Embree: leaves open possibility of burning Malcolm Creer's redshirt

The injury leaves the CU offense to rely on redshirt freshman Tony Jones and third-year sophomore Josh Ford to pick up the slack. Embree also left open the possibility of removing the redshirt from true freshman running back Malcolm Creer, who has been impressing coaches in practice enough to make the travel squad of 63 players this week.

"Who else are we going to play?" Embree said when asked about taking Creer's redshirt off this late in the season. "We don't have anyone else."

Polk needs to play some Iron Man. If nothing else it may get him too tired to hit people out of bounds when he is on D?

Let's get Creer in the game. I doubt anybody see's Ford playing, rightly or wrongly. With that said, we don't have the luxury of red-shirts. We're far behind the 8-ball in terms of talent and need to find guys who can play.

What's the point of burning a redshirt now?

It's not like playing Creer is going to bring wins down the stretch.

I wouldn't burn any redshirts at this point. Save them for next year.

Burn his red shirt this year. Plan to redshirt him next year. Burn his redshirt, again.

reasoning? he ran a kickoff return for a td in practice, hell, who hasn't and ran for a bunch of yards - once again, who hasn't... remember in spring ball how "good" the offense looked?

I vote no. I think TJ and JF can fill the need but if we lose one of those two we might need to rethink the situation.

We should just convert a wr to rb

give the ball to the damn fullback some also - mix it up! what happened to tclem yesterday? didn't see his name at all

Polk and B-lock are both RB's.

But I vote to burn the shirt and trust in your ability to recruit down the line, and the playing time should make him better back at the start of next season.

I seem to remember Embree saying he wish he had Hansen for another year...sounds familiar. I'm not in favor of burning a redshirt in the 8th game of the season unless it's an absolute emergency. What's being gained from it at this point? Those that say to play the best guys now...are we really going to get more wins this way, are we really making the team that much better for next year? I think not. Then again, maybe this qualifies as an emergency...that's why Embree makes the big bucks.

I'm all for it. Get as much experience for the young guys as possible. Recruit for the future. The only people I wouldn't pull redshirts on would be linemen. Otherwise, if they can play, get them on the field and get them experience.

I'm wondering why our Te's aren't more involved in the offense especially with a former te as HC. I know people aren't enamored with bahr but we have deehan and he hardly gets a look anymore.

As for burning creer's RS, meh, either way, no matter.

Could be the QB. Could be the play calls. Could be that our TEs aren't getting open. Could be that we've been giving up so many sacks that we are helping Dannewitz by keeping a TE in for protection on his side.

Probably a mix of all that.

Was Cordary Allen really that awful that he couldn't remain at rb or fullback rather than rot on the depth chart at te?

Hate to look back at the spring game now but I think Ford at least needs a shot at getting carries before we burn a redshirt. Too bad Lock is injured or we'd be able to consider him too. Same with the DB injuries because if we had depth we should at least give Polk a shot. Ideally, if we're not ready to play any freshmen next year I'd like to see Polk finally get a shot running the ball so we can throw the what-if ball around some on this board.

Embree's not making the big bucks. He's getting paid way less than the average football coach at a BCS school. As for Creer, I hope they don't burn his redshirt at this point unless he's considerably better than T Jones and J Ford, which I doubt. Haven't seen Ford much, but Jones looks solid to me.

He really doesn't accelerate off the snap well enough to hit the hole like you'd want. If you go back and look at his HS film, most of the damage he did was on pitches or reverses when he was already moving when he got the ball. He could develop into a move TE that could help us by catching the ball in space, but his future wasn't in the backfield from what I saw.

I don't mind it if they burn Creer's redshirt. As long as he's going to get real touches, it's fine. It would be a good opportunity for him. Not only would he get to play as a true freshman, but it would give him an advantage heading into next year when we're bringing in 2 or 3 RBs and we already have DD Goodson redshirting from the 2011 class.

From the Daily Camera "Embree's contract, which includes plenty of incentives for on-field success, pays him roughly $725,000 in his first year in guaranteed compensation."

Cry me an effing river. He's the head coach, his pay is commensurate with his experience. He gets paid just fine to make these decisions.

His pay is fine. For someone with absolutely no coordinator experience or head coaching experience - his pay is more than adequate.

He's actually getting paid more than Paul Wulff from Washington State, believe it or not.

Embree gave up part of his bucks to compensate EB who was at $500K at Minnesota and to attract or raise the other coaches. I think Jon would work for free. He is passionate about this. Not a money issue at all. The results so far may not be good but if someone strives and their intentions are real, I'll ride with them. Jon Embree is still the right man for this job. I'm as pissed as all of you are but I trust this guy. It will take time.
