Adam says we offered him and the AZ Central confirms. Great size for a PG and he seems to be getting some decent praise already. ESPN says he has a 4.2 GPA and is hearing from Stanford, UTEP, Arizona, New Mexico State and Boston College, so it looks like it's a good thing we got in early on him. Hopefully he can improve his jumper and sign with us. Love that we're going after bigger PG's too.

Apparently his cousin is PF Torren Jones who is a top 100 player in the 2013 class as well. I say we just sign them both.

Great read on him from HoopsReport.com too. They're really high on him as it sounds like he's done pretty well in various showcases.

In my 19 years of being in this business, I really can’t remember when the last time that the state of Arizona had a “TRUE (PG)” Hopkins size (6’4), with Hopkins athletic ability, ball handling ability, quickness, speed, high basketball I.Q. & a 4.0 GPA.

Averaged about 14/6/6/3 as a soph. Had a really good tourney at the Cream of the Crop tourney where we offered.

Plays defense, rebounds, dishes, and can post up small guards. As Nugget said, he needs to keep working on his jumper so he can force defenses to extend. Once he develops that outside game, he'll pretty much have it all. I'm very excited about this prospect.

Possibly our top guard target for 2013 right now.

I LOVE the versatility that big PG's give us too. It allows us to go after the tweener guys who can light it up but might be a defensive liability when paired with a shorter PG.

Scout is reporting he'll be here on October 14th for an unofficial visit.

Thanks, baller.

Hopkins just looks like a Boyle player to me on those highlights. Exactly the type of game our system features.

He makes some real slick passes in that video, I'll definitely be interested in seeing how this kid develops...

Really excited about the two kids from Basha. I'd love to land them both. Depending on what our scholarship situation is...

I'd love to be able to pick up two kids in 2013, hopefully we manage to regain those schollies in ways that don't adversely effect the program too much
If the Mayor has taught us anything though, its the importance of tapping into those ties that make recruiting alot easier. Starting off by gunning for the slightly worse (though from what I can see and read a real talented kid) and then hoping to swing the cousin who's top 100? I'm ok with that strategy.

Speaking of the cousin Goose, do you have any postable info on that kid? (i.e. offers, things of that nature)

Hopkins is currently ranked as the #1 kid in the state (although he does not have a national ranking but will very soon). He is a national sleeper kid according to this article ( http://hot100hoops.com/index.php?op...oticed&catid=1167:all-hoop-articles&Itemid=96 ) also see ( (http://hot100hoops.com/index.php?op...ormers&catid=1167:all-hoop-articles&Itemid=96 ).

He currently holds more offers than any other junior in the state of arizona. Espn updated his rating to a 91 which makes him the highest rated player in Arizona. They also have Hopkins ranked as the #1 player in the state (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/b...ankings/_/state/arizona/class/2013/view/state )

You can also check out his very own ballislife video at: http://www.ballislife.com/64-jaron-...3-pg-gunnin-for-the-1-spot-on-the-west-coast/ or a youtube video of him at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai76p8KOggE .

So according to recuiting anaylst in arizona he would not be considered the "slightly worse" kid. As he is currently the top kid. So if that is the stategy of "The Mayor" and I were that kid, I would not be considering going to Colorado if the plan is only to snag the supposedly better kid - the cousin.

Definitely didn´t mean to rag on the kid by saying his cousin was better, I just saw an article that said his cousin was garnering more attention than he was, clearly that information could have been older especially considering that both hot100hoops.com as well as ESPN have him listed as the #1 in the state. I guess thats my bad for not doing my homework. I did watch the ballislife video and liked alot of what I saw.

That being said, the idea of a potential top 100 PF is still very enticing to me given the large question marks we have with our front court. I wasn´t trying to say that recruiting either of these two should be mutually exclusive, The exact opposite actually, I´m interested in both. I was more pointing out that one recruit can lead to another and bringing in people that have good chemistry is never a bad thing, and you´d certainly have to assume that the cousins have chemistry. The Mayor is a nickname here for our freshman PG, Spencer Dinwiddie who came in and, I´m sure most of us believe, really helped us pick up a friend of his, 4 star recruit Xavier Johnson. His other buddy 4 star point guard Tyrone Wallace had us in his last 2 before picking UCLA. Also look at the (easily) top two kids out of Colorado Josh Scott and Wesley Gordon, they´re both friends/cross school rivals that signed within like a week of each other. Just pointing out, ties help. Definitely will be keepin an eye on this kid though.

Thank you for the links though, always nice to be able to learn more about any player, regardless of how good his cousin is .

Jaron is one of the most underrated players in the country BY FAR! one season with compton magic and his rankings shot up! should be a top 100 player by his senior year. Very talented and now has a CONSISTENT jump shot added to his arsenal, and dunks on anyone in his way. Very talented!

and dont forget Colorado has had many recruits from Compton magic over the last couple of years!

Both 'Ski & Cain were from the Compton Magic.

I really like this kid. I'm a huge PG fan anyway, but he might be #1 on my wishlist right now.

Adam with a great story on my #1 target for 2013.

"Colorado's facilities are really nice," Hopkins said. "The bond that the players and coaches have at Colorado also really stood out to me. I was in the coaches' offices a lot and I thought it was great how they communicated; they talked to them about pretty much everything. … I see Colorado is winning games this year and everyone is contributing."

The article is worth it if for no other reason than to see the eye popping numbers the kid is putting up.

Man, it's only January and you're really getting my hopes up here, Goose! Hopkins and Jones both seem to be absolutely perfect fits for this team. 2013 could be an absolutely huge year: The Mayor, Ski, Hopkins, and Talton in the backcourt, Johnson and Jenkins on the wing, with Scott, Jones and Gordon doing the damage inside. And if they can keep Roberson around as the senior leader that holds the whole thing together? That's a team that could make a serious run!

I'll have a YouTube video breaking down Hopkins a little bit coming later today. I'll post the link on here.

My friend's 4 year old daughter can make movies with an iPhone. So I'm interpreting "third grade skills" to be better than anything Steven Spielberg ever did.

And the video just finished processing...of course I realize that I spelled his name "Hopins" on the opening slide. I should win an Oscar for incompetence.

Hey man, a recruit thread is not the place for you to brag about your l33t video skills. :smile2:
