O'Brien had a tremendous junior season for Rancho Santa Margarita and played a large role in the school winning a state title. Overall, he finished with 92 tackles and 8 INTs at safety, earning him All-Trinity League and All-Orange County honors. For those that may not know, the Trinity League is arguably the toughest league in California.

“I got my first offer from Colorado,” O’Brien said. “They actually offered me as a linebacker and feel I have the frame to grow in to the position. I talked with Brian Cabral on Sunday and when he told me they were offering, it was such a good feeling.

“This is my first offer and to have it come from Colorado is incredible. Both my dad and my uncle played at Colorado and growing up, I always rooted for the Buffs."

Hopefully this school is the next Upland or Woodson for us!

I'd be happy to land the Rancho 4!
Just stay out of my way... or you'll pay! LISTEN to what I say!

He also had 8 picks as a sophomore.

    In 2011, he made Cali-Hi Sports 2nd Team All-State for underclassmen: http://www.wavenewspapers.com/sports...?m=y&smobile=y

Rancho Santa Margarita is a program we must get in on. They're one of the elites in Cali.

Connor might be the guy to pop first.

Not only is he a legacy, he also plays hockey.

    This has to happen.

Looks like they only had 1 recruit go D1 last year with Max Tuerk going to USC. They had 1 the year before go to ASU.

So there is every opportunity for us to come in and create the new farm system with them.

    Legacy! Come on home!

This is also more evidence as to just how much we're looking to improve our speed on defense, as that continues to be weighed much more heavily than size for recent recruits.

His father was Mike Kenlon. He played MLB in the late 70's and changed his name to O'Brien. The Uncle played DE for CU.

At 6'3", I'd say he certainly has the frame to grow into a stud linebacker.

His dad and uncle (George Kenlon) both starred at Servite High School in Anaheim.

    From O'Brien's coach:

"All the years I've been around athletics," Welch said, "there seem to be certain players who make plays. For whatever reason, these certain players are the players who force the fumbles or make the interception or the great catch. How does that happen?"
