Kasa to TE?

there was talk in camp of him playing tightend.

Honestly, Meyer was right from the start, he should have been a tackle. Could have been the next Nate solder.

Good move if he indeed does go to TE. It's too bad we didn't move him there this year and use his redshirt. Next year we're going to need him to play probably, can't afford to redshirt him unless he's really raw.

Kasa could solve a lot of our depth chart issues at TE in 2012. Big target who can run. He'll have all spring to develop techniques and learn plays. Then, he'll have all summer for 7ons with the offense before camp. I hope he makes the transition. He's not a playmaker on defense. There's a chance he could be one on offense.

It'd be great cred to the coaching staff if they could transform a fairly run of the mill D lineman into an NFL prospect as a TE. Would it not?

this post bums me out. He was a 5 star recruit, a can't miss prospect, why do we keep striking out with these studs.

Kasa should never have been rated that highly as a d-line prospect we arent striking out. We got him because we agreed to let him play where he wanted to, even if that spot was not a fit for his talent or body type.

OTOH, maybe we finally have a coaching staff that knows how to evaluate talent and how best to use it.

Cool I guess. But whoTF is gonna play DL next year. We better stock up on 3-4 Juco's

Lol at our DL depth, if you can call it that. Bonsu, Parker, Pericak, Richter, and Uzo are now our only returning DL. As of now I don't think we can expect much from Richter and Bonsu seems to be really slowed by his knee. We're f'ed. Only taking two DL last class looks like a big mistake, esp with Nembot moving to OL

does it matter, we are going to be pretty bad next year too. Lets get some young guys in there and get some experience.

Yay rebuild some more. And yes it does matter, I'd like to actually look somewhat respectable next year

Good move, he's doing nothing at DE.

As for next year's d-line. You'll have pericak, bonsu and duribe, after that who knows.

Next year although we'll be young will be much better with a much more favorable schedule. Saying that, we really need some JuCo players to provide an immediate impact.

On one hand I like the move if this will give him a chance to make an impact.

On the other hand, this is just one more indicator of how far away we are from being competitive. And frustrating that he's wasted almost two full years trying to play a position that apparently doesn't suit him well. Even more frustrating that it's one more 5 star recruit who didn't pan out.

here is a sobering list. I used scout.com for the rankings, but I'm not sure there would be anything different on rivals. Of all the players on that list on Ryan Miller is closest to playing up to his HS rankings.

2006

5 star = NONE
4 star = NONE

2007

5 star = Ryan Miller
4 star = Markques Simas, PT Gates, Drew Hudgins

2008

5 star = Darrell Scott, Lynn Katoa
4 star = Jon Major, Bryce Givens, Shaun Mohler

2009

5 star = Nick Kasa
4 star = NONE

2010

5 star = NONE
4 star = Paul Richardson

2011

5 star = NONE
4 star = Paulay Asiasta

I think it'll be better, but not sure how much better. Bowl game? Not so sure. Depends a lot on Wood. If he lives up the hype next year, we could end up in a bowl game. If he's barely an upgrade over Hansen, then we're kinda ****ed.

Biggest improvement I see is the OOC. We should roll into conference play 3-0, 2-1 at worst and we can win four games the rest of the year, especially since we'll have more home games and we could win all but one or two at home next year. Of course, as you said, it depends on how Wood or Hirshman or Dillon do.

who is our other OOC game? and I'm not sure we can beat Fresno in their house.

When I watched him this fall it stood out like a sore thumb and I posted it here. I have never seen the press or Rivals/Scout mention it before. He's tall, fast and athletic. I asked "can he catch"? We have been sorely needing TE's for this offense (really, really important position) and Kasa frankly doesn't have the explosion or lower body strength (and perhaps he's too tall) to be a really good DL guy.

Frankly, I wonder why it took so long. I think the staff was trying to win games in 2011 and Kasa wasn't going to make a switch in the fall and be a big help in 2011 at TE. Now they are playing for the next 3 years. Kasa has 2 chances at the NFL and the easiest would be to prove he can play Tight End. The second chance is to gain an enormous amount of muscle and play tackle, and I think it's too late for that. I'll assume he in fact, can catch.

Alex Lewis is also going to play TE it looks like. I'm not sure if that's because we are so hurting there or if he's good at it. Haven't seen enough yet to judge.

Nembot's move to tackle and perhaps the development of some young guys on the OL makes that possible.

We are in for another tough year in 2012 independent of how good Wood is. We are building for 2013 and beyond imo, and I think that is the only strategy that works in a turn-around. Except for hiring a really big name coach like Nick Saban.

Not excited for PRich? Played well early on before injury...I'd count him as a successful 4 star. Too early on Pauly too. Offensive linemen should rarely play as true freshmen.

don't know how I missed P-rich, he is amazing. I think I left him out of my mind because we didn't get him to commit to us.
