We also offered Thomas's teammate at Sam Houston, huge DE Javonte Magee.

Brookhart really liked what he saw when he stopped by Sam Houston HS to check out Thomas:

When Scout checked in with the Sam Houston defensive back earlier this month, he was benching 215 pounds, squatting 225, and running a 4.55.

After adding 30 pounds to his squat max, pushing 225 on bench, Thomas's 6-foot-3 frame has gained a solid 10 pounds (now 175).

And while bulking up, he's actually managed to shave time off his forty in working exceptionally hard in speed drills this spring. (Now reportedly posts a 4.49)

Look for Thomas to camp at CU next month.

I could go either way on Thomas. The height and the straight-line speed are definitely there. Can't really see from the highlights what kind of angles he takes in run support. Lateral quickness is a little iffy, so he might have a hard time staying with slot receivers breaking on post or corner routes. Wouldn't be disappointed if we signed him, but not the end of the world if we don't.

Arizona is going to really struggle this year on defense and so we'll see how this class looks in 6 months.

Hard to imagine we were all that high on him if North Texas was in his top 2. I think we're looking alright at safety. Chris Solomon is looking good and Manea Manea seems to like us and I'm fairly confident we can beat out Wazzu. I would like a big rangy guy, though.

Don't have any idea what the Rivals article says but
A) This kid would be a good get at a position of need, looks like the kind of safety that Brown likes to use.
B) Might help us a little with getting some of the other Arizona kids to consider us and visit. Probably hasn't had time to get to know them much but they may be paying attention to what the other commits are doing. Getting one to commit to CU may get some others thinking that it is a good idea for them as well.

I like the measurables!

Pros:
- has pretty legit speed once he gets going
- definitely has the height to go for jump balls
- seems to have a knack for making plays

Cons:
- average quickness imo, takes awhile to get to top speed. Not a great attribute for a safety imo.
- needs to add a ton of weight, he looks like that corner we had a few years ago (McKay?)
- not very physical, doesn't really tackle. Just throws his shoulder at people.

Like I said before, he just doesn't jump out at me. I think he could be good in a few years once he puts some weight on and learns to be more physical.

bigbang2 is right about CU not recruiting enough speed in the past.

His expectations for speed at certain positions are way overstated, but it is a major emphasis in our recruiting to get faster.
