48,111 vs 16,811

Bohn needs to tell them to suck it. No more games in denver. No more games vs csu period.

only a 31,300 person difference in support for Colorado today instead of csu

16,811 dressed up as empty seats? I wonder if they actually had 10,000 in the stadium.

CSU has close to the lowest athletic and football budget in the MWC, even that is subsidised at close to 50% out of university funds. They don't get on national TV, they don't even get on local TV that most people can watch (not even shown on the MTN for the 75 people who actually watch that channel.) This isn't a new phenominon. Their average announced attendance has been dropping every year for the past 5 years. Even in the glory days of Sonny when they were ranked in the top 25 and considered the best team not in a major conference they didn't average 30,000, this with some of the lowest ticket prices in D1.

I really wonder if in a time of falling funding for universities and tuition prices rising to a point that prices a lot of families out of the ability to send their kids to school, isn't it time for CSU to take a serious look at moving down to FCS football. They could save millions of dollars and loads of embarrassment and likely be truly competitive at that level. I think it just makes sense in light of their decades of failure and disinterest sprinkled with minor bursts of relative success greeted by more relative dissinterest.

no reason CU needs to be playing them in Denver- none

I'd be ok playing them in Boulder. Since Talkins is gone I don't see many times CU will lose to the lambs if played in Folsom.

Should only be in Boulder, and then only at terms similar to if CU were bringing in another lower end non-AQ team. As much as they don't want to believe it CSU just is not a legitimate BCS level athletic program.

Looking in on sheepnation and even their core fans are saying that actual attendance at the game was closer to 10k, lots of paid no-shows. Probably didn't even have a traffic jam on that 2 lane access road that leads to the parking lots at the stadium.

Also they are all in agreement that Fairchild must be fired. The discussion is if they can do it because the AD doesn't have the money to pay him off and pay another coach coming in. With Boise losing today that probably means no share from a BCS bowl game meaning they lose another big chunk of money they were counting on to pay for a coaching change.

They have also turned on Thomas saying he reacts to slow to be a D1 QB, pissed because they pulled the RS on the freshman backup with only a couple of games left in a lost season.

Does that mean Urban won't be coming to Fort Fun?

I'm shocked I tell you. Shocked!!

end the series. they aren't worthy of the spotlight or payday. we elevate them by giving them undue attention. the series is the ultimate proof of that.

without a game against CU, they are nothing. why help them?

Where we're you guys when CSU was avg over 27,000 coming into this game? College football in this state is an embarrassment all the way around. I miss the days growing up in Iowa where on any given Saturday you could catch a game at Iowa with 75,000+ or at Iowa State with 45,000+ or Northern Iowa with 15,000+ on the same weekend. Instead we have to pretend that anyone gives two sh!ts about college athletics in this state with one state university acting like it belongs with the big boys and the other state university acting like it doesnt belong in FCS. There is a reason both of our programs have fallen off the map and it goes well being coaching.

Still averaging over 50k per game. And no, don't drag us into the cesspit with CSU. We are at an all time low, yes, but CSU is just back to their average. And we STILL outdraw you by 30k.

Actually I have been impressed with CU fans. The Stadium has been pretty close to full consistently after 6 years of sucking. CU has an underated fan base.

The casual CU fans are long gone imo. The folks we have now are here for the long haul

Tough break for Pete Thomas. CC, seems as if you are becoming more and more iowegan with each dismal season.

Let me know if you will be at the tcu/csu tilt in ft worth next weekend. I'll be one of the few in the stands of amon carter cheering on your hapless program.

50k is a big pile of avg. by big time BCS program standards. Hell, Iowa State put 51+ in the house for Kansas last week, a program many out here view as a total joke. The only joke out here is what many fans (CSU and CU alike) play off as big time college football.

It's pretty high as a % of stadium capacity. Depends on how you look at it.

I'd be disappointed if we expand Folsom to 65k and averaged 50k. But averaging 50k in a 54k stadium during a terrible season at the end of a bad run while in a new conference that doesn't travel as well... not so bad.

In the glorious past century of CSU football how often did they average 27,000 or more a game for a season. CU is at the tail end of one of it's worst runs in history and averaging over 50k with no crowds under 40k, this with ticket prices roughly double those in Ft. Collins. CSU has seen consistent declines in attendance over the past few years to the point that it is now a joke.

