The University of Colorado gains a commitment from Chatfield High School's Kyle Slavin.Slavin is a tight end prospect with solid size. He has good height and should be able to add more good bulk to his frame with time in a college weight program. He is not a kid that will blow you away with his ability as a receiver or blocker, but he displays the ability to do both well and contribute to an offense. He is a solid receiver who will flash the ability to extend his arms and go up and get the ball. He does though tend to catch the ball into his body. Does a solid job of using his frame to shield defenders from the ball. He runs solid routes. Does not display great speed to stretch the field, but can be a target in the short-to-intermediate passing game. He can be a solid receiving target, but his best upside may be as a blocker. He has some experience as an in-line blocker and needs to keep developing his technique, but with his size and some work he could be a productive blocker in the run game. From an in-line position does a good job of getting hand placement and when he gets locked on he can be tough to beat. You would like to see him deliver more of an initial pop and generate more power from his lower body. Shows some tenaciousness as a blocker, but needs to get his hips under him and pound his feet to help him stay with his man. Does a solid job in space of getting hands on his man. When the play breaks down he stays active and looks for the big hit. Slavin is a kid who could have good size, help move the chains by catching some passes, and be a productive blocker. He may not be a kid that wow's fans, but can be a solid player that can help an offense.

Chatfield TE Gets His Offer
Last edited by AlferdJasper; 06-21-2009 at 05:47 PM.
He has an offer and committed, right? He is a one star TE, is there something the regular fan doesn't know about this kid? Don't get me wrong, happy to have a Colorado kid on board. Just wondering.![]()
These one and two starred Colorado kids who live and breathe Buff Football tend to work out for us. I don't know if it's their proximity that permits the staff to better evaluate their talent, or if they're ultra-dedicated because it's their lifelong dream to wear Black and Gold with Silver trim.
Whatever the reason, I love those guys. Welcome to our newest Buff commit!!!

To increase stars, a player needs to be offered by schools outside of Colorado.
Wait as long as possible to commit, the fewer players left in a position who are weighing competing offers, the more desirable they seem.
Need to be seen and perform well at multiple camps, showing well against other players with more stars.
Obviously the measurables and stats help, but those above are all factors.
Jasper- I don't think I can edit my thread title.
I like this pick-up. He obviously has the size, and the fact that the coaches saw him in person and offered is a plus.
Congrats Kyle for going Buff! The staff at C.U. MUST think your a stud.GO BUFFS!
Awesome! welcome to the family.
What I really like is that he was wanting an offer from CU. He knew that CU was wanting to verify on his blocking skills and such. He apparently worked hard by adding muscle and busting his but getting better with the things CU coaching staff wanted from him. That says a lot about, He wanted to get an offer from CU and was willing to do what it took to get it. Now that he has gotten the offer I am really excited to see how he pans out with his continuing work ethic (whether it drops or not--doubt it though) and how his senior season goes.
GO HAWK!!!!!
GO BUFFS!!!!!!
Scout says he has an offer from Syracuse.
Yes he does, but he committed to the Buffs after yesterday's camp. The coaches told him they wanted to see him camp, and they offered.
Since Colorado was always his number one (according to his bio), it was apparently an easy jump for Slavin to say Yes to the offer.
I think buf190 was just pointing out the other interest. Wonder how Syracuse got sold on him? BTW, they have another common offer in OH TE Schneider.

Since he is a Chatfield kid, he is probably pretty damn smart.
Anyway, looks like a solid get and will be one of the two TEs we end up signing.
