    Cal Pre-Game Options

I think it's about time we got a real thread going on this. It's like three days till kick off and I haven't sorted out what my party of about 20 will be doing. I posted on bearinsider for advice. Here's the link:

Thanks for posting that. The advice is great.

I'm still not sure what we (me + 26 others) will be doing. We probably would have gone to the alumni party, but since it's sold out I guess we'll get more bang for our $30.

Allsome. I'm thinking Bear's Lair or Raleighs since our hotel is in that area.

Closest bars to the stadium are Henry's and Kip's. Both are on Durant. Kip's is more of a college bar (with a downstairs Chinese/pizza restaurant) while Henry's is a little bit of an older crowd. Kip's usually has the morning games on with a decent atmosphere. Also highly recommend eating on Durant pre-game. House of Curries (Indian), Top Dog (self explanatory, Berkeley institution), Gypsys (Italian), Steve's Korean BBQ, and D.R's (Middle Eastern) are all excellent and cheap. If the Hill had anything like that I probably never would have left Boulder.

Does Steve's Korean BBQ get their dog from Top Dog?

As a public service, I called the Cal ticket office to see if they offer single game parking passes. They don't. The tailgating options are basically non-existant.

We're driving in from Napa. Any suggestions for where to park? We should arrive early (by 9 or so) if that makes life easier....

I'd just park at a BART station and take BART into Berkeley. Berkeley is a mess for driving on gamedays. Richmond is probably your best spot but it is a bit on the seedy side.

Since the stadium is right on campus, there isn't much parking. Plenty of people tailgate but it's either a little ways away, or it's at the bars people have mentioned (unless you're a big donor -- they you tailgate in the lots right next to the stadium). Plus the new training facility and stadium are under construction currently (next year we play our home games in AT&T Park in SF) which cuts down the parking even more.

Henry's is often a good option -- just down the hill from the stadium, and they open up the whole back parking lot and add a bunch of other bars, etc out back. Bear's Lair on Sproul Plaza (on Bancroft is also really fun).

On another note, obviously I'm a Cal fan -- excited to be playing you guys and to have you in the Pac-12 soon. Lots of friends who are alums of CU.

Let me know if I can be of any help for those of you coming out.

Wow, Cal fans are showing lots of class already. But nobody has classier fans than corn. Just ask corn fans. They'll tell you all about it.

Unless you're familiar with Berkeley driving in and parking near the stadium is a pain. Memorial is sandwiched between campus to the west, steep hills without access to the east, residential neighborhoods full of winding narrow roads to the north and a maze of one way / barricaded (to force traffic back on the main arteries) streets to the south. Coming in from Napa you could get off 80/580 and park at any of the stations north of campus and BART to the Downtown Berkeley. North Berkeley or either of the El Cerrito stations would work well. From there it's a $1 shuttle ride directly to the stadium or a 15-20 minute walk up through campus or past all the bars and restaurants on the southside. If you have to drive you can park in a private garage downtown (by the BART station) or pay ~$30-50 and park at a frat or house really close to the stadium. But then getting out after the game will suck. Arriving at 9am you could find legal street parking a bit further away but it helps to know the area.

Umm.. If you're serious about that sort of thing, can I recommend El Rio near 24th or Zeitgeist near 16th? Just wait to put on your Buffs gear until you're in the snake hole...

SF Buff... Have you been to the kilowatt on an NFL sunday? It's my favorite place to watch nfl games in the city. You get lots of people into the games, but it's in the mission so you don't get the douche bag jersey crowd. Plus free hot dogs and cheap beers. It's close to noe valley and certainly better than anything you'd find out that way.

Another thing, have you been to skip's on cortland?
