Question for the folks who think we should not pursue Webb... if Wood goes down for 1-2 games this season, who on the current roster gives you confidence that they can effectively lead the team?
Webb and Wood are two totally different things. Wood was a national level prospect at QB, just about every school in the country would have wanted him. Webb is a good but not great prospect, how did he end up the odd man out at a losing program like Kansas.
By your standards we should have 15 QBs on scholly.

I like Wood just as much as the rest of you. But the fact is, he hasn't played a down of football during a game yet. Some of you would reject the opportunity to get Webb who has played live ball in the Big12 (with some pretty respectable numbers as well)? That is just plain stupid! I have no idea what you could be worried about. That is a pussy mentality and not suitable for this program.
If the coaches want to give Webb a scholarship, then I'm all for it. If he wins the job, great. If he wins the #2 job, great. Worst case scenario is that his presence will create more competition!
I have NEVER seen Hirschman do much of anything that would make me confident that he could lead this team to many victories.
My guess is that he comes in and competes right away for the #1 job and at worst will be a great backup to Wood.
Just stay out of my way... or you'll pay! LISTEN to what I say!
Nobody. But now let me turn it around and ask if you would have that confidence in Webb. I wouldn't. I don't think he adds much, frankly. Hirschman may not have shown much, but he at least has played in the system for a full year. He's familiar with the play calls. The offense wouldn't have to be dumbed down for him.

Signing Webb is a reasonable response to the situation Embree found himself in: no upperclassmen QB's, no QB's with any real game experience. I think we all know who's to blame for that situation. I give the current staff credit for trying to help this situation, first by signing Burnette and now by signing Webb. Webb, like Burnette, may not pan out (he seems to have a better resume though), but the risk isn't too high--a scholarship for two years at most--and likely one if it doesn't work out (I mean, it doesn't seem like Webb is transferring so he can get that graduate degree he's been dreaming about--more power to him if he is.)

The coaches seem pretty high on Wood. He was highly thought of coming out of HS. I haven't seen him play but I feel he is a good prospect. I have seen Hirschman. So far not much to consider. He's got a nice arm but needs some work. Schrock, Dorman a true frosh in Dillon? Depth is lacking at QB. I'd hate to pass on a legit D1 QB with game experience. That is what Webb is. He's not a game breaker. But having an upperclassman QB with Webb's experience only makes the team better. Why fight that?
