'12 CO OT Joey O'Connor (Signed to Ohio State)

Are there any head coaches in CO that are pro CU? Thanks a ton Squints!

Fairview definitely is with our new staff. So is Cherry Creek. Unfortunately, neither has a BCS prospect this year.

That is part of the issue. Lots of the coaches in Colorado loved Mac. After that it all went downhill.

Slick Rick turned a lot of them off, acting like they were inconsequential to him. He thought he could get all the players he needed out of California and Texas so he ignored the CO coaches.

Barnett tried to rebuild some of the relationships but Gary could be a little rough and distant. When the "scandal" went down, Gary cut back on a lot of the recruting development work that kept those relations strong.

Hawk was a disaster in CO. He had a few programs that he focused on but the majority got little but BS from him. A lot of the coaches saw him for the fraud he was and tuned him out.

I have heard that the new staff has worked hard on rebuilding relations with the CO HS coaches but it will take time.

Another big issue for CU is the fact that the school doesn't offer PE or coaching majors. In a lot of other states a significant number of the HS coaches are products of the flagship university and have a strong bond. In Colorado very few of the HS coaches have strong CU ties. Most either come from the smaller schools (Adams State, UNC, Mesa, etc.) or from out of state. I would guess that there are as many Fusker grads on HS staffs in Colorado as there are CU grads.

With what I know about Embree and his staff I believe that they will do whatever is needed to build strong relations with the CO HS coaches but it will take time. The coaches who have D1 players this year may really feel like they have been ignored in the past years and now that they have somebody they are getting attention. It will take some time to overcome this resentment.

We totally whiffed on the top three OL prospects in the state. O-fer. Nada.

And Thurston was a CU lean. That didn't mean much, did it? Facts are facts - we've whiffed on the top three OL recruits in the state.
Yeah we whiffed on in-state recruits but a scholarship for the team that just won the MNC looks very attractive and NU, as much as we hate them, is a very attractive football destination. O'Connor though on the other hand was never, never, never ever going to come to CU.

I don't see how anyone could resist the chance to be there when JoePa actually retires.
You do understand he only gets one redshirt year, right? He is not likely to see Joe Pa retire unless he delays his enrollment about 8 years...then again, I don't think JoePa will leave any way other than feet first.

fify

JoePa has built up enough support that they aren't going to fire him and he isn't going to quit. On the other hand he wouldn't be a bad name to have on your death list.

No matter who replaces him I don't see success. It will be like Bear Bryant, everything will be compared not to JoePa but to the image of JoePa. I also don't see any of his assistants being in a position to replace him and anyone else won't be him. Not good all the way around.

Bull ****.

In terms of football it is even if Lincoln is a ****hole.

Not really. Nebraska draws talent, but they've never been an elite recruiting school. When CU is going well, we pull in higher ranked classes. Our ceiling is higher, but our basement is lower due to their Top 5 all-time football tradition.

Also, it was CU's success in the early 1990s that caused Osborne and Nebraska to place a greater emphasis on recruiting. They started trying to get more speed instead of trying to just out-train and out-coach everyone.

In terms of facilities, tradition, and fan support though it's pretty attractive. Not saying that CU's not attractive though so don't get me wrong on that.

Let me clarify. I believe that he died a few years ago and is a science project for the engineering college. At some point, the body will deteriorate enough that they'll have to retire it, and my post assumes that happens within the next 5 years.

Hopefully Embree can find some equal caliber players out of state. This one isn't surprising, but very frustrating. We need some good news on the recruiting front.

Uh, I sure hope the coaches are trying to flip him in light of the news

One would think. I read something (I think on Rivals) where O'Connor came out saying that he loves Penn State, doesn't care how this shakes out, and it wouldn't matter if Paterno was back next year.

that whole staff might be gone. we'll see

I've been to Happy Valley. I...umm...why would anyone love Penn St.?

I thought you were going to say something different after that first sentence.

If Paterno goes today like planned...Greg Schiano from Rutgers will probably get hired and keep most of Paterno's recruits

Second-largest stadium in college football, rabid student support and B1G tradition. Much less relevant lately than USC or Ohio State have been but I see plenty of assets for the football program that would make a recruit want to stick with his commitment. Any game with Ohio or Michigan is going to get a nationwide broadcast. If they purge the tainted elements within the administration I'd be cool sending my kid there still.

Guys - take it to another thread, im deleting your posts. We've had to clean the RECRUIT's thread up all day

No longer a Penn State commit.
