    ***Buffs Class of 2010***

We're going to have a separate "Official NSD Discussion Thread" that everyone can post in. But this one will be locked so that it only gets posts by Mods & Admins when there is confirmation that a prospect has sent a Letter of Intent into CU. This way, anyone who just pops in every hour or three from work can quickly check what's going on without having to sift through dozens of posts in the discussion thread.

    Josh Moten
    QB/WR/DB
    Narbonne High School
    Harbor City, CA

Class of 2009 - Late Qualifier

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: 2*

The 6'0" 177 lb quarterback was an early verbal commitment to Washington for the 2009 cycle but ultimately chose Colorado. Unable to enroll for the Fall semester, Moten has since qualified and is enrolled for the Spring semester. While promised an opportunity to try out at Quarterback, Moten has stated that he will play wherever he can help the team. An excellent athlete, Moten has superlative quickness and runs a 4.6 forty. It is expected that Moten will end up playing Wide Receiver for the Buffaloes if he stays on offense. However, his ultimate home may be on the defensive side of the football as a Cornerback (his father, Sherman, was a Strong Safety at Arizona State).

    Eric Richter
    OG/OC
    Saddleback Community College
    Mission Viejo, CA

Class of 2010 - Early Enroller

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: NR

Standing 6'4" and weighing in at 315 lbs, Richter gives the Buffs some much-needed bulk in the middle of its offensive line. Richter is an avid weight lifter who bench presses 530 pounds. He is expected to compete for either the starting LG or C position in 2010. Richter chose Colorado over an offer from Arizona State and turned away heavy interest from Tennessee and Auburn after he had given his pledge to Colorado. Richter, while not expected to redshirt for the Buffs, did not redshirt while attending Saddleback and will have 3 years to play 2 at CU.

    Nick Hirschman
    QB
    Los Gatos High School
    Los Gatos, CA

Class of 2010 - Early Enroller

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 3*

The 6'3" 216 lb quarterback broke all of the significant passing records that were formerly held by Trent Edwards, the Buffalo Bills QB who starred for Stanford. Known as a hard worker, Hirschman trained with noted QB coach Bob Johnson (father of NFLer Rob Johnson) this past spring to shed weight, improve footwork, get quicker and simply get faster at everything he did. It paid off. Hirschman led Los Gatos to its 2nd straight CIF-CCS championship this past season while completing 68.4% of his passes (154/225) for 2,887 yards (12.8 ypa) with 34 touchdowns against only 3 interceptions. He was named the CCS Player of the Year. Hirschman also excels in the classroom, drawing an offer from Harvard to play football. Oregon State and Arizona, among others, attempted to sway Hirschman late in the process, but he did not return their interest and enrolled at Colorado for the Winter/Spring semester.

    Tony Jones
    RB
    Don Bosco Prep School
    Ramsey, NJ

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 2*

The Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of New Jersey for 2009, Tony Jones led Don Bosco Prep to an undefeated season and the number one ranking in the country. Jones rushed 174 times for 1,387 yards (7.97 per carry) and 34 TDs, caught 13 passes for 226 yards and a TD and returned a kickoff for a TD -- despite sitting out half of six games that were blowout victories. In the seven games in which he rushed for fewer than 150 yards, Don Bosco won by a combined score of 351-35, including a season-opening, 30-6 victory over California powerhouse De La Salle. Because of similar size and running styles, the 5’7” 180 lb Jones has been compared to former Rutgers great and current NFLer Ray Rice. Jones had early scholarship offers from Michigan and Boston College.

    Trea Jones
    RB
    Wake Forest-Rolesville High School
    Wake Forest, NC

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: NR

A North-South runner with some shiftiness and a 2nd gear when he hits daylingt, Trea (pronounced “Tray”) Jones measures in at 5’11” 187 lb with a 4.53 second forty. Jones earned Cap-7 Conference Player of the Year this season while leading his team to the 4-A Regional Finals. Rushed for 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns in 14 games before breaking his ankle in the Regional Semifinal game. While still re-habbing, Jones escaped the injury without suffering ligament damage and is off crutches and on schedule to be 100% by spring. In track, Jones clocked a 10.9 second 100 meter as a sophomore. Colorado was Jones’ only reported offer, but Notre Dame, Clemson, North Carolina and North Carolina State were all in touch and recruiting him until the injury.

    Keenan Canty
    WR
    Edna Karr High School
    New Orleans, LA

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 2*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: 2*

Canty is a smaller receiver with excellent quickness, body control and leaping ability… but what really stands out is his hands. Canty catches everything thrown near him. Only about 5’9” tall and around 170 lbs, Canty projects as a slot wide receiver for the Buffs. As a senior in High School, Canty accounted for 630 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns while earning 1st Team All-District in New Orleans. He also brings considerable skill as a kickoff and punt returner. Canty plans to run track this spring, focusing on improving his speed and explosiveness by training and competing in the 200 meter, 4x100 meter relay and triple jump. It has been reported that Canty has already improved his forty time from a 4.74 he ran at a New Orleans event last spring and is now running in the 4.5 range.

    Justin Castor
    K
    Arvada West High School
    Arvada, CO

Class of 2009 - Late Qualifier

    Rivals: 2*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: 2*

Castor is a big kicker with an big leg. Standing 6’5” and weighing in at 175 lbs, Castor was booming field goals from as far as 62 yards at the CU camp last summer. An accomplished Punter, Castor averaged about 43 yards per punt this past season. Blessed with more than just an explosive leg, Castor is a tremendous athlete who was Arvada West’s top Wide Receiver, hauling in 30 catches for 607 yards (20.2 avg) to go along with 7 touchdowns. Finally, Castor is an excellent student, sporting a 3.8 GPA. Castor chose Colorado over offers from Kansas and Arizona State.

