Rivals is reporting that Griffon will be visiting next weekend (January 15th). The coaching change at Memphis made him want to look around. We're probably in very good shape on this one.
Here's his player page (with video) from his high school: http://www.gobluedarters.com/apopka-...-roster/18.php
Here's part of the Scout evaluation they did after he committed to Memphis:
What to Like: Henley Griffin is a big pass-catching threat playing in an Apopka offense that loves to run the football. They only throw it about seven times a game on average so it's hard for him to really get involved in the passing game. Griffin has ideal size at 6-5 and over 200 pounds. He runs around really well and looks like a natural pass-catcher when the ball's thrown his direction. He has hands and knows how to go and get the football when it's in the air. When utilized in the passing game, Griffin makes things happen.
Can you explain to me how a 6-5, 230# TE with a 4.4 40 is not ranked? I don't know much about recruiting but I don't understand how a kid with those basic stats could fly under the radar. I'm probably missing something.
Here's hoping we get him. TE is a need this year.
4.4 40. Huh....wow if true , but I'm guessing not.
Sorry about the confusion on the 40 time. He's not a 4.4 guy. He's got average TE speed (probably around 4.8). He went under the radar because his HS didn't throw much, there wasn't a lot of film, he didn't make the camp circuit, and he looks real skinny in the film and photos that are available. I'd expect him to redshirt and potentially develop into a fantastic player as he fills out that frame of his.
I definitely wasn't disparaging your reporting. I really appreciate you taking the time you do to bring these guys to our attention. Average TE speed with that frame still sounds pretty good. Based on his size and that description, he sounds similar to Daniel Graham. It'd be really nice to have a TE like him in the system again.
Thanks Buffnik.
I am glad we have three TEs in the fold now, but one of those commits needed to be a JUCO. Odd recruiting numbers.
Why does this say soft verbal to Memphis - Rivals says he's a Buff!
We thought about it for a long time, "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union. - Lone Watie, The Outlaw Josey Wales
Welcome to the Buffs, Mr. Griffon!

Welcome to the BnG, Mr. Griffon! You and thornton along with the other prospects make for very tall athletic targets for our young QBs.
Awesome news. Welcome aboard Mr. Griffon. This is a very nice get.
with a run first team, he has to be a good blocker...very important point for a TE that is often overlooked...nice pick up, and welcome to the BUFF family...GO BUFFS!!!!!
Hee's the Rivals commitment article:
Apopka (Fla.) High head coach Rick Darlington said he has never coached a player that catches the ball as well as Henley Griffon.
But because Apopka features a run-oriented offense, Griffon did not draw much recruiting interest from colleges until late during his senior season.
Tight ends coach Kent Riddle was responsible for his recruitment from the Buffaloes' staff.
"Colorado knows I am a good all-around tight end and they know I am a good kid that is not going to get into trouble," Griffon said. "I am a good fit for Colorado and Colorado is a good fit for me."

We've got some more video too (mostly of Henley blocking):

Also, Apopka is a football powerhouse. Henley probably needs some time to develop, but he won't be intimidated and he'll be accustomed to big boy football. They're a 6a program that wins its District just about every year and has a FL state championship this decade. It's where Warren Sapp went to high school.
