Things CU must do from here on out....

Defense- Tackling must improve. CU could of had 6-7 sacks in this game and it must get better.

Offense- I know we've had injuries but the pass blocking has to improve. The run blocking was better but still needs more consistency.

Hansen can't overthrow wide open guys for td's. CU has to have those. There were drops too but the penalties have to stop.

Special teams- Coverage team needs to improve, bad tackling.

Kickoffs, we need to quit kicking out of bounds after we score.

If you stop the penalties - or just cut them in half - there will be many more opportunities for the defense to get off the field and the offense to sustain drives.

Overcoming two holding penalties on that last drive was great, but that's not going to happen all that often.

If we cut down on the yellow flags and learn how to close out games, we have a good shot at a winning season.

Win games, stop penalties and improve offense game plan and O-line play. EB hasn't impressed yet. Personally, I want that running game. Today was a step forward. I wonder about Orms and Perkins. And penalties, I said it twice. I like the kickers. More confidence also. I think Embo is learning and the team is starting to understand. Better days ahead.

I don't know if we're going to be able to rely on the run game until the o-line play improves.

We are going to face much more difficult d-lines than CSU's, probably all year.

I hated that he overthrew Clemons and Deehan, wide open, and made a poor throw on the shovel pass (I think it was a poor toss, Speedy may have been too far ahead on that play). However, TH made some terrific plays running the ball.

Disagree on EB. I thought he called a good game, and made some good adjustments midway. Execution was poor at times, with Hansen overthrowing some deep balls off play action and PRich having the dropsies b/c he was trying to do too much.

Orms closes well and makes solid tackles. Maybe he should be moved to safety?

- Totally agree. And Stewart just falls down 4 yards behind the LOS...or refuses to put his head down with one yard to go. Looks like Hansen has stepped up as our power back. (I can't understand why our FB hasn't had a SINGLE carry yet this year...especially on 3rd and 1 situations).

As for the comment "Special teams- Coverage team needs to improve, bad tackling."...our punt coverage is actually #3 in the Pac-12 (and tied for 27 in the country) at 4.3 yds/return.

Offense-Get healthy on the offensive line, simple as that really. We are doing well on offense all things considered. We are not going to ever be a well-oiled machine this season, but there is no reason to complain about EB right now. He is doing a solid job and Speedy has been a stud for us so far.

Defense-Limit the big plays from QB scrambles and improve on third down. We are going to have issues at CB all season, but if the front seven can continue to play reasonably well, we can be okay here.

Special Teams-Quite simply, the kickoffs and punts have to get better. No excuse for kickoffs to continue to go out of bounds. As far as punts go, O'Neill has to stop with the line drives. He really put our coverage team in bad spots yesterday. Also would like to see us go away from Speedy returning punts. He does not look natural returning punts and seems more worried about just catching the ball than positioning himself for a big return.

Overall, I am feeling pretty good about this team. We have not played close to our best game yet.

stop the penalties!!!!

Stop the unbelievably stupid penalties. Penalties happen and life goes on but late hits, dancing in the endzone and Ryan Miller pulling some lame ass wrestling sit down on a guy just have to stop. Holding tends to come from just getting beat or being out of position, so stop getting beat so badly.

The only complaint I have about EB is in the red zone. Otherwise I think he's called very good games. Hopefully the CSU game marks the end of our red zone problems. Having Hansen as a running threat will help in the red zone, so would throwing to one of our big receivers/tight ends.

In Stewart's defense, he did not "just fall down". Either he or Hansen were out of position on that play and Hansen had to stretch to get the ball to him. In doing so, he hit Rodney's foot and knocked it into his other leg. I think Stewart still dances too much in the hole but he had a good day overall. Jones seemed to simply put his head down more.

Penalties and penalties and penalties. Holding, personal fouls, holding, personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc.

You can get away with that crap and beat CSU. However next week through the end of the season, if we top 60 yards in penalties, we don't win. It's that simple. This team won't give itself a chance to win if they continue to be so undisciplined. If they even want to have a chance at a winning season (or surprising a few people across the nation) they need to play smarter.

The heart is there, the head is not right now.

I am pretty sure that was the cal game. And your semi-optimism is weirding me out.

Not so sure about that because that was an extremely unbalanced game offensively.

This team is better than most are giving it credit for and I think that will be shown over the next three months.

:scared2: Now I am terrified.

I think we have improved with each game. Overall I think our offense looked better yesterday than it did for the CAL game. PRich took a step back, but others stepped up (which is what we need), our running game got going too. I am liking the improvement. If we can clean up the penalties, a bowl game is still a very good possibility.

I think we should run the slip screen every play. Has it gone for less then a first down at all?

I don't think that the Cal game is our best game of the season. We still had 75+ yards in penalties and Speedy was held under 100 yards by a lot. If you take away P.Rich, there was not a whole lot of positives about that game (no turnovers and no sacks). Without him we get smoked. It was nothing more than a great individual effort, we didn't play that impressive as a team and gave up 36 points to a moderately impressive Cal team.

I think our defense played much better against CSU than against Cal, and our offense was better (aka more diverse, more competent) against CSU than against Cal. We still have not put together 4 quarters of football and we are still being undisciplined, but I would say that we played better as a TEAM against CSU than against Cal.

just my $.02
