Is it too much to ask for the Buffs to be competitive on Friday?

We should have Speedy and PRich back, so the offense should be somewhat decent. Defense is uh, pretty awful still. Robert Woods could go for 300 yards receiving.

By competitive, are we asking for a decent game (within a couple TDs) into the 2nd half? I would certainly hope so.

I have a good feeling about this game since it's a blackout game. I don't think we'll win but I think we'll surprise and keep it close.

we will have our starting CBs for the season (not counting the guys who were injured prior to the season's start) back from injury/suspension. Our offense (which Prich and Speedy were.. just compare before and after) is back.

If we are gonna make something of this season, it needs to start here. If we get embarrassed again, I don't think we win another game. Sigh.

We Have A Chance

First off, the night game atmosphere in Boulder is something special. I remember the last two night games I've been to (Georgia and West Virginia) were both pretty special. The team steps it up for these nationally televised games. Having Speedy and P Rich back will be huge. I've always hated in Hansen, but i don't feel like Hirschman will be able to stay composed in the spotlight.

Theres no doubt Woods will have a big game. We should put Henderson on him and have the freshman follow him all over the field all night long, with safety help over the top from Polk. Secondly, we need to bring pressure in order to frustrate Barkley. If we drop 7 or 8 Barkley will have the time to pick us apart all night. I would bring Webb and another linebacker on a blitz often, because we all know he cant drop into coverage.

Were gonna need a balanced passing and running attack, and we need to pick Barkley once or twice
We might have a chance

Unfortunately, I don't see us keeping it close. P-Rich will be primed for a big game, but I'm not sure Hansen will have much time to find him. I expect USC's D-line to dominate against our O-line. I also don't see our DBs being able to contain Robert Woods or Marqise Lee (both of whom went to high school with P-Rich at Gardena Serra). From the few minutes of the Stanford vs. USC game I saw, USC looked good.

On the other hand, Lane Kiffin is their coach so maybe we have a chance.

I'll hope for the same thing I've hoped for the last 5?!? games. That we'll b remotely competitive into the 4th. I hope the blackout game helps, but I'm expecting it's well out of hand by halftime.

With some key players back the offense may show a bit better than the last couple of weeks but this season I think we overestimate the Buffs is we think they are going to be competitive against a team that came within a few seconds of beating Stanford last week.

Personally I've had to take some of the passion out of being a Buff fan this season and take a more analytical approach. The Buffs will be a very tough out and a standout program again but we are going to have to take our lumps this season and maybe a bit longer.

A competitive 1st quarter would be a welcome change.

We are going to get rolled. Even with Speedy and PRich our offense is marginal. The defense, forget it, we don't play defense.

sorry, I wish, but we will be out of the game by the end of the first qtr again... usc knows how bad we are and are going to pile on the points as fast as possible, rest their starters and work on experience for the youth - that is what strong programs do! we are so done and our reputation is out there now in our new conference

We're gonna get murdered. I honestly don't see a scenario that has us competitive in this game. USC is too fast, too big, too good. We have no running game, and Hansen/Hirschman doesn't have time to get the ball to PRich, even if he's back. Our defense is non-existant.

As hard as it is for me to say this, the strength of this team right now is Special Teams. Solid kicker, solid punter, decent if unspectacular return game.

I see a lot of "quit" in the upperclassmen who should be leading this team. I expect them to roll over without a lot of effort. The exception there would be Speedy who will bring it as much as possible. I also like Richardson a lot. The rest seem to be happy to be there. I am frustrated and shocked at the lack of pride and passion as I know Embree and staff are as well. The culture change is painful and difficult but it is handled a lot more quickly when you have a group of Seniors that cares. I just don't see that from my perch well outside the lockeroom and a long way from Boulder. That said, I don't know what's going on with these guys. I hate to judge them but they do have a responsibility to attempt to set a foundation for the future. I just don't see them doing this. I would gladly eat my words if they come out on fire and play with passion for 4 quarters on Saturday. I think this attitude started at Toledo last year. It just doesn't mean enough to these guys.

Toledo was 2 years ago.

And I totally agree with your take on this - it seems the kids just don't care. How did our DL go from respectable to absolutely atrocious in the span of one year? It's not like the DL has had a ton of injuries like everywhere else. Obi was supposed to be this unstoppable force. He's been freaking invisible all year long. The DL is getting pushed around, and that's why our defense is so terrible. Those guys weren't that bad last year. Something is going on.

I think we get killed in this game, but it's far from our best chance to avoid the in-conference ofer.

In a word, "Buler".

The O and the D have disappeared. I would lay money on the Buffs losing out - but I don't think anyone would want the other end of the bet.

i think the team finds its heart this friday.

i'm sure the Buffs will keep usc within 35.

Competitive - no way. I'm not in the locker room, but it seems as though Embree has made it an us vs. them on his own team. This catastrophe of a season cannot end soon enough.

The D Line played well in the first 2 or 3 games this year. Plenty of sacks and qb pressures. Since then they've been AWOL.

Disagree with this. I hate where we are as far as season record, talent and all that but, there is far to much time between seasons to be wishing this one was over. Even though I know the outcome will not be what I want I can not wait to get to the next game and cheer on the Buffs.

I appreciate your superfanness, but I can think of better things to do than get kicked in the nuts every Saturday. Havent seen much to make me think it will be getting better anytime soon.

Because when WRs and RBs are playing DB that's a great indicator. Also, what team in the country has played a stretch like we have?

No reason NOT TO. You get stewart and p-rich back and you're at home.Time for excuses need to end. go out and compete and only lose by 2 scores. Score 30+ points. But quit with the secondary is injured excuses. FORNT 7, STOP THE RUN, GET PRESSURE.

OL , block someone.

Anyone who's watched the season would be dumb to say we'll be competitive. It doesn't make sense. That said, this game is the best chance we have for a crazy surprise. USC coming off their "superbowl" loss, short week, we're at home, get our two best players back (hopefully they are not gimpy) our history of playing the best football against solid teams during blackouts . . .

I watch the games in hopes that I will be shocked and surprised at how well we might do, and this game will be no different....
