Dominique Collier, PG, Billups Elite 15's- A thin 6-foot-1 point guard from Denver (Colo.) East, Collier is smooth, under control, creates off the dribble. Equally dangerous driving right or left, defenders were unable to keep him from getting wherever he wanted with the ball. Collier is an excellent finisher, has a jumper and was basically unstoppable in a tough pool play win over the SYF 15's.

Buffs have stepped up with a very early verbal offer to Collier. Keep an eye on this one. He's going to be special. Combo guard who could play the "2" in addition to his point play.

He was also named to the under-16 U.S national team. Hopefully when the likes of Kansas and Duke come calling he remembers who offered him first.

More from Hoopnik:

The only participant in the weekend’s USA Basketball Developmental National team training camp in Colorado Springs, CO, from the state of Colorado was Dominique Collier,a 6’-2”, 143 pound 2014 point guard from Denver East (CO).

Collier is blessed with a 6’-6” wing span, tops among point guards at the tryout camp. Collier is considered by Colorado high school basketball observers to be the best lead guard prospect that state has had since NBA star Chauncey Billups, which is fitting, because Collier is being mentored by Billups. As a former George Washington (CO) and Colorado star, Billups still has deep roots in the Centennial State. Additionally, Collier is a standout on the Chauncey Billups Elite 15-U grassroots basketball team.

A slippery and deceptively athletic point guard, Collier blends distribution skills with a consistent shot. He lacks physical strength, but has good vision and upside as only an incoming high school sophomore. He told Hoopniks.com that he had spoken to Billups during the tryouts, and was given advice by Billups to be more vocal in the camp environment.

Collier was selected as the first alternate to the team, and was added after Malik Price-Martin left the team due to the death of his brother. He mentioned Colorado and Arizona as potential college suitors, and added that he’s getting interest from Georgetown, Purdue, Florida, Clemson, Virginia, Illinois and others. Collier also has nice bloodlines, as he is the cousin of former NBA All-Star Sidney Moncrief.

I assume Chauncey has to be very careful to not "recruit" the young man. Correct?

Yeah. Fortunately, he can have his brother talk to anyone from his AAU team who wants to have that conversation.

Collier left Chauncey's AAU team and switched to KC Pump 'N Run to get a bit more exposure on the circuit. Despite rumors to the contrary, Collier is expected to remain at Denver East.

Finally ranked by Rivals & Scout. 4* on Rivals and 3* on Scout.

North Carolina interest is always a concern. It also says that Boyle is again in good company with his talent evaluations.
I'm NOT biased or anything...but just because we're recruiting someone that UNC is doesn't mean that we're good at talent evaluation. I DO think Boyle is solidat talent evaluation, but I don't think huckleberry hound is at all. I'm not saying roy's horrible, but he also tends to get in on kids later than a lot of other programs...sort of like he's looking at who's recruiting who, and then decides to seriously evaluate. This isn't always, but sometimes...and sometimes it's ****ing annoying when he wins those recruits he couldn't identify in the first place...

Sounds like another duke fan whining about how UNC is better

Dude, I hate Roy Williams with a passion, but to say that he doesn't have an eye for talent is a joke. That's like saying Calipari doesn't have an eye for talent because he waits until the end to recruit. You know why they wait until the end right? Because they know they can get whomever they want to play there. Simple fact is that these guys are watching kids in 7th grade like every other coach -- they just have the safety net of not having to offer because they're North Carolina/Kentucky/Duke and they know that unless a kid is madly in love with a school, they'll have a punchers chance at them because of who they are.

I'm not saying he doesn't have an EYE for talent...I'm just saying I don't think he's that amazing as his recruiting class' rankings would indicate...and I was just trying to objectify the comment that Boyle's talent evaluation is legitimized by UNC now being in the boat. Sure, it's a legit comment, but at the same time, the sentiments can be tempered. Why? Because UNC jumps into the recruiting picture late with SOME (not ALL, but more than a few) top prospects. I dispute that Cal waits until the end to recruit. As much as I hate him, he is in the ear of many top prospects early. He'll talk to kids late too, but he also is early into kids' ears. UNC...sometimes you read about kids getting recruited by heavy hitters, and then - whoa, hey, UNC decided to join the mix.

Yes, I'm sure my biased head is exaggerating the situation, but **** UNC, **** Roy, and **** KU too.

Agree with Goose on this one. Roy has turned out top recruiting classes year after year for a long time. He recruits the way he does because he can. To say that he isn't in on kids early because they don't have an offer is a false assumption. Ol' Roy knows that with a lot of these kids he can come in late and still get them because it is Carolina, just like he did because it was Kansas. Why lock yourself up with an offer when you can wait and make sure that the kid is who you really want as late as possible and that you don't have someone better turn up that you would rather spend the scholly on. By the way I am certain that Duke isn't above using this same strategy since they are another school that sits high on a lot of kids "dream school" list and they know that if they come in late with the offer they can still get the commit.

Josh Perkins Regis also holds a CU offer and another highly regarded 2014. Sherron Wilson Sierra HS 2014 another CU target that should be on campus soon for a unofficial.

Welcome aboard strong first post....rep

Awesome to hear udy. Just to prove how on top of his game 'Nik is, he already has profiles for Perkins and Wilson. I knew the 2014 class for women's ball in CO was going to be strong, but it appears the men aren't going to be slouches either.

Goose is right. Roy Williams has the option of recruiting guys at whatever point in the process he wants. It's a lot easier that way. I don't think coaches enjoy offering kids when they are freshman in high school, but they have to because their school needs to stand out to that kid and if you offer early, that is a good way to do stand out. North Carolina doesn't need to do that. If you get a UNC offer, they stand out to you, regardless of when it happens in the process.

Look I know my comments seem unsensible, and you all are PROBABLY right...but **** UNC, **** Roy and **** KU. I don't understand how with those last three comments of mine anyone can argue that Roy sucks. They're not opinions...they're more like laws.

Yes, a UNC/Duke/UConn/UK/KU/etc all stand out to recruits...but Roy is still slow with his recruiting SOMEtimes (even compared to other elite schools). Sure, me and other Duke fans probably see it through Duke tinted glasses, but what can I say - except once again...yes, **** UNC, **** Roy and **** KU.

Back to topic though - Collier and his class are a real potential gift to Boyle. I'm still holding out some hope that Thomas wants to come back home too. When CO produces a great bball talent, it'd be nice to see CU lock them up.

He does not have a "commitable" offer. He is being recruited without a doubt, but he does not have an offer.

Do we even put out "committable" offers to guys entering their sophomore years?

This is splitting hairs.

The Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase is going on and it sounds like Dominique Collier is living up to the hype.

Hoopniks:

6'5 WF Treyvon Andres from Thomas Jefferson (CO) showing solid wing game in sophomore game. Dominique Collier also playing well.

Hoopniks (it's a typo as Collier is 2014):

Terrific play from 2013 PG Dominique Collier has brought his team back to within 2 with 1:20 left. Chauncey Billups looking on.

Josh Gershon:

2014 Denver guard Dominique Collier is getting interest from North Carolina. Wants to visit within next couple of months.

I get the feeling that it's going to be hard to keep him in-state, but after what our staff has done in the last few months I rule nothing out.

Dude i went to the showcase and didn't see Chances Matlock (Falcon) there. He graduates in 2014. I saw him drop 20+ against Wasson last year. I'm pretty sure hes got footage on You tube. Class of 14 is gonna be nice!!!!!
