Hansen was expected to redshirt in 2008, but ended up being called upon in relief against Kansas State. After leading the team to victory, Hansen got 2 more starts (a blowout loss at Missouri and a win versus Iowa State). In total, he played in 5 games and ended up 3rd on the team in rushing. As a sophomore in 2009, Hansen was originally slated to redshirt behind Cody Hawkins but after a 1-4 start to the season Hansen was inserted late in the 5th game at Texas then started the rest of the way. For the season, Hansen had a 2-5 record and completed 56% of his passes for 1,440 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Hansen really came on the last 4 games of the season, with 7 TD passes and averaging 242 yards passing per game. Heading into 2010, Hansen is expected to be the starter but is once again in a heated competition with Cody Hawkins for the QB1 role.
