You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger sports junkie than I am, but this **** is out of whack.

- Texas is #33 in the nation in teacher salaries. Teacher salaries in Texas are not keeping pace with the national average. There are several stadiums over 10k within a few miles of this new one. They are upgrading from 14k to 18k. The whole Plano area north of Dallas is just one giant stadium, sporting complex after another. There are also huge expanses of soccer fields, 25 field softball complexes etc... It's crazy.

Also, the schools in this area have plenty of $$$. The biggest problem in the area was heroin and now some other drugs. The kids have to much money to spend.

The Plano/Allen/McKinney area is just a never-ending suburb. Like a 50 square mile area of cookie cutter houses, grocery stores, schools, and apparently, big-ass stadiums.
Property taxes in the DFW region are nearing 3% of the home's assessed value. Allen doesn't even tax the highest.
How many people would rather pay 4.63% on a state income tax in Colorado versus a 2.9% on property tax?
Texas Home $250K x 2.9% = $7,250
Colo Income $120K x 4.63% = $5,556
Add in Allen's 8.25% sales tax, and it gets uglier.
I had a big client in Frisco, Texas (northern suburb of Dallas) and had to drive through Denton to get to my client's office.
There were some BIG BIG BIG high school stadiums down there!!
They also like to build communities with water parks, palm trees, their own grocery stores -- it is really pretty impressive.

the stretch of 1 35 between through Dallas is terrifying. how many bad, sterile, chain mexican restaurants are there in the world? and why are 80% of them on the same 50 mile stretch of interstate. those big water tower thingies are filled with "queso" in most towns, i've heard.
Colorado football is not a matter of life and death; it's more important than that.
Pretty interesting how important high school football is in that state. Enough to make all other educational and tax aspects of their lives go down dramatically, making the overall economy and education worse off.
