So quantity is all that matters? Because that is essentially what you're saying when you get all bent out of shape being behind KSU and ISU right now (who actually are ranked behind us right now because a good majority of their recruits are currently unrated). I can absolutely guarantee you we will finish far ahead of them when it matters in February. I have no doubt about that.
The coaches would be blasted either way. Either they have too few recruits or they're taking guys that are not good enough.
We actually are off to a pretty good start. You could argue our first four recruits are the best first four recruits of any Hawk class to date. A few wins and the bigger names will give us the official visits. I'm not saying we're destined for a top 10 class, but I think we can land top 25 with some wins.

August 10th Update:
Maryland QB Billy Cosh verbal to KSU. Rated 2*, 3*, 3*. Dad's an assistant coordinator at KSU, so not a big surprise.
August 11th Update:
Florida WR Kadron Boone verbal to Texas Tech. Rated 4*, 3*, 4*. Huge pickup for TTU.
Kansas ATH Justin McCay verbal to Oklahoma. Rated 4*, 5*, 4*. Great OLB or WR.
surprises:
Tejass with only 1 5* recruit (lots of 4's, tho)
kjsu with only 4 juco's (huh????)
August 12th Update:
Louisiana CB Urell Johnson commits to Texas Tech. Very good size/speed combo athlete that CU had offered. Decommitted from Southern Miss fairly recently.
August 13th Update:
Texas LB Shaun Lewis verbals to Oklahoma State. Rated 4*, 4*, 4*. Widely considered one of the top 20 outside linebacker prospects in the nation.
August 14th Update:
Texas DL Dominique Henderson (NR, 3*, 2*) gave his verbal to Baylor. CU was in the running and may have been his #2 among programs that offered.
Missouri OL Nick Demien (4*, 4*, 4*) decided to stay home and verbaled to Mizzou. I'm not sure how in the running CU was for him (we had offered). This really strengthens Mizzou's class.

OUr class is going to suck until the kids out there start seeing some W's. 2009 is critical with a Nat'l venue of several games that will be televised nationally and in several of these kids living rooms. Hawk needs to show them and the rest of the CFB world that CU is on the up and up. BUT, that will only happen, and I know I am stating the obvious, when he puts some good W's on the board. At this stage of the game all we can do (at least that's how I am dealing with it) is to be patient and see what transpires at the season progresses. The wins and losses will speak volumes about Hawk and his leadership of this program, and the success of CU football in the near future.
win 8+ games and we're a team on the rise with a lot of young talent....and the 4* guys will take a look. we land a good class, #15-25.
win 6 games and we've got another #35-45 class and an uncertain future for the staff (which will also hurt recruiting).
August 17th update:
TX DT Diamonte Wheeler (NR, 3*, 3*) committed to Okie State. They now have 17 verbals for 2010.
August 19th Update:
Oklahoma State landed two new recruits. Top DT out of Tulsa, OK Calvin Barnett (4*, 4*, 4*) and sleeper DB out of Derby, KS Devin Hedgepeth (3*, NR, 2*).
Texas can eat a taint-flavored lollipop.