    Lowell Williams
    LB/DE
    Fort Bend Marshall High School
    Missouri City, TX

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 3*

Standing 6’3” tall and weighing in at 210 lbs, Williams is an opposing presence, but it’s his 4.6 speed and exceptional agility that set him apart. Williams could play either Inside or Outside Linebacker for Colorado and may even line up at Defensive End at times. This Scout report from the Baylor Camp last summer pretty much says it all: “Hands down the best player in the linebacker group is Lowell Williams from Marshall. He is about 6'3 or 6'4, weighs over 200 and speed, speed, speed. No one could block him when he worked out with the defensive ends, the linemen often times gave up after their second step because he was gone past them.” Williams had about 50 tackles to go with 8 sacs and 4 forced fumbles during his senior campaign. He chose the Buffs over in-state offers from Rice and UTEP.

    Kyle Slavin
    TE
    Chatfield High School
    Littleton, CO

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 2*

At 6’5” and 250 lbs, Slavin will come to Boulder ready to compete for playing time. A lifelong Buff fan, Slavin demonstrated elite hands at the CU camp this summer. More importantly, he took the coaching advice to heart, gained considerable good weight for his senior campaign, and developed his skills as a blocker (difficult to do since his team runs a spread offense). While Slavin’s senior year stats suffered due to Chatfield’s QB being lost to injury early in the season, he still earned All State honors as a Tight End. Demonstrating his versatility, Slavin was also named All Colorado as a Defensive End. Slavin chose CU over an offer from Syracuse and a late attempt by Tennessee that was made after its coaching change.

    Jered Bell
    CB
    Colony High School
    Ontario, CA

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 2*

A big cornerback at 6'1" 185 lb, Bell sacrifices nothing in the speed department with a reported 4.45 forty. Bell also runs track, with a junior year best of 14.8 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles. As a senior football player, Bell earned 1st Team All-CIF while recording 50 tackles and 5 interceptions despite opponents avoiding him. Buff coaches see him as being in the same mold as Jimmy Smith and Deji Olatoye - tall, long and fast with a love for man-to-man coverage. Bell chose Colorado over CSU, where he had also taken an Official Visit.

    Chidera Uzo-Diribe
    DE/OLB
    Corona Senior High School
    Corona, CA

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 3*

A rare athlete, Uzo-Diribe excelled as a basketball player before switching to fooball in 2008 for his junior season. Standing 6’3” and weighing 220 lbs, Uzo-Diribe played only 1 game as a Junior… and recorded 12 tackles. He then wowed the CU coaches at the Buffs’ contact camp this summer. As a Senior, he made 70 tackles while notching 7 sacks to earn a spot in the Inland Empire All-Star Team. Uzo-Diribe’s speed (4.7 forty) and acceleration with his length are what separate him as a pass rushing prospect. Uzo-Diribe will be making a commitment to the weight room for the first time this winter in hopes of being able to contribute immediately for the Buffs in 2010. He chose Colorado during the season and then turned down invitations for January official visits to Arizona and Oregon State.

    Alex Lewis
    OT
    Mountain Pointe High School
    Phoenix, AZ

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 3*
    Scout: 3*
    ESPN: 1*

A late developer, Lewis grew 6 inches after his Sophomore year and another 2 inches after his Junior year... he now stands 6’6”. Working on filling out his frame with good weight, Lewis is now up to about 255 lbs and bench pressing 275 lbs. Lewis was coached by his father, who played OL for Nebraska and 10 years in the NFL. An All-City, All-Region and All-State performer as a Senior, Lewis is expected to Grayshirt for Colorado to give himself extra time to mature into his frame. Lewis chose the Buffs over offers from UNLV and Air Force.

    Justin Torres
    RB/FB/LB
    La Mirada High School
    La Mirada, CA

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 2*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: NR

This late-developing prospect went from a 5’11” 190 lb guy no one had heard of as a Junior to a 6’1” 230lb star as a senior. Torres was the CIF Co-Offensive Player of the Year and the Suburban League MVP this past season as he ran for 827 yards and 16 touchdowns, had 318 receiving yards to go with 2 more touchdowns… and recorded 79 tackles as a linebacker. His La Mirada team, coached by former Buff great Mike Moschetti, won the CIF Southern Section Championship. Colorado is rumored to like Torres most as an inside linebacker, where his athleticism and 4.66 speed would shine, but he could play runningback. The Buffs were the only program to offer Torres, though he did draw late interest from UCLA, Nebraska and Illinois, among others.

    Henley Griffon
    TE
    Apopka High School
    Apopka, FL

    Class of 2010

    Rivals: 2*
    Scout: 2*
    ESPN: NR

The 6'5" 217 lb Tight End is from 6A Powerhouse Apopka, the Florida High School that produced Warren Sapp. Primarily used as a blocker due to an offense that only throws about 7 times a game, Griffon was still able to excel in the passing game, causing his coach to rave that he’s got the best hands of any player he’s ever had. With a reported forty time of 4.7, Griffon has good speed for a TE. While Griffon is expected to redshirt as he gains mass and becomes more comfortable in a passing offense, his athleticism and skill may dictate that he plays as a true freshman. Colorado landed Griffon after he de-committed from Memphis and over a late push by Tennessee.
