This kid could be huge. There was a buzz about him when he was in 7-8 grade in Denver, but the word was that he was a huge prick. So, his family had him attend a private school in MD, and after his first year of HS, he is an elite prospect for his class (he did go to Montbello for a year too). Yes, projecting kids that much into the future can be misleading, but still...this could be our next Chauncey. Hopefully he has matured though - Chaunc was/is a great person in addition to being great on the floor.

some of you may remember an article in the Denver Post. I don't remember if I can paste links, so I'll just tell you to google Chris Thomas Denver basketball and the post article should come up.
Colorado was not always on his schools of interest - it now is.

he would be a nice one year rental to have.
The 2013 prospect is expected to be at least a 4* prospect and will likely be a 5*. He grew up in Denver and maintains ties, playing his AAU with the Colorado Hawks traveling team.
He just made a decision to come back to Pac-12 country to complete his prep years, transferring from Washington D.C.'s Princeton Day Academy to Phoenix's Westwind Prep.
All this and the quote below from a new Rivals article.
I've heard that we're a real long shot here and that there may be reasons he doesn't want to come back to the Denver area. Anyone know whether we're in the running on this one?Among the many programs who have showed early interest in Thomas are Arizona, Colorado, Kentucky, Kansas, Memphis, Indiana, Tennessee and Missouri.
going to be hard to beat out 'Zona with him living there.
"Don't argue with an idiot, he'll drag you down to his level and beat you with experience."

it would be fun for us to get a one year rental for once.
that's great that Thomas is back in the West...although I think Phoenix is an odd destination for him.
As for UA, they are making noise recruiting. Their backcourt is slowly living up to the PG U moniker they give themselves. Watch out how they recruit LJ Rose, a top 2012 PG, and Shabazz Muhammed, one of THE 2012 guys. I don't think UA lands Shabazz, and I'm not sure how they sit with Rose. They Nick Johnson this year, and he'll stick around. Bazz will most likely be a one-and-done player, and I think Rose will stay two years.
I doubt UA's filled backcourt will dissuade a top talent like Thomas, particularly because some of them will leave early. However, we can sell playing time.
I've been trying to keep tabs on this kid - I think we do have a profile of him somewhere in the archives. I've been hearing about him since he was in eighth grade, but the rumor was he was a punk with bad influences. Unfortunately, as much as him being from Denver can help CU, it can also hurt CU due to his problems while growing up in Denver (family may want to keep him away??...) It does seem like he's matured a lot since he left town

Found the profile thread. I'll merge the new stuff in and then build in some of the recruiting site info and youtube vids.
PremierBall.com had a great interview with Thomas back in October '10: http://www.premierball.com/questions...-chris-thomas/
Here's a bit of the interview:
1. Chris Where are you originally from and what made you come out to Maryland to play your hoops and go to school?
I’m originally from Denver, CO. I came to Maryland to change my ways and become a better student and a better basketball player. It was hard for me to focus at home so my family and coach sent me to the prep school here in Maryland. I’m glad they did.
9. Will you be playing for the Colorado Hawks AAU team in the spring/summer?
Yes. I’m always happy when I play with the Hawks. They are my friends and the HAWKS is home for me.
10. Give us your the first five college schools that pop in your head.
Arizona, Kentucky, Tennessee, Kansas, Xavier, and Colorado are the first ones I can think of. There are a lot of colleges out there looking at me and I really haven’t narrowed it down to five or even 10. I’m a sophomore so right now I’m just trying to make the grades I need to get into any college……..lol
How the hell did Xavier get in there?
I really wouldn't put alot of stock into the schools he listed - just means they're interested. "Off the top of your head", and he makes it clear that he's only a soph - hasn't narrowed anything down. I don't know how Xavier got in there, but don't sleep on Xavier. They've always been a solid program, and they keep finding quality coaches. If Mack stays as their coach, they can become a serious player down the road. I have always liked Xavier - they're good, but no one seems to think of them for some reason.
I like this discussion on Thomas though - analyzing a quote about schools off the top of your head. I'm used to reading this stuff on in our football forum or Duke bball forums. It shows that CU is making some steps in recruiting - we're going after some bigger players.
Okay, so he visited UA yesterday and absolutely loved it - no surprise. Cats fans think he's a lock for them.
...but that's odd, their head coach is leaving to go to Maryland, where Thomas recently was in school. I think he may be Miller's first big recruit at UMD.
U of A coach staying... may make Thomas' decision easier.
