Is "The Pod System" a solution?

CU would be pissed and screwed if tu, ou, tt and osu joined and we got subjugated to the Pac 16 East division. We'd play 7 against the old Big XII in **** holes like Lubbock and one or two in Cal. Maybe none in some years. I've seen the "Pod" idea before. So how about the "Pac 16" being divided into four 4 team pods? That way, you would have ou, tu, tt and osu in one, CU, uu, ua and asu in one, usc, ucla, cal and stanford in one and Oregon, osu, uw and wsu in one.

Pods "1, 2, 3, and 4" would alternate playing each other each year with one additional game against a team from the other two. Would that be something that we could accept? Face it, we are only one vote in whatever happens.

Utah and the Arizona schools would be with us though. If we do end up expanding to 16 team conferences, pods is the only way to go.

I would rather see it be worked out to play two of the teams from each of the other three pods. That would keep the nine game conference schedule and give us two games in each of the major regions each year. A game in California (i.e USC away and Cal home then swapping to Stanford away and UCLA home, etc), a game in Oregon or Washington, and a game in the Texas/OU wasteland. It also gives us at least four home conference games a year and five in some - plus whatever non-conference home games we schedule.

ASU, Utah, and AU aren't interested in losing exposure in CA anymore than we are. So we aren't one vote, we're 4 votes, which is enough to kill expansion. So as long as Texas keeps acting like Texas, and as long as there aren't many tv's in Kansas and Oklahoma, we don't have to worry about pods.

Despite our possible block of votes (CU,ASU,UA,UU), I'm still guessing that if Larry Scott says it should happen, the votes will fall in place and expansion would occur.

As for the POD system, if we went to a Pac16, I'd hope that the POD setup would become reality and I'd be in favor of that.. However, I think there are hurdles based on the NCAA's rules on how divisions are structured (must play each team in the division each year), so it would take some reworking of the "rules" to make it a reality. At least that's my understanding.

Considering that if we go to 16, that probably means at least one other super conference probably will too. I'm betting the rules will be changed.

If there is a Pac-16, SEC 16 and Big Ten 16 (along with probably an ACC 16 and/or Big East 16), the rules will be what we all want them to be.

I see your point BinaryBuff, but I don't think Larry Scott pushes hard for expansion unless Texas is part of the deal. I don't see how OU, OSU, KU and MU bring enough added tv revenue to increase the average take for the schools already in the conference. And as long as Texas acts like Texas, I think we're safe.

With that expansion, it's not just the local markets or the game volume from 4 additional teams. What makes it especially valuable is that it puts us in the central time zone and gives us an additional time slot for broadcast of football and basketball games.
