    Post-Spring Evaluation

After watching the Spring Game and reading the reports, has your opinion about the 2010 Buffs changed?

Yes. I tend to be optimistic, but I now have some solid information to back it up.

There are some GOOD players on the buffs this year.

We have the same coach. Nothing from a spring game is going to change my expectations.

I voted for Krispy Kreme, but really meant Steak 'n Shake.

I like the wr's and sipili as well as thornton. Other than that, the qb situation is still a mess, running game is non-existant and the same guy is in charge. Ilook forward to seeing it on the field. Csu is starting 5 new OL and 3 DL and they lost wr's greer and morton. If hawk and cu can't beat this csu team, they might as well punt.

The problem with the poll is that what one "expected" is a variable.

How is that a problem? This is simply asking if people are feeling better or worse about the Buffs while removing that variable.

If you want to go deeper into the question, people can respond to this post:

On the following scale, where were you prior to the spring practices and where are you now:

0 - Thank God that Drake isn't on the 2010 schedule
1 - Thank God that Montana State isn't on the 2010 schedule
2 - Thank God that Toledo isn't on the 2010 schedule
3 - Thank God that West Virginia isn't on the 2010 schedule
4 - Thank God that Texas isn't on the 2010 schedule
    5 - DBT is a pessimist

There are lots of potential bright spots: O-line; D-line; receivers; DBs; young, talented LBs. And, you can win with mediocre, but error-free, quarterbacking. The things that scare me are the lack of depth at RB and pathetic kicking game. I continue to believe that the Buffs would have been a .500 team during the Hawk era if they had had slightly better than average FG kicking, punting and punt returning. While you can hope that Tyler or Cody (perish the thought) will do a workmanlike job this season and keep the offense moving, I don't see the basis for hope in the kicking game.

Lot of holes on this team in terms of depth and I'm not impressed with Hansen's improvement.. I thought he would easily be the starting QB by a wide margin.. I question our speed on defense too.. And the running game is a frickin joke. I am impressed with the WR tandem but they need a QB to get them the ball and an OL to block.. Are we consistent enough at those positions to fully utilize those WR? I'm not so sure.

So, I think more of the same from the Talkins regime.. I laid out a 8-4 type scenario at the end of last year for this team but now I'm lowering it down to a 6-6 season.. Even that record might be tough to get too..

IMO, the special teams play is going to have to step it up. At the spring game I observed better offensive execution and fewer penilties. But the corners got burned by both QB's that in itself might also be because of the WR's improvement. Other than a few FG attempts, I'm sorry to say, that because there was really no other special teams play demonstrated at the spring game that they have a long way to go. The DL and LBs were OK

    I voted slightly worse.

I thought Hansen's passes would look much better. He was very inaccurate on most of his throws. Also, I was not impressed with Quick, who I'd heard was tearing things up. The secondary getting burned wasn't good either.

On the plus side, Cefalo looked great, but I don't want to pin my hopes on a guy of his size.

I have been thinking 5-7 for a while and now I am thinking 4-8. The QB situation, offensive line, and the special teams still concern me.
