Looked like the defense quit in the 1st half

Not that they played much better in the 2nd.

We were out-played, out-classed, and out-schemed. Still not down on the coaches. I felt like we had opportunities to make a bunch of plays on defense and continuously fail to do so. That's on the players. Unless you can get off the field on 3rd down, you are going to suck. This unit has found ways time after time to give up 1st downs and more on that particular down.

I thought going into the game that our front seven would determine how this game would go, especially the LB's. Hate to say it but we failed miserably there. We sucked in zone coverage, bit on fakes, missed tackles, failed to close on opportunities and generally didn't play very physical which is why UW pounded the crap out of us. Our tackling is horrendous.

How do we fix this? We probably don't this year. I think we will have a chance to play with teams who don't have scrambling QB's. I think if the QB can run, we're in trouble.

We should start the youth movement. Hell, I'll take my chances with young guys making mistakes who will eventually learn from them vs. the letterman who allow the same thing to happen time after time.

Fundamentally we need to go back to square one on defense. We don't have much depth and it shouldn't matter. This team needs more padded practices, hitting, and just generally getting tougher. We look weak minded.

Whole different ball game on offense. I think the dramatic impact a consistent QB will have on this team will be amazing once Connor Wood is taking snaps vs. Hansen. Not saying he will single handedly solve all issues but he just needs to be better on those 5-10 plays that Hansen messes up each game. Hopefully he can read a defense too.

ANyways, the season is painful, I think we had a few bright spots today but really this roster needs to be turned over with better recruiting and more attrition on the current roster.

Is wood a good qb? Will he beat out hirschman or dillon? The fascination with wood is strange.

Lack of talent or quitting, what ever the case, it is time to get the youth in there. Anyone who has burned a redshirt and is at least close to the upperclassmen starting, should start.

Connor Wood was ranked by Rivals #3 rated pocket passing QB coming out as a senior the year he committed to Texas. Relative unknown but *sources* have said he's been by far the most impressive QB on the Buffs practice field this fall since walking on early in the season. Coaches have said internally he'd be starting if he could. I think that says a lot.

I think this bodes well for us next year but like every other position, there will be a learning curve i'm sure many fans won't know how to handle. In all interviews i've seen though, he seems like a very mature young man. Rivals has some footage of him in HS that you can't find unless you have a subscription and his film remains me of a quicker Ben Roethlisberger. Very strong arm, and his escapability gives us a huge play making entity that we don't have.

Boy, I don't know. If I were the coach, I'd be playing who I thought were the best guys and who gave us the best chance to win. If you just start benching guys and throwing in young guys, well, I think that sends a poor message. I'd bench a guy if I thought he was not giving his best effort, but not just to give young guys playing time, unless a game was out of control.

Yeah good point. I should modify to say

"should start or see increased playing time."

Agree. Pick your spots. Thing is, if the young, inexperienced guys aren't better than our present starters, well, you get my drift.

Well I guess Rippy is done for the year so we should see Brady Daigh starting in our 3-4 alignment as soon as next week.

Defense definitely quit. This was a beaten team when watchinf live. Zero energy

I sound like a broken record, but I will say it again - That was the worst half of defensive football I've ever seen - High School, College or Pro. Completely inexcusable regardless of talent or injuries.
