Can't believe all my life, I've never been to an AFA game. I have heard great things about them. Was thinking about going to the AFA/Army game on November 5th since the CU/USC game is on that Friday.

Anybody ever been? Thoughts?
 
It's a good time. Their offense can be boring to watch. Usually pregame stuff is cool, but other than the cadets the crowd sits on their hands and is quiet. Sound system is horrible. I still try to go to 2-3 games a year anyway because they are still worth going to.

Go. Do it. I've never been to an AFA game either, but I can't imagine that a service academy rivalry game is anything but awesome.
 
afa games are fun... especially on service academy game days... ridiculous amount of fly overs... the pageantry is awesome and respect is palpable

I would try to go earlier in the year (October). The fall setting can be really dramatic....might still be nice in early November though.

Went down there for Notre Dame in 2002,played em tough,lost 21-14 if I remember right.Willinghams 1st or 2nd year.Aside from AFA losing it was a cool experience

I go to several per year. They are a blast but very different from the college game you're used to. Family friendly, not a drunken mess, small stadium etc. Army/AFA is a great one to go to. Fills the stadium usually and plenty of rivalry. Be there in time for the fly over, it's usually good for Army.
 
I've been a couple times, really enjoyed it.

Although my best memory is from a game where the wind was howling (I understand this isn't unusual), and one of the punters absolutely boomed a kick into the wind. I believe it netted 4 yards.
 
Been to many AF games. As was said earlier - go if you have the chance. The pre-game pagentry is awesome (especially when they play another service academy). Yeah, the crowd is generally more "laid back", but that's not why you go. The stadium is all by itself in a field, but still is a nice setting for a game. Tickets are dirt cheap, too (although the Army tix may be more). If you really plan on going, I'd get my tickets now. Army is one of the few that regularly sell out.
 
Went to the Army v. Navy game in Philly a few years back and it was very cool with the pageantry at the start of the game. Plus they all did these movie trailer type videos with (go army, beat navy) & (go navy, beat army) themes. Plus the flyovers are always allsome!
 
At an AFA game a while back, one of the best cheers ever....Fumble play, fumble play, we must have a fumble play. I hope AF lands in a good spot.
 
ESPN writers have called it the best kept secret in all of college football. Seriously is a great time especially in a game like army. Stadium is old school but they play a fun type of football when they get that ground game going. You should go, well worth the money.
 
Don't get me wrong their offense is a work of art, especially if you just watch the blocking schemes for a few plays. I've just been to a few games where they seem to run the fullback dive about 20 times a game for 2 yards a pop.
 
Went to the 1985 ND AFA game, the game that pretty much finished Gerry Faust at ND. Fantastic game day experience, but be prepared for a long time getting in and out, if I remember correctly.
 
A game at Falcon stadium is an experience you should not miss. Seeing the cadets enter and then hearing the cadet section is very unique. The fly-bys, the military atmosphere, the old school stadium all make it a great place to see a game.

The Air Force team is usually not as talented as the opponent but it is great to see them play with discipline and it is fun to watch a very different kind of offense and defense.

Only thing to avoid. Try not to go to late in the season. The stadium is located in a way that it catches the winds at the base of the mountains. Absolutely colder than **** on a bad day.
 
Definitely go check it out. I went probly 7 or 8 years ago when my cousin played for AFA, they were playing Army and the fly overs were unbelievable. Went a couple years ago for a non service academy opponent and it wasn't quite as good. Still worth the trip tho.
 
I went last time Army came into town and it was awesome!!! The game was noncompetitive but it was easily top three greatest game day environments I witnessed. The tailgates were setup like base camps and you could hangout and visit with servicemen. The Air Force had flight and drone simulators. The Army had a ton of their vehicles we could crawl around in and allowed civilians to play around with the bomb diffusing robots. One of the Army soldiers challenged me to a foot race where we were both dressed in full battlefield getup (Holy S*** that gear is heavy). I stayed even with him for about fifteen feet until I about fell on my face from the gear.

The other cool thing was after AF scored and all the cadets rushed the field to do push-ups even Generals and other commanding officers joined in.

Plus, there was free beer :thumbsup:(well you actually donated to the The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center).

Do they usually fill it? It seats 46,700 and can go to 52,500 for big games , which in that case isn't much smaller than Folsom.

Like many, I'd love to rotate AFA in and play the Falcons some years instead of CSU. Although frankly, AFA is a much tougher game than CSU and the last thing we need to do right now is make our schedule more difficult than it already is. CU hasn't played AFA since 1974 -- there aren't exactly a ton of FBS schools within easy driving range of Boulder, that's far too long to go without playing them. The Buffs and Falcons should be facing off twice a decade. Also, don't be surprised if we meet them in the New Mexico or Las Vegas bowls, that's definitely one of the more appealing Pac-12/MWC matchups they could put together, especially when considering the great attendance the New Mexico Bowl would draw from that.
 
I have heard a series here would be difficult to get started. The AFA AD is not at all interested in playing CU. Apparently there was some gross disrespect payed to the cadets, and other service men and women who were at the game by CU fans the last time they played. Ever since AFA has been very hesitant to schedule CU in anything.

Source: Dad, taught at AFA and still knows some faculty members.

37 years ago.

I can see hesitation from both sides due to scheduling philosophy, but troops have been out of Vietnam for 36 years now. It's unfortunate and embarrassing that happened, however.

extremely embarrassing, but from what I have been told there is still some hesitation to put air force personnel into that type of environment again. Maybe its cuz we are in another unpopular war. I am not sure.

We have a small segment of students that act like assholes (that's the case virtually everywhere), but I'd be completely shocked if a game vs. AFA turned into a brutal anti-military protest at Folsom. Our ROTC kids seem to genuinely enjoy their time at CU like anyone else would these days, but I'm sure some could speak to that more than I can. This country has come a long, long way in respecting our troops. I think AFA would be treated very respectfully in Boulder, but that's just my 2¢
