Here's what ESPN had to say (link in profile):

Haley has an impressive frame with broad shoulders and long arms, but he is a major project. He plays with passion, runs hard, and he has decent hands, but he struggles converting in the paint area. He is very mechanical when posting up and doesn't possess the savvy or athleticism to score in traffic most of the time. However, he does have a nice touch out to the elbow and could be productive in a pick and roll and a pick and pop set. Haley does have some intangibles (length and heart) that coaches look for in a big, but he'll need a redshirt year to get stronger and to hone his offensive game.

According to Rivals, CU is likely to get a visit from Haley:

He plans on taking advantage of his official visits this year before committing.

"I haven't scheduled any quite yet, but I'm about in the process of doing that. I'm definitely going to head back to Iowa State, and also to Pacific, Penn and Colorado probably."

    - and he's a very good student -

The 6-foot-11 center in the class of 2010 is trying to improve on the court this fall and also maintain or improve on his 3.8 GPA.

"Academics are very important to me, I'm looking at getting into aerospace engineering so I'm really taking a look at the schools that have strong engineering departments," Haley said. "I realize that there is going to be a time where basketball eventually ends, and I want to be ready for that."

Gotta think the aerospace program here would give a big advantage over those others. I can't imagine doing aerospace and playing a varsity sport. That will be a lot of work for the kid.

I agree with both of those points. We have a great aero program here but it will chew you up and spit you out if you aren't ready. I know some people who have managed it with some very demanding extracurriculars though and done just fine. If he's as smart and motivated as his grades suggest then I'm sure he'll be able to hack it.

This is also a case where coach Buzz is a big advantage. He has already shown in his time here that while he takes basketball very seriously he also take the academic end of things very seriously as well. We have a number of guys on the team that while not doing aerospace, are doing some difficult majors and doing well in them. Buzz is also highly experienced with dealing with kids excelling in tough majors from his time at the academy.

For the kid, CU not only has the advantage of one of the very top aerospace programs in the country but also a coach and program that will support him in succeeding in it if he is willing to do the work.

seems like a pretty good kid. I think we are really going to see what type of recruiter that Bz is and that will go a long way in determining if we are going to extend him for more seasons. If he can build on last season, recruit at least 2 really good bigs (only one JUCO) and get an NCAA invite then we should extend him, if not then we let him walk IMO.

I have very reliable information that we are already working on extending him and personally, I think it's the right decision. I won't crap all over a recruiting thread with my reasons for it but I think that Bzdelik will get the guys we need to fill our positions of need and we'll see the payoff next season in the form of a very high NIT seed if not as a tourney berth.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing the Scoop.

Based on the ESPN description, I thought he sounded like a good fit for our system. Good rebounder, hustles and has a reliable jumper out to mid-range. Bzdelik will develop a guy like that.

I'm guessing he was an early verbal to VCU?
    Going Sinker...
"So tell me Ryan, how did you know he would turn to starboard?" - CDR Bart Mancuso, CO USS Dallas
    "I didn't. I had a 50-50 chance and I needed a break." - Jack Ryan

    February.

In a way, kind of late in the process since the early signing period was months ago.

But also early in the sense that there was plenty of time for a bigger program to swoop in between February and the April 14th beginning of the signing period.