Yes Colorado in general isn't a big college football state but CU has consistently shown strong support, the AFA who's students for the most part come from everywhere but Colorado and end up everywhere but Colorado consistently draws 35-40k, CSU-Pueblo which has a 10k stadium is consistently filling it. This is in a state that belongs to the Broncos with their 76,000 each game. The weak link, I'd say it's in Ft. Collins based on the numbers.

I would agree that in terms of success on the field CU's problems have a lot to do with a poor decision on who to hire as coach, hopefully and it appears that that situation may be resolved and better days are ahead. On the other hand CSU may have coaching issues but it also has the lowest athletic budget in a second rate conference, close to the lowest football budget (don't know exactly where CSU falls this year but based on past history would be pretty secure in saying it is in the bottom 2-3) pathetic attendance that is getting worse, no TV exposure, etc. etc.

Don't get me wrong, I did grad school at CSU and would like to see that program do well. Unfortunately I see a program that doesn't have the support from it's fans or it's administration to ever change the problems that keep it at or near the bottom of BCS level football. All I ever hear is "We don't get TV money.", "We don't get a share of BCS bowl money." etc. etc. Never taking responsibility for the real problem with the program which is that not enough people care enough to make it relavent.

The more I look, the more I truly think it is time for CSU to take a solid look at FCS where they could truly compete on an even basis instead of trying to pretend that they are a "big time" school.

It's not actually. CU has a good average. CSU shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence with CU as far as fan suppurt is concerned. Have you seen our away games this year? Hell we turned half of Stanford stadium into black and gold.

You are tearing down CU to try and make it like both programs are on the same level in order to make yourself feel better about where your program is at. That is not true. CU sells out 90+% of their stadium on average. It isn't a huge stadium by any means, but it is decent. It is what it is. CU isn't a bama or LSU. However, that doesn't mean they are at CSU's level either. Your program is horrific. Sorry.

The State of Colorado is certainly not a college football crazy state, but you can't compare us to Iowa/Nebraska etc which have no NFL teams. The Broncos have been so popular for so long that it clearly affects the potential fanbase. Look at Illinois, they have the Bears in Chicago with a similar cult-like following as the Broncos, but Illinois (55k), Northwestern (36k), Northern Illinois (18k), Western Illinois (11k), and Southern Illinois (10k) aren't exactly breaking attendance marks and that state is much more populated than Colorado is. Minnesota is comparable population-wise and they only have one D-I school at all (not just FBS but FCS also) and they only draw in the upper 40k range.

With that said, CSU clearly is not the #2 team in the state.

Air Force draws 40k on average to their home games.

CSU (at best) draws in the low 20's
UNC averages around 5 or 6k
CSU-Pueblo 8-10k
none of the other RMAC schools pass 2,500.

I'm pretty sure there were at least 8,000 at the CSU-Pueblo D2 game against a far weaker opponent (Western NM), so that is really sad that CSU could only double them for a game against San Diego State. Their numbers will jump with their final home games against Air Force and Wyoming, but it won't be because the Ram fans started to pack the stadium all of a sudden.

Pretty much following Iowa more and more. Just went to the Iowa-Michigan game at Kinnick a couple of weekends ago. Incredible. Get to Kinnick if you ever have a chance. Won't be heading to Texas. I suspect we will see a coaching change once TCU finishes off any mathematical chance at a bowl game.

If our stadium was the size of CSU's, we would have like a 30 year sellout streak

Guess the new paved parking lot, trees, and sidewalk didn't get the lamb fan base fired up to attend games.

That is my one fear for CSU-Pueblo, is to lose HC Wristen to CSU-Fort Collins. I wouldn't begrudge him if he left, and I would hope he could be successful in turning the Rams around (at least to be an above average MWC team), but I'm sure he would take a lot of his staff with him and we would be scrambling to hold onto the momentum he built.

Now that Urban's out of the picture - any rumors on who CSU is targeting for their new coach?

No one is really rumored. Any knowledgeable fan knows that Meyer won't be anywhere near Fort Collins and no one outside of a couple of complete morons on the Ram board have suggested it.

If I had my choice I hope they go after a guy like Hugh Freeze from Arkansas State. I personally like Rob Ash from Montana State. The guy has won everywhere he has been, including Drake which is nothing short of miracle.
