From Game notes:

Nearing the midway point of the season (which is technically Tuesday at midnight), 30 players have seen their first action as Buffaloes this season; that tied the 2008 team for the most players getting their first taste of ball as a Buffalo over the last 28 seasons (dating back to 1984). Within that number are 23 freshmen (13 true/10 redshirt); the 13 true frosh are tied for the eighth most in the nation in 2011, and the most who have played for CU in a single season dating back to at least 1984. In only three other years since then has Colorado played double digit prep rookies: 11 in 2002 and 10 each in 1984 and 2000.

Caught my eye. This does not excuse things like blocked FG. But I'm pretty amazed at how many youngsters have played. I like the references to 1984, although I refuse to fall into that trap again, and even if so, hope it doesn't take 5 ****ing years to get decent again.

:bang:.

I expect a similar, if not greater, number of frosh (RS and true) to play next year, and then you can add in JUCO guys... Should be interesting to see. In his second season, Embree will have more of his guys playing than HaLk guys. Pretty fast turn around.

That's a repeat of what we saw with Hawkins by year 3 of his tenure. The real key is what the quality of true freshmen will be in 2012 - and for the 2-deep talent to be much better, recruiting this year has to get better. Filling a class with 3-star players (except for a class or two) is what we've seen for the last 7 or 8 years. Now is the tiome to improve the talent. Tough to do looking at a one to three win season - bit that's why JE/EB were hired . . .

Agree. But I'll also say that not all 3* players are created equally. We saw some pretty damn good 3* teams at Texas Tech under Leach that got more 2* than 4* players, for example.

Ah, the term Brent Woody Musburger uses. Tini is gonna accuse you of being old.

Plus our 3*'s seem to have a lot more offers then the 3*'s under halk. If most of the offers are legit, I will take that as a better indication of their skill level. We seem to be completing against real live BCS teams, and not UTEP and Maine for every recruit.

as long as they have skill sets, fast, big, good grades, dedication to the program and winners that's all we fans ask

At this point we will have to settle for a majority of solid 3* guys on the roster. The new guys have talent as we have seen already. Those 3* guys will get us to a bowl game and a winning record. After we get to that level then we will be able to snag som 4* guys and take it to the next level where we all really want the program to be.

This is how I originally read this... I smell a fundraising opportunity! Maybe we can get the Fieldhouse upgraded sooner rather than later.

Ya, but in year 1. More argument that HaLk's claims (that some, including me, bought for a while) that the cupboard was bare his first few years are crap. The cupboard is bare NOW.

The cupboard is bare NOW.

100% agree. Our class balance is so ****ed right now, its going to take a while. The past two years, hawk did not help us at all on the recruiting trail. Brought in too many character risks, academic risks, and athletic risks that we are now in a serious whole. I am glad JE was able to patch together some balance at QB class wise. But we need to get to two seasons from now in order for our roster to start looking like it should. Luckily with all the experience our freshman are getting, they may be ahead of the curve next season.

It's going to come down to player development. Hawkins got some very decent, in some cases exceptional, recruits but only a handful ever improved - AT ALL. Some of the 3*s we're looking at can be major 2-deep contributors if they are brought along properly and pushed to improve. At least we can say today that we have tomorrow's QBs figured out.

This MUST be true or we will be looking for a new staff in 3 years.

Should be, we have two 4* Qb's able to play next year, a RS sophomore that knows the system, and Shrock, a walkon who surprised everyone this past spring. Should be a fun and productive QB battle this offseason. Will be nice to have D1 talent back there again.

Okay, Wood was a 4* guy, but who's our 2nd 4*? Dillon is 3 *s across the board.
He was a 4 *, rivals knocked him down recently. Doesn't change the fact that they are probably the 2 most talented QBs to step on campus since Ochs if not even earlier.

Was is the best you've got? I obviously knew that, I have been paying attention, but it's weak sauce at this point. I'm happy with the guy, just keepin' it real. He's not a 4* guy now.

I'm probably stating the obvious, but I think the first big step is to keep the best in-state players. Shane Callahan, Alex Kozan & Joey O'Connor. Somehow, someway close those guys. Two of those guys are committed to schools that are on the other side of the country. WTF? When is ther family going to see them play in their four years in school? You have to find a way to win your own back yard. CU should have a big advantage in CO with the family proximity to the school. That's a huge factor in recruiting. Proximity is the #1 factor for most recruits, I believe.

His stats may not show it but I do not understand what the recruiting services saw that lead to the drop honestly. He was a finalist at the elite 11. That is the top tier of QB's in the country. My point being it wasnt too long ago he was a 4*, Wood was a 4* coming out of HS. More talent then we have seen at the qb spot in a loooonnnnngg time
