St. Frances is a big time program in Baltimore. Be nice to get a pipeline going.

Lewis would be a huge recruiting win for the program.

I think he may have been at the LeBron Nike camp where Cory and Alec were counselors this summer. Rep to anyone who can find that out one way or the other.

    ...you sure Cory was there?

    Greg Lewis was: http://inside.nikebasketball.com/new...ron-roster.pdf

Alec was, but I'm not sure if Higgins was there.

You're right. Cory was at the other one that they went to together.

Hopefully Alec and Gregory struck up a friendship.

    Rep delivered.

Gary isnt very good at keeping Maryland kids in-state, a couple that come to mind are Michael Beasley that went to KSU and Kevin Durant that went to Texas. Both came from just outside of Maryland's Campus, they just had to go a couple stops down the metro line to end up at these guys front door, and Gary still failed at landing them. Say what you want, but I dont think Gary is very good at landing the big time recruits, he tends to put together cast offs from UNC and Duke, then formulate them into pretty good teams.

I would say that CU has a decent chance at landing this kid if it came between MD and CU. I dont think that he is too keen on staying close to home with the different schools on that list, and if he did make some kind of personal connection with Burks or Higgins, I would say we have a leg up on the competition. And maybe with a big recruit like that coming, Alec would consider staying for another year with the excitement of a new conference and the possibilty of being able to be the top of that new conference.

There isn't really an "in state" for Marylanders. The metro area is so small you really bring in eastern PA, DC, VA, WV and just a little further Carolina. Think of the schools (UMD, GTown, Nova, Temple, WVU, UVA, VaTech, NC State, UNC, Duke) all are within 4 hours or so of each other. I hope the Buffs land him, but I'd be shocked if a Bal'mer kid came west. It would certainly be a change in scenery for him.

I agree. Also while Williams does not routinely get the great recruits, I think he is still a great recruiter. He gets a decent amount of good recruits...

I hope that Boyle is as good as Bz in evaluating talent, because we need good evaluating and coaching to build the program before a great recruit is going to come here. What's that? What about RP? Well...say what you, and I know I'm beating a dead horse, but RP was a decent recruiter...just not htat great otherwise with spacing schollies, Xs and Os...

I wouldnt say that around someone who grew up in MD, PA or VA, there is a big difference. That whole Civil War thing really annoyed a lot of people.

Growing up in Maryland, on the river across form Virginia, I would say there is a lot more In-State pride then there is in Colorado. And areas like Baltimore are way more intense about the whole Maryland thing too.

is he still growing? 6-9 is a bit short for center.

6'9" is plenty big for a college center. As long as he's got long arms and a wide butt, there's no issue with a guy that height playing the '5'.

I didn't mean to imply that their wasn't in state pride, just that kids in Maryland tend to go to college all over the region whether it be the "basketball" schools I mentioned or other smaller schools in the region. Folks aren't nuts about UMD

P.S. I am a native Marylander, growing up in Talbot County on the Shore, and have a degree from UMD as well as dear ole CU. I know for a fact that there is no life west of the bay and I'm sorry you had to grow up there.

I liked it alot up where I grew up, Fredneck. It was simular to boulder without all the hippies. I also got my undergrad at CU and masters at UMD. Grew up a UMD fan, and in many ways I still am. I tend to go back for a few games a year as I still have season tickets with my dad.

Not that I want to start talking about UMD basketball much here, but I think that is one of Gary's biggest problems is that he has this complex that players will come to him, and he doesnt need to secure all the local kids. Those big time Maryland recruits choose to leave MD because they were never recruited hard by Gary. Terrence Morris is from my hometown, and when he decided to go to UMD it wasnt much because Gary sout him out, it was more that he wanted to stay close (to his baby momma), and still play big time basketball. It was so bad, Terrence almost had to call UMD to get them to come see him play. Now that is sad. The story for Juan Dixon is also simular.

I will say that Gary is a absolute great coach in taking mediocure talent (Juan Dixon, Greivis Vasquez) and turning them into great players. And not just great college players, but build up skills that allow them to play at the next level. I really think that if those guys came and played for a coach like Riccardo Patton, they would be ok college players, then you would never hear about them again (Richard Roby anyone?)
