syracuse vs toledo

Did anyone see the ending to that game? Toledo is now demanding that they be awarded the win from the big east. I dont know if that can be done but I know from seeing the kick that refs and replay officials should be fired.

For those who didnt see the game. Near the end of regulation syracuse was down 29-30 pending a PAT. The ball narrowly missed the upright and should have been wide left. The ref on the ground ruled it good and so did the replay official. The problem is that in the replay the ball never disappears behind the goal post obviously meaning it didn't go in. The extra point forced overtime where Syracuse won by a FG.

I wonder what changes we may see in college football due to this type of thing. Do we start using non conference refs for all games so they are truly neutral?

In terms of overturning game results, I remember from the Fifth Down game that the conference weighed in and said that the result would stand, but that CU still could have forfeited the win. It's not like this was the last play of the game, Toledo could have scroed a go-ahead TD in regulation or won in OT. FYI, I believe the improperly awarded PAT put Syracuse up 30-27, and Toledo went down and tied it to send it to OT, but the score should have been 29-27 with Toledo kicking for the win. I was really disapponted that the announcers didn't go ballistic, saying something like "I guess there wasn't enough evidence," as if there was any scientific way for the ball to appear in front of the upright but later still go in.

I thought that, typically, the road team brought their conference's officials to non-conference away games (thinking of the Big East crew who called the 1993 Miami game). But, even though the refs on the field missed it, this one is on the replay official in the booth - there is no excuse for missing this call.

You are correct about the score, Toledo would have been down 29-27 and their field goal would have won the game. Im not really interested in whether they award Toledo the win or now, more concerned about changes that could be made to officiating. This was a blatant missed call that is inexcusable. The ref looking up at the uprights should be able to make that call 100% of the time. The replay booth should have overturned that call. There was either a ref bias or the refs are incompetent. No way around it.
