Gus is also a standout wrestler for Monarch. He had this to say about his football career:
Colorado Prep Report (Rivals Premium)
Sawicki hopes to play college football and named two schools that he has watched since he was younger.
"I've been following Georgia for a while. When I was seven, I lived out there. I have always followed CU too."

Looks like a competitor. What's the ideal FB size for our pro O?
Leach: Do you want to fight a buffalo? I don't know, those buffalo are big. You know, buffalo are significantly bigger than elk. I grew up near Yellowstone so I've been near buffalo. Buffalo are huge. And then the other thing I've always gotten a kick out of: When you play Colorado, there's those buffalo dragging those six handler around. Those handlers aren't dragging the buffalo. The buffalo's dragging him.
I imagine 220 - 230, depending on the height, which should be around 5'11" to 6'1" (just mho!!!) -- easy at that height to drop and get under the pad of the LB at the 2nd level.
Not sure about his frame tho. If he really is around 175, he may not have the bone structure to put on 30+ pounds and still be effective. I'm sure the coaches know way more about this than I do, so if they invite him, I'll trust their judgement.
We should have listened to Colorado fans.
Most wrestlers other than the heavyweights tend to keep any extra weight off that they can, in other words be in pretty lean condition. As a result when they stop wrestling and go stricktly football you can count on an easy +/- 20 lbs fairly quickly and then in another year or so they can bulk up another 10-15 without getting fat or losing athleticism. With his reported weight of 175 that means that by his second year at CU 220 would be very reasonable.
One other thing I have noticed with wrestlers is that they tend to have a combination of strength and flexibility that results in a lot less injuries, especially in the shoulders and neck. Another good characteristic for a fullback or linebacker who is colliding with somebody on almost every play.
Trivia Question related to Mr. Sawicki's high school:Which CU Buff great and NFL player also went to Monarch?Answer here
(Forgot how to do a spoiler tag. Remind me sometime.)
But THIS free SCOUT STORY is good too, if you read down a couple paragraphs, when he's talking about the coolest part of the combine. Fifth paragraph.![]()
Fullback is a great position to target with the walk on program.
I don't mind recruiting a FB to scholarship, but you can find what you need with walk ons.
True about wrestlers, but we're talking about 45 pounds (175-220). That may be done easily by o/d linemen, but may be much more difficult for a naturally smaller player. Who knows - he may be able to do that. I still think it goes back to whether or not his structure can handle that much added weight.
True what you say but the 175 is a junior weight. Even if he wrestles next year it would be likely that he would jump to the 189lb weight class meaning that with the growth allowances they give during the season his wtestling weight at the end of the season would be around 190. 220 is a good target but a solid 215lbs would make him a legit candidate to play fullback in a BCS conference. That would mean that he would be looking at a 25lb gain in 1 1/2 years if he redshirts, not at all out of the real or possibilities.
Gus definitely knows how to block as Monarch runs a double wing with possibly 2 passes per game. Gus runs extremely hard but does get caught from behind, not a huge problem at FB though.
