On paper I agree, but I think it's all going to come down to how well he gells with this team. The buffs have transformed into a tight group (Embree's step one) and Webb will be an outsider who didn't slog through hell the last few years like the rest of the team has. Regardless of hist talent and experience, he's going to have to prove he has a buffalo heart to the team first. If he can, I think there's a 50-50 shot he's starting this fall.

That's a nice theory, but in reality the 2012 Buffs are looking for immediate contributions from a bunch of incoming players - whether they are transfers or true freshmen the Buffs will need them to perform. As long as the coaching staff is convinced a player is putting in the effort and living up to the expectations of being a Buffalo, I expect that any player will see the field that gives them the best chance to win. The days of warm fuzzies and good feelings in the locker room are over. Really good kids that give 125% and have twinkly eyes and firm handshakes are going to ride the pine because their talent level doesn't measure up.
So if Webb shows up and spends all his time getting up to speed with the offense and putting himself in a position to earn the position, (which I would think he would need to do to be a better option that our current QBs), then I would expect Embree to give him the nod even if he is still considered an outsider by some members of the team.
If Webb starts, it means that Wood couldn't beat him out. If Wood, a guy who was able to practice with the team all last year, go through spring drills as the #1 QB, and heads into fall camp as the #1 guy, suddenly gets supplanted by a guy who just showed up, I'm going to jump off a bridge.
Yes, but while Wood was practicing with the scout team, Webb was playing in the Big 12. Webb was not a crappy recruit either. #28 pro style qb by Rivals.com . Its hard for me to imagine beating out a guy who has two full seasons of experience to my zero college games. You can't fake experience. Wood has got to be a little intimidated by this. Unless he really is an astonishing talent, I expect Webb to lead the team.
No I did not expect him to seize the Spring ( I have no idea how someone could even do that) - but the coaches expected him to separate himself from the other candidates especially since he had a majority of the reps. He failed to do that, he had some good moments but he also looked very average at times. I did not say that Embree was going to close off the competition nor did I say anything about a starter being named - but Wood did not do enough to be named the started with or without Dillion coming to Boulder. The coaches are the ones who are disappointed that he did not look more like a 4 star recruit.
BYou wouldnt be intimidated by a player who has started 20 Big 12 games at qb when you haven't played 2 minutes of a college football game? Wood hasn't taken one hit in a game. He hasn't earned his stripes. Webb has actually led a team of men against real opponents for two years. Wood has practiced with the scout team for two years. Wood is looking up at Webb right now. I believe Webb is also two years older.
