Ahles redshirted during the 2007 season and practiced at ILB. During 2008, Ahles continued to practice at ILB while seeing action on special teams in 8 games. In the spring of 2009, he switched to OLB, which in CU's system is often a weakside DE used as a pass rusher. Ahles seems to have found a home at his new position, getting significant playing time and appearing in all 12 games during the 2009 season. During the spring of 2010, Ahles is also practicing as a Fullback (a position he played in high school) for short yardage situations. He is expected to be B.J. Beatty's primary backup at OLB during the 2010 campaign.
