only deserves the trust, but also has the performance numbers to back it up.

Chidera is getting there. He gave us the play we needed in the 3d. Didn't he have 2 sacks in that game?

Yeah even tho we couldnt run the ball, Speedy made a big impact. Hell he almost had a 100 yard receiving day, if he wouldve caught that swing pass out in the flat he would have. It was set up pretty well.

I agree, although 2 of our last 3 road games have not been losses because of the lack of playmakers. They have been the results of us stepping on our dicks (KU and UH)

Semantics I suppose, but trust in certain players implies those guys will not fold/step on their dicks in crunch time. Still think we should have beat KU, cannot say the same about Hawaii.

Uzo-Diribe is the defensive player to watch. He was getting past the HI D-Line to pressure Moniz on many occasions. He relies on a funky spin move to get past his blocker. I prefer Chidera's performance over Hartigan's. I'll be focused on #9-D as much as #9-O this season. It's a good move keeping Chidera on the strong side against Cal.

Moniz burned Hartigan with his feet. Josh won't be happy with his film review. He was over committed to getting around his defender and lost track of the ball carrier.

I thought Orms did a good job covering Royce Pollard on Saturday Parker limited the air attack by limiting throws to Hawaii's most experienced receiver.

One of the Hawaii guys in the stands asked me if Rodney was related to Kordell...same school, same last name. That question made me smile.

Rodney needs help from Danniwitz, Ahles, Adkins and the TE's for hime to get 100+ rushing against Cal. I hope this group shows the biggest improvement this week. I trust Speedy on the screen pass but he's limited when running up the gut. I'd like to have a big guy who can move the pile and not get thrown around like a rag doll for those tough short yardage conversions.

P Rich looks great in the red zone. He wasn't as useful between the 30's, probably due to a hurried QB.

It's too bad Hansen was eclipsed by Moniz at the quarterback position. Without Moniz, Hawaii's offense was nothing special. Moniz put on a good show. Playmakers make plays. Moniz was the game's most effective playmaker.

Remember the "Randy Ratio" that the Vikings had. I seriously think we need the "PRich Proportion". 40% of the throws. Get that kid some touches.

While Hawai'i worked our O-line (and that was the main reason we lost), I still think we beat Hawai'i if not for a handful of mental errors.

And the lack of playmakers goes for the D too, Sandersfield needs to make that pick 6 happen to tie it up. You need corners you can rely on for that stuff too.

I watch the same game everyone else does and I rarely see Major doing anything that is WOW impressive.

Rodney is good in the open field and Richardson looks like a player. Other than that can't think of any on offense.

fify.

Wasn't Rodney number one (or somewhere high) in the nation last year for short yardage conversion ratio?
