I just read the article and felt the exact same way. Well said.
Our favorite writer is at it again. John Henderson, shocker, wrote a negative column about our in state recruiting. The top six in state guys are going elsewhere. But what pisses me off most was the quote by Chaparral head coach John Vogt.
He said,"As a former coach here in Colorado at UNC and as a player here and now as a head coach, to be honest with you, in the five years I've been back from Texas, I'm really disappointed in the in-state effort by these guys. I know Embree's only been here one year, but the previous staff just blew the state off. They were more enamored with Florida and Texas."
Screw you Vogt! First, it's a two way street. Embree has tried hard to get back in state only to be blown off by the top six kids. If HS coaches want CU to recruit their kids, they had better well encourage their kids to strongly consider us! Second, Embree is not the previous regime, so get over it you sanctimonious jerk. Finally, hell yes CU is going to recruit the likes of Texas and you would too, coach Vogt!

Jon offered and was turned down by the top six in-state kids. He offered and.received commitments from 7 & 8. That means he offered scholarships to at least 8 Colorado kids which is about a third of his available scholarships. If these HS coaches want to get some CU love, they had better damned well reciprocate! And one more thing. Don't expect CU to recruit in-state kids just for the sake of it. CU should only be expected to recruit kids good enough to contribute to a BCS level program.
Embree is trying to recruit instate, the problem is that there aren't that many good players, and most of the good ones want to go out of state.
It amazes me how the media treats the #1 university in the state.
Yes, it's true they've missed out on the top kids, especially OL but it wasn't from a lack of trying or snubbing anyone.
The funny thing in all of this is that the denver media could care less about college football in this state but whenever there's nothing to write about, they can always fall back on bashing cu on some trumped up article.
Last I checked, it was fairchild and csu going after the texas and florida kids but you know....
I don't think Voght was taking a shot at CU or Embree but taking a shot at Halk and that their isn't much of a relationship with Colorado high schools.
AllBuffs: Where the stereotype of 'Boulder Elitists' is met and then some
That may very well be true but that is not how it came across in the article. Henderson likely was selective in his wordsmithing to be as negative as possible. But Vogt should have chosen his words more selectively. He used a very broad brush. He owes Embree a phone call IMO. And Embree owes Henderson a call as well.
CU will never have the favored status that some schools have, to many writers from other states and resentment of CU from those who couldn't or didn't think they could get in. A lot of the coaches are guys who wish they could have gone to the flagship university but weren't good enough and still hold that resentment as well.
The combination of Embree building connections to the coaches and community and winning games will be the things that help bring CU back into as positive a light as possible though. There will still always be some resentment of CU and Colorado being a Bronco state will make it easier for those voices to feel okay about spreading their hate for CU.
Tini is the voice of reason. Read the quote again.
Everybody hates you, Everybody wishes that you were dead
Cuz Peter you suck, Peter you suck
Peter your music is ****ing terrible
Peter you suck, Peter you suck
Peter you don't do anything of value, Peter you suck
Write some music but instead you sit and write these bulls**t songs
It's so self loathing go see a psychiatrist
I hate the psychiatrist
Well go see one anyway
I don't like the psychiatrist
You need to go see one
See a psychiatrist
I'm not going
I did read the quote and do not disagree. But Vogt knows damned well that the two former regimes are long gone. He should also know that Embree has gone hard after the top in-state kids, wouldn't you agree? His quote to Henderson, then, IMO, was self serving and not a statement of the facts as they now are. He could just as easily have said,"While there were problems with the previous staffs in-state recruiting, I am encouraged with the effort that Jon Embree has shown thus far."
