Has The Big 12 Been Saved ??

Rivals Board-

there's chatter that...

Sources close to the discussion coming out of the Big 12 meeting have said the conference is sticking together at nine and will look to add a 10th team.

The issues have been resolved and an equal revenue sharing partnership is being worked out among the remaining members.

This is a big win for Baylor and Texas as both worked together to save the conference from scattering across the country.

The Aggies should have an announcement by tomorrow on joining the SEC.

On the possibility of pursuing litigation, the Big 12 members still have not signed the waiver, but if the gentleman's agreement is kept there shouldn't be an issue.

I guess this is being posted on the Longhorn and Baylor's 24/7 sites and behind pay-walls...

Here's what the Baylor writer said.

According to BearsTruth.com’s Brian Ethridge, Texas A&M will be allowed to go to the Southeastern Conference as a deal has been reached between the remaining nine members of the Big 12 that will remove the specter of a potential lawsuit.

According to Ethridge, although it is unlikely that a waiver will ever be signed by all remaining members of the Big 12, the institutions are willing to be party to a gentlemen’s agreement so long as the SEC does not attempt to or agree to poach another school from the Big 12.

IMHO- this is not over that quick-
I don't buy it and can't belive OU is just going to stop thier pursuit. Feelings have been hurt and
I think this is at the point of no return.

HUH? What the **** is up with equal revenue sharing? Why not just pay OU and Mizzou more?

Once again, Missouri is left at the alter.

this chit will not stand. let me put the pin at 13.5 months until Big12 doom.

Over or under?

Wait a minute, why would UT agree to some sort of equal revenue sharing? UT's greed is the whole reason the B12-3 is in this mess.

Probably "equal" means that everyone not named Bevo or Boomer gets the same.

I guess Bevo could be agreeing to get rid of the 20mm guarantee from the conference revenues so long as no one raises a stink about the Bevo Channel. But, then the question is why is OU agreeing to the equal revenue sharing...unless they are getting concessions on starting a Wagon Network.

Never mind - re-read and noticed it is rumors. But still, I just can't see Texas and Baylor "working together"

I agree. If the Big12-2-1 moves to equal revenue OU loses $ compared to moving to the PAC. My guess is Whorns agree to give a more equal share, but they are never going to agree to an equal split with Bailer and TT. Whorns feels those schools are way beneath UT and should be happy with whatever UT tells them they should have.

My worry is this conference is going to get blown up by the TV networks. ATM is gone, CU, NU, so who do they add? No way does BYU join, nobody from SEC is switching, or any other BCS conference so what they add Houston, SMU?

The networks are not paying all that money for a seriously diluted product. They have already lost a large section of the demographic, and with ATM leaving even the Texas market is seriously weakened.

The entire Big12 football broadcast is going to be Whorns and OU in the primetime spots, and after that they have nothing. Anyone outside of a small section of Texas tuning in to watch TT vs SMU?

I hope the conference lasts so we never need to worry about Whorns and the PAC, but best case everything falls apart within 2 years.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm going to watch the **** out of the aTm / Baylor game @ College Station this fall. That just became can't miss TV

No way BYU joins? I'm sorry but is BYU in a BCS league right now? They don't have a Notre Dame type of deal.

I will venture two predictions:

1) Certain conference games will be a wee bit more spirited this season.

2) A&M will be hard pressed to catch any breaks from the officials.

This whole escapade reminds me of Laurel and Hardy's 'Who's on first?'

I have said that people shouldn't underestimate OU's ability to coerce UT into concessions. Equal revenue sharing makes sense here and UT & OU will get paid via their networks.

The B12-3 is a complete and total cluster...and I, for one, and enjoying every minute of these morons showing the rest of the country why we left these 'tards behind.....

Laurel and Hardy never did "Who's on First?"

You're thinking of Abbott & Costello. Now, I could have FIFY, but I prefer to point out your mistake for all to see clearly. It makes me feel better about myself.

I think you are wrong sir. It was Cheech and Chong

"equal revenue sharing" would only apply to conference revenues from conference-controlled media rights, bowl games, and tourney revenues. Each school still owns their own "3rd tier" rights and can market them ala the LHN for whatever they can get.

The XII has already voted to make 76% of the conference revenue distributed evenly, up from 57%. The difference between first and last will be less than 2M per school. Not a big deal. The new distribution policy went into effect for the 2011-12 school year.

And there are two very different things being discussed:

1) Retaining their legal rights by not signing the waiver is not the same as:
2) Actually filing a lawsuit against the SEC or Texas A&M

I have not read anywhere in any of the articles or comments by Big 12 members that there is an actual lawsuit.

Straight split or was there a minimum guaranteed to the top dogs like we did in the PAC with USC & UCLA?

And with Texas A&M leaving the conference, everybody stands to make MORE money in a 9 team league. (Provided the TV contracts will stay with the league after the loss of A&M)

Straight split as a sign of their "good faith" in each other. The $20mm "guarantee" to UT, OU, and A&M never came to pass if I remember correctly.
