Bill Hempen out as CU Buffs soccer coach

    By Kyle RingoCamera Sports Writer

Colorado women's soccer coach Bill Hempen has coached his final game with the Buffs in Boulder, but it is unclear if he has resigned or been fired after a last place finish in the school's first season in the Pac-12 Conference

Bill Hempen - Women's Soccer Coach Fired

Ringo reporting that he is gone. He did much to get CU's women's soccer program to a competitive level in the time he was here. Perhaps Paul Hogan will be a candidate.

I'm interested in finding out whether this was Hempen's decision or not.

His teams have certainly underperformed the past few years. I respect a lot of what he accomplished at CU, but I think it was time for new direction.

...if Bohn seriously FIRED Hempen, he's an idiot. I was not and am still not a Bohn fan (not that I think he's horrible in everything). CU Women's Soccer owes Hempen a LOT...practically everything. He deserves the last few years of mediocrity to rebuild his team.

...I really hope our AD isn't that moronic and arrogant to fire Hempen, and Bill is just choosing to leave on his own.

Hempen has done a lot for CU Women's Soccer, but this past season was just bad, mediocrity was nowhere in sight. I think it was time for both sides to move on.

The CU women's soccer team went from non-existant to tournament regular in the span of about 6 years. Then went screaming right back to near complete irrelevancy. I'm not sure what Hempen did so right at the beginning and so wrong at the end. Having Nikki Marshall for four years probably had a lot to do with how good they were. Losing her probably had a lot to do with how bad they became.

Starting to hear that Hempen's relationship with club and HS coaches in the state isn't what it should be. That we've got the in-state talent to be one of the better programs but that they prospects won't come to CU.

I don't follow soccer closely enough to know. But I do follow recruiting and can say that recruiting for every single program except soccer is going well.

Right. Colorado has some of the best girls soccer clubs in the nation. Hempen hasn't landed much of that talent in the last few years which I'm assuming hurts recruiting in-state, and out of state. If Bohn were smart, he'd be interviewing the top club coaches at Rush and Real Colorado.

He let Bri Pugh get away...

She scored against the Buffs. Bill got a red card in that game which was one of the more violent games I'd been to. The refs were not calling anything. One of the Buff players let my daughter in the locker room afterwards which she thought was pretty cool.

This was definitely not Hempen's decision. He did a lot for the program but I think its time to move on, I think he lost touch with the players. In college sports you can't just cut the players so if a change needs to be made its always on the coach. I hope we make the right hire.
