Rivals article: Remember the name Shane Callahan

Last summer, Chaparral head coach John Vogt referred to Brendon Austin as "the next Jack Harris". And last month, he called Shane Callahan "the next Brendon Austin".

"Shane is kind of a mauler," said Vogt.

Added Callahan: "I am a good pass blocker because I have a lot of length. … I am a pretty athletic guy for my size. I play basketball, too, so that helps a lot."

"I have actually been up to CU a lot," he said. "I have attended some of their games and practices. I really like it up there. I love [offensive line] coach [Denver] Johnson there at CU. He is just a real good guy and it seems like their offensive line has a bright future.

    Scout: Introducing Shane Callahan

The 6-6 285 pound junior to be has a big frame and mauling style that will catch the attention of DI programs.

Q- Who is the best player you ever played against?

A- "Freshmen year I was invited to the Nike Camp in Boulder and competed against some of the best upper classmen in the western region."

Q- How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

A- "I believe coach Dobbs would call me a leader, smart, strong, and able to get nasty. He has told me that I am very coachable and respectful."

Q- Who is your favorite pro athlete and why?

A- "Ryan Clady." [Clady played at Boise State under Dan Hawkins. Might help, assuming Hawk's still our coach for 2012.]

CU is first up with an offer for Callahan after he had a tremendous showing at CU's Friday Night Lights Elite Camp.

Looks like our biggest competition is going to come from Notre Dame on this one. We need a good season if we want Callahan to help lead us into the Pac 12.

Callahan was at a practice this week and seemed really into it. His parents were there and nice folks. All seem really interested in the Buffs.

Wow, this kid looks like another great prospect. Hawkins has put together a bitchin hog farm. Looks like Solder and Miller are sure thing pro's, with quite a few good space eaters coming up. Hopefully Callahan will be next.

He made Scout's initial top 100 watch list for 2012. Looks like he is going to be a national recruit.

4* initial rating. He's going to be one of the Top 10 OLs in the west, imo.

When several people call him a better prospect than Jack Harris, you know Callahan has big time potential. Must get for the next coaching staff.

Rumored to be on another unofficial to CU for the Georgia game. He's on campus a lot.

Shane's a beast and a good kid. Anything Voght or Dobbs say about a player is true. Dobbs is one of the best people I've had the pleasure to have as a teacher. Hope we land him.

FWIW, I'll be at the Chaparral/Mullen playoff game Friday night.

Should be a good game - Chaparral has the best chance of any Colorado team of giving Mullen some challenge this year.
