Barnett was much better at getting the maximum output out of lesser talent at both CU and NW.

Texas can eat a taint-flavored lollipop.

    honestly? no idea.

GB's last years were so tainted with the "scandal" crap and hawk has only been here 3 years and the first class of his was a patch work job.

from my corner, i would say.... lets see what hawk does this year. he has built up some good talent.

one thing about GB. he took a lot of RN's recruits and kept/made them good players. think of 2001. he didnt ruin the guys and that does happen a lot with new coaches.

honestly, im not sure a fair comparison can ever be made with GB and other coaches at CU. the limits that were placed on him were beyond stupid. he had no chance.

i will agree with rino. you dont win at a place like NW without being a damn good coach.

Dude took Northwestern to the Rose Bowl and CU to the Fiesta Bowl. Hard to say a coach who pulls that off is a fraud.

He had his issues and he wasn't the world's best recruiter, but he wasn't a fraud. Not by a longshot. He had a hell of a lot more success at CU than Hawk has had so far. 49-39 record at CU and 2 losing seasons in 7 years.

I really like Hawk and think he's going to end up being really good for CU, but he's gotta produce results on the field.

Hawk's problems were cuz Barnett did nothing his last couple years recruiting wise. He left a couple good athletes but otherwise the cupboard was empty

yes. and that was because of the friggin stupid limitations placed upon GB and his staff during the last couple of years at CU.

you cant leave that out of the equation. it matters.

Agreed. There wasn't much left when Hawk took over. But that only underscores the point, IMO. There wasn't much here when Barnett was around, either. Yet he managed to go 8-5 and 7-5 in his last 2 seasons.

Hey Buffarino, how was the luncheon I think Hawk is a good man and a man of integrity. I wouldn't want anyone else to be the coach of the Buffs. Now with that said let's see some results. Mac seems to like him and with my limited knowledge Hawk reminds me a lot of Mac. Go Buffs

    That might be true.

But he still did a helluva job at Northwestern and you can't take that away from him. NW was one of the losingest programs in all of college football. It still holds the record of consecutive losses at 34. Only two coaches have ever taken NW to the Rose Bowl and GB was one of them. Their 1996 trip to Pasadena was the first bowl game for NW since 1949. He left NW in the best shape it had been in since the 1930s.

GB was an excellent position coach and coordinator for McCartney while he was at CU.

I don't know where GB went wrong while he was at CU. The Buffs looked a lot stronger and a lot more consistant under Barnett then the did under Neuheisel. GB was one Craig Ochs int from getting into the MNc game in '01 and he gave us our last BCS appearance. Somewhere he got off or fell off and then was run over by the recruiting bus. I think Tharp made things a little too cushy for GB. If the recruiting scandal had not gotten out I think Bohn would not been hired and GB would probably still be here after turning around a couple of bad classes.

That was the first indication that the big 10 wasn't what it seemed. And it was a down year in the big 10. And Northwestern had a favorable schedule.

He won the Big 10 with North-freaking-western two years in a row. He took CU to the Big 12 CCG 4 out of his last 5 years.

I'm not saying he's the world's best coach. But I think he gets more out of less than most coaches do, especially Hawk and his staff.

Hopefully Hawk won't have to worry about getting more with less starting next year since he won't have less in the talent dept.

Barnett had his chance. He ran the team into the ground. End of story really. It's Hawks time to prove himself. If he doesn't he'll find himself in the same spot Barnett is.

...oh wait. Barnett still hasn't found a job yet. I'm pretty sure Hawkins will be a HC at another program.

I'm very glad Barnett is not the coach now.
