Cornerback recruiting

Okay looks like we have one good or decent corner on the roster. Maybe two if Harrington can make strides during spring ball. I am tired of the coaching staff coverting WR, RB, Safeties to corners. I don't want to see Parker Orms or any other RB or WR play corner next year. I am tired of all the experiments. We need corners that can run not slow players trying to keep up with the Robert Woods, Lee of the world. Whats the latest on recruiting, who do we have visiting.

bangyourheadagainstthewall - we're converting players due to injuries. I agree we need to recruit some corners hard, but your post is completely ignorant of the facts. Oh, yeah, Hirschman still going to be an awesome starter for us next year?

Then he and the staff better recruit hard. Remember, this staff are much better recruiters than hawk and his gang, so the talent level should be seen pretty soon. Problem is, you keep losing, are the players you're bringing in the guys they wanted or what they had to take?

Considering they had more than a dozen commits before the season even started, I'd say they are getting the guys they wanted. Good talent infusion coming in from Texas and California and we're only halfway through a class.

We also should keep in mind that Jared Bell was considered our best corner before getting hurt and he will be back as a soph along with some other young guys who got hurt before the season even started.

With that in mind we still need to make a major upgrade in the talent of our DBs. The PAC arguably is the best conference in college football for QBs and WRs and that isn't likely to change anytime soon. To compete in the league we will not only need to have quality DBs on the field but guys behind them developing to be ready to step in.

Correct, but even Bell was a questionable performer during spring ball. Greg Henderson is our best corner, even if Bell is back healthy.

We know this now but at the time Henderson was an unheralded recruit.

Bottom line is we need a lot more at the position and sooner than later.

In addition we also need to step it up at safety. The safety position has been somewhat overlooked with the disaster at CB but also needs attention. Perkins will be graduating. Polk who I think is improving by the week when he is healthy will be a senior. Terrell Smith will be a jr. but I don't see him as better than a situational player in a good defense. Some of the freshman will likely end up at safety but again for this league I don't see any standouts.

Washington looks like he has some potential at safety, but I'm actually more concerned about safety going forward than corner. Bell, Henderson and Harrington are all very young and while we definitely need to recruit more corners, these guys are BCS level players. After Polk leaves, is there anyone with the potential to be a BCS level safety on the roster besides Washington?

Polk is not exaclty a great safety. But he does have one more year of eligibility. Washington should be able to take over, am not worried about the safety position. The big problem is Corner. The only guy i like is Greg Henderson. Not afan of Bell or any other corner on the squad.

stop...just stop.

I am not worried about anything. Take away a few minor miscues from the youngsters and we could easily be ranked in the top 100 in the FBS.

Did anyone see when nobody lined up against USC receiver #9. I thought the coach was going to have a heart attack, yelling at his players to cover. At one point Smith came over to cover, but even he was confused as to why no one was covering. Thankfully, Barkley didn't see the opportunity, he was too busy taking advantage of our guys that were being "covered."

So Washington is going to play both safety spots?

That happened twice, both in the first half. The first time, they left somebody complete uncovered for the entire play. The lone receiver to Barkley's left. Luckily for us, the play called for him to roll a little bit to his right. He never saw that guy running up the hashmarks completely unseen. I told the person next to me that Barkley sucked, turns out maybe I was wrong.

Then later on that quarter, we almost did it again, but 41 came over and matched up against him.

Next year

Polk(sR), Washington(SO)

backups- Will Harlos(RFR), Terrell Smith(JR), Mananea(FR), Marquez(SO), Ewing(SR), Orms(JR)

The year after that

Starters- Will Harlos(SO), Washington(JR)
Backups- Mananea(RFR), Terrell Smith(SR), Orms(SR), Marquez(JR)

Safety looks loaded. We probably don't need to recruit anyone for a couple of years at least given that kind of depth.

We should probably be looking at moving some of those guys to offense so they don't get buried in all that depth.

Bulk a few up to play LB, fill the special teams, maybe one can learn to kick off.

GB is way ahead of you, Ewing has already been switched to LB. Luckily, we have Marquez to fill in for him. It feels so good to be absolutely loaded.

I appreciate you listing every safety on the roster. That would have taken too long to do by myself.
