He should be let go after the season. He has left in a bad spot with piss poor recruiting and I am not sure he has what it takes to be a defensive coordinator at this level.

(Obviously no change will happen, but you might as well get used to defensive breakdowns as long as he remains in his current roles)

We need to get someone who can recruit DBs. This is ridiculous. You should never have a WR and TB playing DB.

Looked like Ron Collins out there today. I don't know what the stats are on the season, but it certainly feels like we allow 3rd and 10 conversions like no other.

It's hard to argue with his development at the CB position, but the safety position...

what a bunch of whinie idiots. GB did a damn good job, playing with a RB and WR as DBs. Get a clue.

He had a converted RB and DB playing because HE DOES NOT RECRUIT! And if you call getting beat 31-27 on a late deep TD pass along with giving up nearly 400 yards passing, then I think your standards are pretty low.

Might want to look at who was recruiting the secondary players the last 4 years. And that man was GREG BROWN

Recruiting has been bad, I agree BB - but let's not ignore the injury bug in the secondary either.

Still, I don't care who you have - you can't blow a 10 point lead with 5 minutes left

Rofl.

I could have sworn I saw Perkins and Terrell Smith getting burned for TDs in the last few minutes. Sorry, I should have known it's not Greg Brown's fault those guys are getting burned.

here's the funny thing. I dont' think there's much of a difference between the guys that are out and the converted guys that were in today. None of them are Pac 12 players

The problem was not the CB today. So using playing converted WR or RB at CB is a poor excuse. Look at the last scoring play. Our Safeties were in the wrong coverage. They should have been deep, invite WAST to run the ball at them. Greg Brown defensive game plan was poor today.

Uh no it was our DBs and S fault. Gave up 376 YDs passing on 32 ATT and Wazzu was 7-13 on 3rd downs, with the majority of them being passing plays.

No it was bad defensive and offensive play calling that put the team in that position. AGain can some one pls tell why is Olatoye, Moten, Hawkins not playing. Because i saw Olatoye at spring ball. He is not a great player, but not bad enough for a converted RB and WR to start ahead of him.

+1....Espinoza has no business ever seeing the field

What the hell ru talking about wrong coverage? Lol and I doubt they were gonna run with no to's. It was a 2 deep look. It wasnt the wrong coverage, Perkins stepped on his dick. He cant get beat deep there, if anything, it was a blown coverage not the wrong one. If you mean we should man up and play a single safety high, I might follow you more. However, we were playing 2 deep to keep from getting beat deep. It didnt work but not a scheme issue, Perkins is a ****ing senior, he should know that. All he could of done since he bit is tackle the guy and take the penalty but didnt do that either. The ****** recruiting part is right on, I will say that.

Because the staff obviously feels that they aren't good enough, and that's saying something. There was one bad play call on the offense on 3rd and 6 but play calling did not lose us the game. Players not nutting up and blowing their assignments lost us the game. Coaches can only do so much. Players need to take blame. There's no reason for out corners to bite on that and there's no reason for our safeties to be that shallow. That's not play calling, that's the players not doing their jobs.

Greg Brown was recruiting alongside the rest of the Hawkins staff and the man himself as the head coach. Greg Brown coaching may get you to the League but I'd bet most CB recruits as well as WR and ATH recruits we'd end up playing there were going to any other major conference school over CU if they had an offer. Better programs, better exposure when the last time the school in Boulder looking at you had a winning season ended with getting their head kicked in during a conference championship game under draconian curfews and recruiting restrictions because of a media overhyped scandal.

Brown deserves to share as much blame as could be placed on the coaches with every other member of the staff. But not disproportionately more. There has been some graduation, some attrition and multiple injuries so in addition to his game planning responsibilities he is having to spend every week without a bye deciding how he is going to compensate for half a dozen of his potential starters getting injured and teaching converted players how to fill those roles. I'm not saying extend him or give him a Broyles Award but consider how successful anyone could recruit to a program coming off a coaching regime that won a third of its games and the guys who could be coached up serviceably were on the injured list every week. When the players in a program have never known a winning tradition during their time as collegiate student athletes it's a little extreme to call for the first year DC's dismissal. Everything about this year is new except for the veteran players who have been stuck in this losing cycle so often before.

:yeahthat:

If you're playing 2 deep with a minute left in the game and a 3 point lead, it might be reasonable to think that the #1 responsibility you have as a safety is to NOT GET BEAT DEEP. Which makes squatting on a route and getting beat deep on a double move pretty unforgiveable. I might understand if that happened to BLock or Espinoza today, but our most experienced DB simply can not make that mistake.

don't know when Brown got on the staff. I doubt it since brown and smith came in during hawk's first recruiting year in 2006.
He came back in January of 2006 so I don't think he had much to do with Jimmy Smith committing but he did develop him and Brown into NFL DBs.

It's not just the DBs. It doesn't matter how many guys we run at the opposing QB, we rarely get any pressure. We are low on talent across the board.

Didn't we lead the Pac 12 in sacks? We get pressure sometimes but when we really need to, we can't.

Agree and although I didn't agree with the pass on 3rd and 6 if our LT actually blocks instead of this olay bull**** Hansen has time to set and throw and we probably win.
